I think a lot of people have misread the smart bricks. Everything leaked so far indicates there is no app coming, but rather just juiced up light/sound bricks that used RFID readers.

As far as I understood it, the bricks can interact with an app, but for the interaction of the bricks and the minifigures you don´t need it. What exactly you can do with the app, is something we will have to see. That is also why I don´t think it is good to start complaining here again if we don´t even know what exactly the bricks will bring. I will wait to see al features before I start judging it - that people however prefer normal figs where they can swap parts around and customize them is understandable and I don´t think we will see those figs everywhere soon.

The quickest way for me to get me to not buy a set is to include a Smart Brick in it, especially since they drastically compromise the design of sets. The new X Wing that leaked was not only the most ugly iteration but it’s the smallest and incredibly expensive. And the minifigs are are marked to the brim with copyright patents, for any gain in functionality you get with a Smart Brick you lose tenfold value in every other department. Not to mention some of the useless side builds they include in these sets to further drive up the price. 2026 Star Wars looks dire and I hope Harry Potter doesn’t follow the same fate cause I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of years.

Like I've said: The "smart bricks" are supposed to be just a part of "smart play", as are the "electronic minifigs". "Smart play" will include apps based on what we've been told so far.

My best guess?

1) Because the competition can do that, too, and often in similar quality and for a more reasonable price.

2) Because the target group keeps getting older. I'd guess that by now most LEGO buyers are adults in their fourties or thereabouts (hence the huge amount of 90s and 2000s nostalgia bait sets that keep getting developed). LEGO isn't as ubiquitious among kids as it used to be in the 90s, personally I know a fair number of kids who don't care for LEGO and only a handful who do (and those usually have at least one AFOL parent, but even so not all kids of AFOLs are interested in LEGO). Add to that point 1) above and LEGO must wonder who they are going to sell to in the future. So they want to become more relevant to a younger audience which means video games, streaming shows, lots of licensing currently relevant themes (like Wednesday and One Piece), and electronic/app-based play.

That’s my biggest issue. At least if the sets themselves were “regular” I wouldn’t mind too much but the X-Wing as you said is downsized and judging the piece count the Falcom looks like it’s heading the same way. What’s also sort of frustrating is that characters like Greedo have the smart brick in them, so you’d probably have to wait years if you wants a regular one.

@brickbride, Hidden Side! Thank you! I knew I was too salty for it to have only been the two failed digital products recently, so here we have a third. I have a number of Hidden Side sets, and while I wasn't particularly fussed about the digital aspect, I still had to pay higher prices for the lego I acquired, due to a gimmick they failed to properly support. If I weren't so used to licensed theme prices, I'd have likely balked. Boo. :hmpf_bad:

So I finally stopped sitting on my brains and image searched the "new" Hogwarts castle design posted up thread. Turns out - without the text - it dates back to at least 2017, so I think we needn't worry about it being the new castle design overmuch. It's surprising how much of a relief that was. I guess I like my Hogwarts classic. I'm excited to see their actual promotional material.

Oh, thank you. I had no time to search the source of that image, but I still considered it too strange for Hogwarts - really nothing I would have called Hogwarts.

Main Tower getting new packaging art as well....

Seems they are updating box art on any set that retires in 2027 or later. Pretty clear confirmation this was done to avoid confusion with the series coming out.

Since box collectors are a real thing, I wonder what version of these boxes will be more desirable.

If that's the reasoning, wouldn't it be less confusing if they kept Radcliffe et al on the box to clearly indicate which version the sets are based on? :snicker:

Haven't been active for a while, but what are your expectations for the 2026 summer wave? Or are there already leaks? Especially for the Hogwarts extensions?

I hope we get the viaduct entrance building including the bridge as big expansion. Interior wise we are still missing a Slytherin common room and a library. Maybe also a room like Umbridge's office or the prefect's bathroom (even though I doubt we get another bathroom in addition to the one that already exists in the Great Hall set). An updated version of the room of requirements is also missing (unless you count this year's GWP). And it's been a while since we had a proper quidditch set. Chamber of secrets I believe would also be too early but who knows.

I would love if they extend the current wave for another year into 2027 so we can also get the clock tower and/ or Astronomy tower.

