I wouldn't think so either, I just find it suspect that we've had probably in the ballpark of ten villain dragons over the years (I don't have time to check RN but I can think of like five off the top of my head) versus just the two big snakes. Dragons might just be more interesting for kids since they have more points of articulation, I guess? Idk Quote

The build works really well and it's very displayable. The minifigures are aplenty, and they look fantastic. Still don't like the ZX armour being golden for all the Ninja though; it definitely leaves a (very small) sour aftertaste. I'm very excited, everything I've seen about it is incredible, they even gave Zane and Jay new faces from what I heard! I can see the arguments for and against gilding all the ninja- I don't mind too much, but it'd be nice if Jay, Cole, and Lloyd's masks could show up on PAB at some point in the original colors. Jay and Cole I really don't mind at all- I especially like how the gold draws more attention to Jay's silver armor, as it was actual armor in the show that saves his life at least once IIRC- but the gunmetal coloring really did make Lloyd's ZX suit stand out among his others. 10 minutes ago, Meaf said: I wouldn't think so either, I just find it suspect that we've had probably in the ballpark of ten villain dragons over the years (I don't have time to check RN but I can think of like five off the top of my head) versus just the two big snakes. Idk I'm not super caught up on the more recent lore- I might be wrong in assuming the Water Dragon and most (but not all) of the DR dragons are good, but here's what I've got for "evil" dragons (Not counting the tiny side builds they put in polybags or ): 6: Mech, Morrow's, Empire, Skull Sorcerer's, Overlord's, and Thunderfang. Which, sure, is three times as many evil dragons as big snakes, but I would say less than a third of our villain-centric sublines have snakes as the antagonists anyway, right? (Rise of the Snakes, Seabound, half of Tournament of Elements, half of Forbidden Spinjitzu, and then some of the Legacy/Core sets). And while dragons fit into most subthemes it would be a little strange for the nindroids or Stone Army to have a big snake. I do think you're right that Dragons probably edge out snakes a bit in terms of play value, I think the larger issue for the devourer is that we get so few villain-focused sets. (Which I think makes sense to an extent- when I was a kid I always wanted whatever the Jay vehicle was for that year, because he was my favorite. I usually only could get 1-3 ninjago sets a year, but I don't think I ever missed a Jay-focus set. Whereas with the villains, I'd be fine with whoever came in the Jay set or whichever others I got + trying to make my own out of spare parts. I assume most kids who are only getting a few sets focus on the ones with their favorite ninja.) Quote
Rolyat24 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I do think it would be difficult to do the Devourer justice in a playset. Dragons are relatively easy because they have legs and wings and neck(s) to make exciting poses and scenes. A snake is more difficult to capture both the range of motion while also making something that can be “sat up” in the way that the 2012 model was. If we do ever see it in a set, it might work better as a display/diorama build instead, aimed at older fans who have nostalgia for the first season. I’m not saying it’s impossible, and I’d like to be proven wrong, but it definitely presents new challenges not yet tackled in a satisfying way. Quote
Flyingkangaro Posted January 7 Posted January 7 New leaks for the summer are 71867 X-1 Ninja Charger and 71869 Land Bounty. Interesting choices I was not expecting. Quote
Lemerbrix Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Why are we getting the X-1 ninja charger as the final 15th anniversary set? All the other ones tie in to the 15th anniversary so well! Here's my points: Ninja character display: recreates the front gate of the monastery, a location iconic to the show Four weapons blacksmith: where the story all began, and a set people had wanted a proper version of for years! Lloyd's titan mech: a remake of the first ever titan mech, with all the functions the more modern titan mechs have The old town: an amazing build packed with characters and references to ninjago's entire history How does the X-1 ninja charger represent 15 years of ninjago, it's got literally nothing special that cements it as the final 15th anniversary set. Now if it was cole's tread assault that was the final 15th anniversary set, that would make a lot more sense, as it's an iconic vehicle, a set that fans have wanted a remake of, and fits the 15th anniversary! I am excited for the land bounty, I never got the original, so this will be fun! Edit: i should clarify that the X-1 set number matches up with the only 14+ set in the list, confirming this is the 15th anniversary set, not the land bounty Edited January 8 by Lemerbrix Ages 14 and up Quote
mantax Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The X-1 ninja charger feels like the worst option for the last 15th anniversary set. The previous legacy version was a perfect improvement from the original in almost every way. While this doesn't look that great on paper I feel like they could add some things to make it a lot better. I would really love to see it done in the style of a diorama. This new version will have 92 more pieces, so I'd actaully see them making the car a bit smaller, and with it they could include a part of a road to which you could attach the car plus some nindroid hover vehicles to make it more dynamic. I don't see this set having just the car when it's targeted at older fans. The Land Bounty on the other hand sounds really great to me. It shouldn't be a legacy version of the 2019 one, but I always love mobile base type sets, so this immediately has my interest. Quote
Renny The Spaceman Posted January 8 Posted January 8 How well must that set have sold both times before for it to be remade 5 years later? Like I get doing a Kai vehicle he sells best but I never thought this was one of the big ones, thought it sold as well as any Kai car does Quote

