Hm, sounds like it'll be quite a bit smaller...
Well, I guess as long as it's still accurate, build and print/sticker-wise...

The minifigs and their accessories sounds awesome, though!
Love that we're getting Picard with 'Tea, Earl Grey, hot'

The plaque with the ship's technical specs sounds like it'll be shaped like a Starfleet badge, which is a really nice touch :sweet:

I think I'm still in the camp that I would have preferred a minifig-scale bridge over the entire Enterprise, but I also completely understand why Lego went with the full ship. Hopefully they are able to get a second TNG set and focus on the bridge.

I don't know if I would be able to fork over a full $400 for it... Maybe I can get lucky and find a decent deal on the minifigs from someone who just wants the ship.

Since we're getting the full ship AND minifigures, it sounds like we're getting the best of both worlds. I'm sure fans will be making their own bridges (or the whole ship, if I can get enough bricks!), but I expect that the display model of the complete ship should sell better than a playset of the bridge. If the ship does well, I hope we might get further sets such as playsets, but if this ends up being a one-off at least we're getting a good mix of minifigures out of it.

I see what you did there. ;-)

I've been building some of the Star Trek midi scale ships by skyfox2k on Rebrickable and combined the Enterprise D with the Milky Way galaxy.

I really like this scale, so I hope the official LEGO set is as good of a build and doesn't feel over the top at the size it is. Presumably the saucer section will be about 30cm in diameter, so a decent size. Balancing it on the stand may be challenging!

Did you see the Bluebrixx ready room painting art set? I didn't end up getting that one, but the juxtaposition of those two builds reminds me of it.

Just looked it up, and it's very neat!

I feel conflicted about this set. At 60cm I just have no interest in the ship, it's too much space and I hate when there are minifigures but no way for them to inhabit the build or interact with it. At the same time, I really want the minifigures. I'm tempted to just wait and see if they do other sets down the line.

I think the deciding factor for me will be the GWP. If it's a minifigure compatible shuttle (and actually looks good) then I'll buy the set to get the minifigures and GWP and then sell the main ship secondhand.

Really I would prefer they do a line of midi scale ships and then minifigure playsets for the interiors and planets. I really don't like that they went UCS, but I guess it makes sense if this ends up being a one and done sort of franchise for Lego.

I have the large scale plastic model kit of the Enterprise D which is 46 cm long. Assuming Lego maintains the size ratio the Lego kit will have the following dimensions:

  • Length 60 cm
  • Height 21 cm
  • Saucer Width 44 cm
  • Saucer Length 36.5 cm
  • Saucer Height at thickest 5 cm; at edge, about a Lego plate
  • Nacelles length 23.5 cm

Awesome display!

Minifig scale bridge! That would be fantastic! Perhaps in a follow up set?

Glory be, thought this would never happen, it's a dream come true for me, since I have been watching Star Trek for 50 plus years, lol and still watch it on a regular basis, even though I have every episode memorized.

While I am disappointed it isn't TOS, I can understand why, it is very dated, even old fashioned the Enterprise itself really isn't very detailed and actually quite plain looking. That and the fact that some of the situations were of the time and consequently don't really fit with modern attitudes and acceptable behavior.

I will have to see it first though before I even consider buying it.

I was never really a fan of TOS, having grown up with TNG, but I appreciated the movies. I've been building some of the Star Trek midi-scale Rebrickable models by skyfox2k and loving them. MOCs Designed by skyfox2k | Rebrickable

Both the NC01 and NC01-A look terrific. Just had the parts delivered for the NC01 and the A looks sufficiently different that I may get that one too. I definitely think they could do a model of it. Although I might, just, prefer the next model to be the 1701-E, which looks terrific.

Pics?

You can't post picture leaks on EB, or links to them. You can only describe where to find them, or text descriptions of what the leaks look like.

Loving the minifigs, the Enterprise itself... less so, I hope it'll look better in high-res pictures, but the Galaxy class was always going to be a challenge to recreate with Lego bricks. But why so many tan pieces? I get that they might have wanted to break up the monotony of light grey pieces, but it looks weird to me.

Wow, that is... something.
Not liking the saucer section as seen from above. It's way too oval I believe yet emphasizes exactly what I didn't like about the Enterprise-D in general.

I still have high hopes for the minifigures however. They sounded perfect in the descriptions so far, regarding their accessories, so let's hope they''re done well quality wise too.
In the picture of the ship as seen from below, it looks decent, though :sweet:

Looks great, but how on Earth is that gonna be a stable connection between the detachable “saucer” and the rest of the ship?!

Good question, I hadn't even thought of that... maybe a very sturdy standard to place it on, or a transparent pillar underneath the saucer? :sceptic:

There are parts of it that I think are terrific and I'm looking forward to seeing more and better pictures.

I kind of hope that the windows on the circumference are stickers, as I don't particularly like the decoration, especially as there are no other windows on the saucer section, so I could not apply them.

The phaser array flex tube looks pretty rough, so I'm interested to see that in more detail. Fortunately, it should be easy to remove.

I really wish this was accompanied by a TNG CMF.
Locutus, Tasha, Lwxana, Pulaski, Barclay, O’Brien, K’ehleyr, Q, Lore, Gowron, Tomalak & Ro Laren … that would do nicely.