In general, I'm quite surprised how well the minifigs are chosen since the 2024 reboot. So far we got all the major characters. better known characters that are still missing as to my knowledge are Umbridge, Sirius, Tonks, Mad Eye, Madame Pomfrey and Slughorn (even tho he appeared in the D2C).

The sets I’m personally predicting goes something like this:

Hogwarts Viaduct Entrance: This one is the obvious one, likely centering around the Chamber of Secrets with Slytherin Common Room, Library, Girl’s Bathroom and the Chamber itself. My biggest question with this one is if it will include the Viaduct itself or it will be sold separately like the 2023 Battle of Hogwarts.

Divinations Classroom: Given the formula of one big Hogwarts expansion in the Summer and at least one pull out classroom, this one feels pretty locked in especially with the new focus on Prisoner of Azkaban sets with the recent Privet Drive and Hospital Wing.

Flourish & Blotts and Borgin & Burkes: New Diagon Alley expansions have become a staple since the smaller line started. Flourish & Blotts is the second to last main shop left from the D2C Diagon Alley to be made in this new form. And while Borgin & Burkes is technically in Knockturn Alley, it still plays a significant part in the books & movies to get its own set and pairs well with Flourish both being in the Chamber of Secrets.

Whomping Willow: With the success of the botanicals , I’ve been pushing the narrative for a full blown buildable version of the tree with falling cherry blossom leaves for a while now and with a Chamber of Secrets/Prisoner of Azkaban wave both where it’s prominently featured it’s now or never and would be a cool way to differentiate it from the last two.

First Task/Hungarian Horntail: With Lego’s deliberate going book by book or movie by movie with each wave since the 2024 reboot, covering every one of the iconic scenes, with this wave we would wrap up Chamber and Prisoner and begin with Goblet. The most obvious sets from Goblet are the three tasks, now that the Durmstrang Ship and Beauxbaton Carriage have been made in this line, so seeing Lego make a more beefy Hungarian Horntail in line to the Iron Belly in the Gringotts set to perch on the Main Tower would be great. Maybe include parts of the arena too.
I also picked this one cause it’s been the only task that has been made twice since the 2018 reboot so it’s the most likely to be made again. And it’s not too recent like the Second Task.

Here is my dream lineup of how I would hope they finish out the Hogwarts Castle line, across the next two years.  I'm not expecting all of this, but this is how I'd design the rest.

Hogwarts Castle: Clock Tower - Provides one or two sides of the quad behind the Main Tower, and connects to the Hospital Wing.  I'd like the clock tower itself to be relatively film-accurate when viewed from the front or the back, so we get the iconic exterior and courtyard while also not revealing interior play features when viewing the Hogwarts model from the front.  I'd suggest that the top level of the tower should have the full grey roof visible from both sides, while the bottom half (which will be hidden behind the Main Tower set) could be open, either displaying a classroom or two or the swinging pendulum.  If LEGO chooses to fully enclose the quad, this set could be L-shaped and offer three classrooms, mirroring the Hospital Wing set.  I'd love to see another version of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, providing additional iconic elements.  So perhaps this set could include Moody's class (with foe glasses, the blackboard, and some spiders) and the Prefect's bathroom?  I like the idea of each large set including a big fig, and these rooms that I picked are Goblet of Fire themed, so I'd pick the Hungarian Horntail for this one.

Hogwarts Castle: Lockhart's Class - A modular classroom set that features more iconic Defense Against the Dark Arts elements, such as the dragon skeleton, the pixies, the small balcony, and Lockhart's giant portrait.

Hogwarts Castle: Astronomy Tower - A thinner but tall set, including several thinner rooms, stacked vertically.  It can optionally connect, via a suspension bridge, to the side of the Hospital Wing set.  It would be Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince themed, including a Room of Requirement (Dumbledore's Army style), Divination class, Umbridge's office, the Slug Club party, and the Astronomy class at the top.  Perhaps a small jail cell for Sirius' escape, and we could get a Buckbeak big fig.

Hogwarts Castle: Viaduct Entrance - This would be a smaller set, similar in size to the Hospital Wing, and it would connect adjacent to the Astronomy Tower set.  On the top floor would be the library with restricted section, and the Slytherin common room in the basement.  Perhaps a potions storage room or Snape's office also?  Bloody Baron for this set!

