The yellow eye they chose for the Dianoga in the Compactor is really jarring, really missed a trick not using this existing print....

After seeing some reviews on YouTube to see the real new UCS DS thing including the designer interview from SolidBricks, not just some blurry fotos, I'm convinced Lego missed the point not only on the price point and lack of quality of the minifigs (which are obvious), but on the usage of available volume of stuff as well.

The "classic" UCS DS playset had a lot of volume of playing (which was its ultimate purpose) by having different rooms at different sides of the DS sphere. It allowed the set to be compacted in volume without leaving important rooms out. It was easy to move from one place to another and it passed the "usability" test with my children playing with it for years. I wouldn't care to trade half of that UCS DS sphere for additional detail, but...

with the new UCS pizza DS it becomes so evident now how well the "classic" UCS DS designers thought through about it to make a compelling design. Sure that by nowadays standards it is less polished but from a design and playability point of view is way superior on the usage of available volume space.

The pizza DS is too big even for displaying, because being that thin it needs to stack the scenes one on top of another with no exception, increasing the overall perceived surface of the set. It might would be nice if half of the sphere were there, but it isn't. Moving one third of the scenes to that missing half of the sphere would reduce drastically the perceived surface of the set, like the classic DS do, but just with half of the sphere. That compromise would make sense with the level of detail of the rooms, which, on a side note, I like it a lot overall.

The new DS design also places the scenes in somewhat absurd order for the price tag asked to well funded collectors, so it's impossible to reproduce some main scenes, even for display. It doesn't matter if children aren't going to play with it, the set is not for them. It's clear that minifigs and the scenes are important for displaying it. Why would be Lego adding otherwise minifigs to the set then? For example, Luke and Leia cannot jump to scape from some (missing) stormtroopers just by leaving DS conference room. It makes absolutely nonsense for such a premium product that should give exquisite care to the details for that price.

And many other scenes. For instance, the trash compactor heading to the Darth Vader & Obi-Wan climax scene is just foolish, and I prefer to stop here...

Now everyone is complaining but 30 september at midnight,

The fomo empire strikes back !

And everyone will say :

Shut up and take my money :roflmao:

This IS the set we are looking for.

I better go home and rethink my purchase.

Lan members are evil, they get everything for  free!

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

It's too late for me my son. Resistance is futile.

If you only knew the power of the fomo side!

Join me and together we can buy this fully operational  battle slice.

Tie fighter gwp ?! It's a trap !

Yeah, the Imperial Armored Speeder sounds lika a good idea. And this TIE Avenger thingy wouldn't be too awful of an alternative either. :head_back:

Lego had this exact thought before season 2 came out and went "ohhhh of course, we should do a buildable K-2SO!"

Anyway I have to say, at this point the most exciting part about the Death Star is just going to be seeing it in person. I'm not expecting to ever buy it but I am really interested to see just how big it feels in the flesh (or brick, I suppose).

Those definitely-not reskinned WW2 german troop transports they used on Ghorman?

Yeah. Not something I'd ever get, even if I had the money and space, but it'll be cool to check out at a lego store.

Are we believing the rumour of a new UCS Executor? Only source I can see so far is Bruce Swift and idk if he's ever leaked anything before but he presumably has some inside contacts, e.g. with how he was able to get so many of the Kamino GWP.

I haven't heard of the guy but he seems to just be one of the clone army builders in the vein of MandR. I think it's a pretty big leap to think he's a leaker just because he has a lot of the Kamino GWP- he's army building $70 and $150 sets, I don't think it's all that difficult to believe he either bought a ton of sets back in May or has been buying a ton of copies off bricklink/ebay/etc.

Well yeah. Those deserve a set too. Seeing how they are the perfect super Battlepack builds. Just like the patrol speeder from Ferrix is perfect for a normal one.

Ballsack neck!!! You know what sure, Andor needs more sets and I’d be intrigued to see how Lego’d manage this.

That too. But it’s more a Rogue One set.

I’m iffy on it for two reasons.

  1. Unless it’s the May UCS, how come we’re hearing about it more than a year in advance?
  2. The UCS Venator doesn’t retire until December 31st 2026.

Are there any long-standing minifig parts that deserve an update?

I'd like to see Lego take another shot at the Chewbacca mold, something about the current one has always looked a little off to me. Honestly his Solo movie version might still be the best in terms of silhouette.

Plus old Ben Kenobi has been using the same default male hair piece since 1999, it looks almost anachronistic next to the newer Luke, Han, and Leia minifigs. I think Luthen's hair in grey might work for him.