It's also interesting that it's not a Rise of the Snakes set like most of the others (or a Titan Mech, the archtype of which didn't exist until S11). At the very least, this'll include some new Nindroids, right? But I wonder why they chose this, as now they either have to inaccurately put the ZX suits in place of the rebooted robes, or the set will include only exclusive figures that- to my knowledge- we don't have any indication will be re-used anytime soon. The designers have done an excellent job overall with this wave of legacy, so I'm having trouble seeing where they're coming from with this one but also assuming there'll be something here- I can't see legacy being 4 hydrogen bombs and a coughing baby, so to speak. The only thing I can think of is that they were pressed to include a Kai vehicle at this price point- and specifically a vehicle, not a dragon. In which case the X-1's benefit, I guess, is that it has the potential to provide us with the Overlord, who hasn't popped up since the last legacy wave. The Charger is also definitely one of those designs that seems like the perfect toy for a kid, which makes the 14+ label even more perplexing. Quote

Takanuinuva Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Could be cause the original Legacy X1 wasn't that good. So they might want to try again? Quote
mantax Posted January 9 Posted January 9 3 hours ago, Takanuinuva said: Could be cause the original Legacy X1 wasn't that good. So they might want to try again? I really don't see that being the case. From what I remember back when the set released most fans were satisfied with it. If there was a set for which the legacy version didn't do enough justice, then that would have been the Ultra Sonic Raider. That one was missing so many features that the original had, that it felt more like a remake of the 2016 one. Quote
Rolyat24 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 It’s certainly interesting. As someone who skipped the last two X1’s, I’m curious to see if they’ll win me over this time! I expect the decision came from above that there needed to be a Kai vehicle around this price point, and the X1 might be the most iconic option. Certainly I’d prefer almost anything else, but if kids like the red cars then I can’t blame them. I have high hopes for the new Land Bounty. I bought the first one at a deep discount and actually found it kind of charming. If they can make improvements and/or take the design in a new enough direction, then I’m sure it could be a good set. Dragons Rising has yet to really let me down yet, so we’ll see. Quote
BlueLanturnCorp Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Looks like we're getting a new character encyclopedia. https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-ninjago-2026-book-minifigure-announced/ I'm curious who we'll get, given that the ZX Nya is board game only, so that puts her off the list. Quote

Seeing as the 2023 one was Samurai Lloyd, it could be pretty much anyone. DX Nya would be interesting but two exclusive legacy ninja suits in non-sets for Nya would be surprising. One thing that could be really cool is a golden weapons or ZX version of Arin or Sora. (Or Dareth- ZX Dareth would be so hilarious) Edit: I have received and built the Ninja Anniversary display. The set is almost a perfect set. Obviously, as has been discussed to death, the value is incredible, as is getting the full S1 cast+ Jay's mom in one set. One thing that hasn't been discussed as much is how good the build is- it's not a battle pack type of set where it's about the figures and the build is whatever, the monastery entrance is legitimately an excellent display piece- even if you only put 1-2 figures on it- and there are a lot of interesting techniques used and parts I'd only seen before in stud.io. The figures themselves are also all excellent- having them in-hand, I really do think going with gold for Jay and Cole was the right move, it adds a lot of team cohesion and the gold details added to the suits themselves mean the individual figures still look good even away from the team. I have a few, tiny nitpicks on it. They gave Jay a new head, but unlike Zane (who received that amazing new head on his human form), Jay is still based on the redesign. Why not give him back his old eyebrows? Jay's my favorite, and I'm still of the belief that he should be a redhead with a cut in one eyebrow, so it's definitely something I'm noticing that most people wouldn't care about, but if you're giving him a new head anyway, why not make it accurate? I also think Lloyd could have had gunmetal rather than gold. It's nice to have the additional team cohesion on Jay and Cole, but Lloyd is supposed to be the one who stands out, and gunmetal is a much rarer color to see on him than gold in general. I may swap his armor and crown out. But overall, a near-perfect set. How could it be perfect, you ask? A few simple changes to the minifigure roster. My guess is that it's because of his only set also includes a big fig, which tend to be fairly desirable? But even that doesn't fully explain it, cause Killow is $120 and the one from Skybound that I forgot the name of is around $20 last I checked. None of the other Sons of Garmadon minifigures are too expensive either afaik, so maybe that set just had a really limited production for whatever reason. Quote

Rolyat24 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Definitely a few interesting leaks there. Most exciting are the twin titan mechs, which I suppose explains why Lloyd got a remake this year. I was initially upset that the slot was used for Lloyd instead of Kai or Nya, but now I’m (probably) satisfied! I do hope this isn’t the end for the titan mechs. I’d love to see Arin, Sora, Wyldfyre, and Wu get one! Speaking of Wyldfyre, great to hear she’s getting a larger set! It sounds intriguing, can’t wait to see it. The biggest disappointment is definitely the Ultra Dragon Battle not being the actual Ultra Dragon. I’m sure the set will be beautiful, I just had my hopes up for an Epic Dragon Battle display including the Devourer. Maybe for the 20th! Quote