Hogwarts Castle: Chamber of Secrets - A lot of people think that the Chamber should be under the Viaduct Entrance.  I'd prefer to see more of the right side of the castle, completing the whole facade.  I'd prefer for the Long Gallery and Bell Towers designed to be a large Chamber of Secrets themed set.  The Flying Lesson would finally have a connection point, and this set would connect to the Viaduct Entrance set.  On the upper level would be Moaning Myrtle's bathroom and the "The Chamber of Secrets Has Been Opened" hallway.  Under Moaning Myrtle's bathroom could be the entrance to the Chamber, with the iconic door and bones.  The wider section of the basement would include the walkway with snake statues and the large Slytherin head statue.  The big fig would be the basilisk.

Hogwarts Castle: Battle of Hogwarts - The stand-alone viaduct that connects the Viaduct Entrance to the Great Hall.  This set would include several Deathly Hallows minifigures, including Voldemort, Harry, Neville, and Nagini.

And just because...  Hogwarts Castle: Whomping Willow

My guess is the following:

  • A Hogwarts expansion (Clock Tower or Astronomy Tower)
  • Chamber of Secrets. I have a feeling this one could come without a castle section on top this time, like the 2002 set.
  • Flourish & Blotts or a small-scale Gringotts as the next DA expansion
  • A new book nook
  • A buildable creature (Basilisk, Aragog, Gryndilow, or Niffler)
  • A buildable object (e.g., a life-size wand)
  • A GoF set (first or third task)

As for what I would want: I’m running out of ideas here :laugh_hard: There are some minor characters here and there that I would like to have as minifigs (Scrimgeour, Fletcher, the Carrows, the Bloody Baron, and Bem come to mind), but other than that, they’ve now done everything I’ve ever asked for. I’m at a point where I wouldn’t be sad about the theme retiring :snicker: Not gonna happen of course!

On Cheesey Studio youtube channel there's a video with all the sets put together.

Thanks for that! 👍🏻

I also hope that another HUGE set coms in the summer and that it's not the last! 🤗

I'm sure we'll get another piece of Hogwarts or two this summer for the front of the Long Gallery and the viaduct to complete the classic layout of Hogwarts as seen in the big Hogwarts D2C #71043. But given that some of the key pieces of the current modular castle are retiring soon (the Great Hall and the Boathouse) I doubt we'll get anymore big pieces in this collection in future, because having some of the key pieces out of production would prohibit any late-comers from starting the collection.

I hope I'm wrong; I'd love to get the PoA Clocktower, the Astronomy Tower, and so much more, and it would be a nice way to distinguish movie-inspired sets for nostalgic adults from any more child-friendly sets for the upcoming TV show, but trying to predict Lego's future plans is a skill beyond even Professor Trelawney's crystal ball...

The retiring of the Great Hall would certainly be indicative.

Maybe this was already discussed, but the death eaters in the Privet Drive Escape set have fully different heads, with alternates, providing four masks in total. I expected them to have a shared head with each one using a different side.

Now that means I instantly want duplicates of them, but what would I do with the extra Hagrid and Harry... so I probably won't.

If we’re lucky, they’ll show up again in a Battle at the Department of Mysteries set at some point! ^^

I hope they’ll also reuse the Death Eater’s head from the Gringotts set at some point. That one is pretty tricky to get a second copy of :snicker:

I mean, it is the battle of the SEVEN potters after all! The more Harrys, the merrier! And it never hurts to have a bonus Hagrid!

My plan is to get 2-3 of this set to army-build my death eaters and Harrys, haha!

I gues at this point we can hope for the viaduct and at least a gate between two small towers as the last big expansion - probably including Myrtles Bathroom and the chamber beneath as well as Slytherin common room with the bloody baron. Then there will probably be an exchangable classroom for Trelawney. I could see them giving us a womping willow (maybe with crookshanks?).

The flying leason still needs a place to be put... I could imagine it being connected right to the viaduct entrance to surround the Whoming willow and the greenhouse.

I guess, if we are really, really, really lucky we will see a last 100€-expansion. Maybe really just clocktower or astronomy tower with plates instead of rooms like the flying lesson, so Trelawneys room can be inserted.

A good remake, of course for people who have not the 2022 previous one, would be a Shrieking Shak + Whomping Willow. It could easily merge with the Hogsmeade set and add the tree as part of Hogwarts fields.
