Lyichir Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Slinky Dog is surprising—he and Mr. Potato Head were notable omissions from previous Toy Story sets due to actually being licensed toys from other manufacturers (unlike the fully fictional toys like Woody, Buzz, and Rex). Of course, now that Lego is more open to working with companies like Hasbro, I can't help but wonder whether both of them might become available in minifigure scale at some point! Also curious how Slinky Dog will be built here—I presume if he's the focus of the Book Nook he'll be brick-built, but a coiled slinky shape isn't exactly easy to build out of Lego, which makes me wonder if new parts will be involved. DisneyLego Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Personally love the book nooks/bookends and excited we’re getting another Disney one. They’re easy to display and usually at a fair price point. As mentioned above, I am surprised we haven’t gotten a follow up of the villains set from a couple years back. Slinky dog is a welcomed addition though, hoping we get some new minifigs with it, even if they’re some of the random toy characters from Andy’s toy box Quote
hikouki Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Slightly OT, but does anyone have any suggestions for actual books (illustrated fairy tale books) that would look good sandwiched between either the Villains set, or the Wicked set? I bought some volumes of LOTR and will put the Balrog book nook in between there. Quote

Not exactlyyyy what you’re asking for but Disney did release journals that were just oversized exact replicas of the fairytale books used in the opening scenes of the original animated Disney movies. I know there’s at least Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and almost certain there’s a few others they’ve done. Just search Disney storybook replica. I actually purchased one for a family member and they have it displayed in a bookcase and looks great. Edited August 18 by DisneyLego Quote
OttoRiver Posted August 18 Posted August 18 New Leaks out: 43300: Winnie the Pooh - $149 43301: Slinky Dog Book Ends $149 43290: Kevin and Dug $59 43288: Sally's Flower Pot $49.99 (Minidoll) Happy to see the minidoll options are expanding beyond just the princesses to more parts of the studio like with Villains and now Sally. I think the Dug and Kevin will be like Wall-E and Eve. But that Winnie the Pooh set....be still my heart they're finally picking it back up. Hoping it's Rabbit's House and Garden or just a more general 100 Acre Wood set with Kanga, Roo, Owl, and Christopher Robin in there somehow. Quote
JeanGreyForever Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Very happy to hear about Slinky Dog. He's been long overdue and I figured there wouldn't be a licensing issue anymore since he's one of the rides in Toy Story Land. Wonder if he'll be minifigure scale or not. Will we see brickbuilt Toy Story characters in the set? I would love to get Bo Peep's full lamp, the toy chest, or some replica of Andy's bedroom. Quote
icm Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) Just off the top of my head I would expect the $150 Pooh set to be a large buildable Pooh Bear like the $150 Simba or the big Dalmatian Puppy. Edited August 18 by icm Quote

Lego talked about wanting to do future sets with more of the character houses and more minifigures but the long gap in-between made me worried the original set didn't sell well enough to justify more expansions. I'd love to see Rabbit's House and Garden too! Also would be happy to see Piglet's house or Owl's treehouse. Really hope all the characters you listed end up in the set. Eeyore's small house of sticks would also be an easy build that could be thrown in, no matter what the set depicts. Wonder if the character of Lumpy could ever have a chance to show up. Toy Story and Winnie the Pooh are two of my favorite franchises so I'm so psyched for them both! Also interesting to see some TNBC characters ending up as minidolls. That's nice but I hope we can get more TNBC minifigure sets to expand onto the Lego Ideas set. Would love to see Oogie Boogie, Jack as Sandy Claws, Dr. Finkelstein and his house. A sleigh with the skeleton reindeer would be perfect for Sandy Claws. 3 minutes ago, icm said: Just off the top of my head I would expect the $150 Pooh set to be a large buildable Pooh Bear like the $150 Simba or the big Dalmatian Puppy. If that's the case then I'm a little disappointed. But your theory seems the most likely since Lego's been whipping out a lot of these buildable figures for the classic Disney characters. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Yeah, that Winnie the Pooh set has to be a buildable figure. Why else would it be 18+? And before you say the Ideas set was also 18+, well yeah, all Ideas sets are Quote

