That’s the sad truth. The DCU will have to first prove successful before TLG will release any sets. How high the demand for sets will be a year or more after the movie’s release is anyone’s guess, but they clearly didn’t want to take the risk. If a 100$ Batman Forever Batmobile with one measly minifig is the safer option in comparison, that speaks volumes!

Superman doesn't only have twice as many noteworthy characters with unique suits and powers, but the Hammer of Boravia, the Kaiju, the Fortress of Solitude all would make some damn good sets.

I would absolutely 100% buy the hell out of an incinerator room playset, the Sentry Watchtower, the limo chase, etc.

I though "I just need something besides batman" was going to be the worst the theme could get before dying, now it's "I wish we could get some comic batman sets." 

In what world is a $15 mech with superman and lex the best set of the year?

what happens if Arkham D2C is hit seller and the forever Batmobile and the Superman movie hits a billion worldwide or close to it? 

 

I'll tell you what, Marvel still gets more sets,  and us DC fans still get the same output. 

Hopefully Lego can change this.

I think that would validate the current approach of putting out 1 or 2 higher quality Batman sets a year and calling it a day. I also don’t think one movie is gonna seriously change LEGO’s stance towards DC. If the rest of the DCU takes off then maybe, but I honestly think superhero movies have been passed by in the zeitgeist. Suspect the superheroes line is due to revert to something more comic based soon enough.

I doubt it. If the DCU does well and the MCU  regains its footing, we’ll get sets for new releases from both. If only the DCU does well, we’ll see a bunch of DCU sets and some MCU legacy sets. If the MCU regains its footing and the DCU flops, we’ll see what we’re seeing now but with more Marvel sets  focusing on new releases. If both flop, this line will just become MCU legacy and various Batman media sets.

That’s what I’m saying though, I don’t think either cinematic universe is hitting the 2010’s heights again anytime soon, even if they’re well made films. Batman, Spiderman, *maybe* Superman can hit a billion dollars right now. Doomsday probably will out of sheer curiosity. But I think Disney+ has taken a large wind out of the box office sail for the mid-level projects. Just from a personal point of view, I only go to the theater for the big ones now, where in 2017 I was there for almost all of them.

Oh, I wasn’t disagreeing with any of what you said about that. I was disagreeing about us being due for comic based sets. If those sold well, we’d still be getting more than a handful of junior sets every year. I think we’re doomed to nothing but movie sets from here on out. The only question is whether they’ll focus on new releases or old ones.

Yeah I mean not on the DC side. That’ll probably stay movies. I think they’d be willing to give generic Spidey sets a a go though.

Oh, for sure. Lego will still be pumping out Spider-Man sets long after the superhero theme is dead. When I refer to comic book sets and getting comic book sets, what I typically mean is comic book sets for everyone but Spider-Man since we get plenty of those still.

The fact that the new Superman merchandise seems to actually be doing super well in stores makes LEGO's decision to not do anything for this movie all the more painful.

Agreed. Sometimes pain is the greatest teacher. 

The person who decided to make no sets for a freaking Superman movie is likely the same guy who thought Young Leia would be a good LSW Anniversary figure, the X-Jet, Hoopty and this year’s Endgame battle’s price, no Tie Avenger or ISB Tactical Shuttle for Andor S2, and of course the lack of Robin in the megablocking Batman and Robin Batmobile.

These decisions are too stupid to have been made by multiple people. (I’m joking of course. But it does feel like this is the case at times)

Plot Twist - at the end of the movie Superman gets a new suit which is what the minifig is based on then fights power armour lex. We had a Superman movie set this whole time. Mech was just to throw us off

Even getting a single £20-30 set for Superman would’ve been something. It’s quite sad seeing that Lego aren’t taking a chance on this film given how great it’s looking but are perfectly willing to dedicate a £90 slot towards Batman Forever of all films.

The Batman Forever Batmobile build looks incredible though. I didn’t grow up with the film and am not the biggest fan of that Batmobile design, but no doubt it’s incredibly well made.

Yes, but if Lego made a set for Superman they couldn’t make ten new Endgame final battle sets and fans of that scene would have to be content with only the thirty Endgame final battle sets. Do you want Avengers Endgame final battle fans to starve?

I like the implication that the buyers aren't Endgame fans per se, but specifically fans of the final battle. Like they turn it on and just skip the first three hours of the movie.

Moreso that failure is the greatest teacher, as Rian—er, the Green Rubber Mooppet—er, Yoda taught in TLJ. This is a major misstep on their part, even larger than the time the LEGO set designers said that all yellow clones look the same.

 

If the movie is just called Superman, thus the branding is Superman the character instead of the individual movie itself, shouldn’t the mech count toward movie merch? Obviously TLG should’ve either done a movie set or at least throw the movie suit in the mech, but it is LEGO Superman among this year’s DC lineup, which has been a novelty since 2019 onwards.

I mean I could understand that, the movie might call some cool moments but the plot is an inconsistent self contradictory mess so much so that it always puzzles me when people say X movie is the best marvel movie since endgame. It'd be saying this is best thing that has happened to me since that herring gull shat on my hoodie. Surely every moment that bird didn't poo on you was better?

The only post endgame MCU projects that I've like less than it were werewolf by night ( controversial pick I know), Secret invasion ( I couldn't even force myself to finish this one), Antman 3 ( where as the first one is top tier, this one is a better story than endgame but doesn't have those fun moments endgame has). Echo and daredevil born again I haven't seen yet as I'm waiting till I catch up on netflix daredevil first.

my prediction 

1.Supergirl mech vs Lobo

2. 4 plus Batbike with Green Lantern vs Joker

3. The Dark Knight rises The Bat with Batman, Catwoman,  Bane and Gordon 

4. Batman main Bust The Dark Knight 

5. The Bat UCS from Dark Knight rises 

6. Batcave D2C set 3500 pieces

- minifigure scale Burton Batmobile with Batman and Danny Devito Penguin

- UCS BtAS Batmobile

 

Between Avengers Doomsday releasing and Lego not having enough faith in Superman to release a set, I don’t have much hope for next year. Especially when one of DC’s biggest releases next year is a Green Lantern TV series. Love the character, but Lego has been scared to touch him ever since the 2011 movie.