Agree on Chewie. Some ideas:

Zam Wessel (skin color and a new mod for helmet)

Long legs (plus one plate) for Vader

Shoulder pads and physical equipment belts for stormtroopers

AT-ST driver helmets, which could hold black ski goggles

Backpacks for snowtrooper and scout trooper

Jabba with a moving mouth

Satyr legs for Geonosians

Friends-body for a Kaminoan

R2 units with rotating heads

Mon Mothma with proper hair and a skirt

These are some pretty plausible and logical suggestions. Zam Wesell remains the minifigure in most need of a modern makeover. Can't add much more ideas beyond that. Besides red eyes for Vader, a third leg for Astromech Droids and skirt pieces for every cloaked character like Palpy and his Royal Guards. However, i strongly disagree regarding Vader's need for long legs, which would look super silly. While he is a little taller than most other characters, his hight isn't exactly equivalent to Avatar... As for the Kaminoans, they are perfectly fine as they are. Better not replacing any minifigures with mini dolls. Those formats should be kept separate from each other.

I agree with all these, as they're primarily updating mold accuracy or adding functionality.

On the others, though, I really hope they don't go that route. Vader isn't superhumanly tall, and I think introducing a "slightly taller" leg piece would be a mistake anyway. Stormtroopers certainly aren't bulky enough to warrant molded shoulder plates. And the current Kaminoans work fine for lego minifigures in my view, I wouldn't want them to introduce a whole new body type for the theme- the Kaminoans would look like they didn't belong in lego star wars.

The rest don't bother me as much- I could go either way on the geonosian legs, the stormie belts and scout backpacks feel unnecessary due to how little they stick out from the costumes in-universe but so long as they're printed underneath it wouldn't matter, and a brick-built jabba with added functionality is sorely needed.

Red eyed vader, updated astromechs, and skirts for characters who wear them are probably my top three wanted minifigure upgrades.

Day #144 of requesting the Lego Tie Avenger.

Disappointed that we didn't get our daily song/quote/snappy remark, I'll fill in, and since I finished my yearly Thrawn Trilogy reread I'll use that:

"The whole thing's ridiculous. You know it, and I know it"

"@CloneCommando99 doesn't think so."

"@CloneCommando99's even a worse idealist than you are sometimes. In the first place, he's never going to be able to hold this fan coalition of his together"

"Maybe not. But think of the possibilities if he can. There are a lot of leakers and information sources out there in the fringe that the Eurobricks Forum doesn't have any access to at all."

Even without stud.io- just adding plates to his legs looks weird. Vader's tall, but he's not lanky. At a certain point it just becomes one of those lego proportion things that most adults in lego are more or less the same height. It's the same thing with Yoda being almost as tall as a normal person, or astromechs. Minifigures aren't Black Series, they aren't trying to accurately 1-1 portray characters.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy????!!!!

I used the wrong Thrawn Trilogy quote, I should've dug one up from Dark Force Rising when they think they're all doomed. Because, as C-3PO likes to say, we are, in fact, doomed.

I don't mind if the set is still ok but thats the risk. Small set with a big price because of the smart brick. Still curious how this will turn out and if this smart brick will sell well.

Yes, I have tried it and true, the Avatar legs make him look like a dark side giraffe.

What I meant was a new mold for long legs wich would be modestly just one plate longer than the normal ones. Such legs would be useful for other characters too, like Chewbacca and other wookies.

And here I was actually feeling hopeful for a solid wave of good system sets

I’m guessing the X-Wing and TIE x1 will act as starter packs, with the rest of the March wave acting as add-ons without including the smart brick itself.

First it was the 3D printed train in the Winter Village set. Then it was the smart bricks in SW sets. What new horror will they come up with next?!

What is Lego thinking these days?!?

Yeah I agree, the set numbering seems to suggest that as well.

If the other sets are far less heavy on the smartbrick-thing, they could turn out okay value wise? I hope so.

While I'm sceptical about the smart gimmick thing, I do appreciate the clear focus on kids-oriented play and sets. Last January had 7 sets, of which 3 adult/display oriented.

8 playsets is good news imo, now let's hope the smartbrick doesn't hurt the value too much...

For that matter, I really hope that the entire wave isn't exclusive to one retailer, that's usually bad news. Can't believe Lego would do that with an entire wave and a new feature like this, limiting the availability like that is setting it up for failure imo.