They're best known for all the visual design and prints in the Harry Potter movies, but they've branched out beyond Harry Potter. Some MinaLima books that would fit your fairy tale theme would be Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Hans Christian Anderson's Fairy Tales (themed after The Little Mermaid), and Grimm Fairy Tales (themed after Snow White). The Jungle Book is also available, even if that isn't viewed as a fairy tale. Barnes and Nobles also releases leatherbound editions of classic literature. They have a lot more options including most of the ones listed above plus others like King Arthur, Treasure Island, the Arabian Nights, The Wind in the Willows, The Snow Queen, Winnie the Pooh, etc. etc. They have a sale going on right now (buy 1, get 1 50% off) if you'd like to take advantage of that. I'll post two links. The first one is for the child-sized versions and the second one is for the larger books and collections. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/barnes-noble-collectible-editions/kids/_/N-2cnbZ15Ztu1 https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/buy-one-get-one-50-off-bn-collectible-editions/_/N-2y1f?Nrpp=20&page=2 If your focus is on illustrations, the MinaLima books have an emphasis on the art because of the interactive pop-up elements. But the Barnes and Nobles books also feature some art, usually the original illustrations. Quote

Both from originating from a storybook but also because the original shorts/movie have a narrator flipping through the pages and reading. With the characters even interacting with the narrator and sometimes requesting small changes in the text. The original Winnie the Pooh set had a lot of original molds which haven't been used since so I'm sure they've been retired. Quote

Oh, please be book ends with Pooh stuck in Rabbit’s door split across each side! Realistically, that probably wouldn’t work with a minifigure. 2 hours ago, hikouki said: Slightly OT, but does anyone have any suggestions for actual books (illustrated fairy tale books) that would look good sandwiched between either the Villains set I can’t remember how tall the Villains set is, but book nooks/bookends could also be used with the right DVDs/blu-rays instead of books. OttoRiver Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) I'm going to choose to live in my delusions of a set for Winnie the Pooh despite the very reasonable idea of a buildable figure. I would happily compromise for a book nook instead. Edit: I know it wouldn't be the case given the set numbers, but I suppose they could do a book nook without Disney's involvement since all of the Winnie-the-Pooh books are public domain now. Wouldn't need to pay for any licensing for the 100 acre wood Edited August 19 by OttoRiver Quote

Wouldn't need to pay for any licensing for the 100 acre wood Depends on exactly what version they would go with - it would specifically have to be the Pooh without the red shirt, be more tan than yellow, and not be as round. The Disney Pooh is a lot more vibrant and what most people think of when they think of Pooh, so Lego would almost certainly want to go that way with things. Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Damn, that's a really disappointing Spring wave. Out of five sets, it seems not even a single one is a regular playset with minifigures. Quote
Kaijumeister Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Does everything have to be a buildable figure these days? At least balance it out with a couple of system playsets Cynically I think this is a win-win for Lego; budgets being used to focus solely on builds with no development on minifigure parts or prints must save a lot of money, and that’s before considering these being sold as 18+ sets. Quote
DisneyLego Posted August 19 Posted August 19 I will say, the buildable Disney figures have been executed pretty well lately but still not appealing enough for me. I’ve only purchased the Mickey/Minnie set from a few years back. A little bit of variety with the set types would go a long way. Still waiting on a series of castles. Thought we might be getting it when they started with a couple of the mini sets but seems to have stopped. With TS5 coming up and LEGO seemingly revisiting the franchise with sets can we pleaseeeee get a UCS style pizza planet truck, RC or Buzz’s ship??? The original TS line are some of my favorite sets LEGO put out, even as an adult collector but still so much potential left on the table. Now that the licensing seems to have been sorted out and they have slinky, give us the moving truck scene. Quote

RichardGoring Posted August 23 Posted August 23 I am trying to do something like this with my Disney castle and having a devil of a time creating the garlands. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to create them? Especially the dense looking examples in the second image. I've tried 2423 Plant Leaves 4 x 3 with 2x and 3x 19119 Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 6 Stems. And also tried 2417 Plant Leaves 6 x 5 with either 3x 19119 Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 6 Stems or 2x 19119 Plant Flower Stem with Bar and 6 Stems and 1x 24855 Plant Flower Stem with Bar Holder, Bar, and 3 Stems. All using 24866 Plate, Round 1 x 1 with Flower Edge (5 Petals) on the stalks. In all instances the garlands I create look quite sparse in comparison with those below, but I can't add anything else to them as there is no room. I would love some thoughts on this, or any guidance anyone can provide. Thanks so much! Quote
