The new exclusive book minifigure has been revealed to be a… pretty lackluster remake of Titanium Zane. On the one hand it’s nice to see Zane in that color again. On the other, this can’t be a minifigure that very many people were asking for, and it’s made all the more perplexing by the lack of any mask for Zane. The new Legacy hoods were right there and would have elevated the fig to the next level. I guess you could treat this as the official Legacy 2 Zane if you’re trying to fit it in somewhere in the existing lineup!- 794 replies

This year’s budget has definitely been stretched thin, but even so I think it’s a testament to the designers how many great sets they’ve released anyway. Dragons Rising may have suffered the most, but there are still a few enticing sets and some very cool minifigures spread across the two waves. The battle pack is very similar to the others, but I agree that the minifigure selection has gotten pretty bad in these. I assume kids testing these sets want more named characters than “army builders” (although as a kid I totally would have preferred a more traditional battle pack). At the very least it should come with at least one “complete” dragon ninja. As it is now, there’s very little incentive to buy one, let alone multiple. Gimtak, on the other hand, is very charming. A unique looking creature build plus an exclusive villain and dragon Kai. Very Chima-esque, in a good way. Interesting that the 4+ set comes with “exclusive” acid monsters. I guess the serpentine tail piece isn’t suitable for that age group? But then why not use a different monster figure that is? I wonder if 4+ sets get a separately designated budget for new prints. Wyldfyre’s mech is the standout of the DR wave for me. It looks great in both forms and the transformation function is quite smooth. To me this is a big improvement on Lloyd’s mech jet from last year, but I may be biased since I love dragons. Agree with others that the land bounty is a bit dull for a flagship set of the whole season. I bought the last one at 50% off and don’t need a new one. Sad that the lava monster is only available here. I don’t see why they went all-in on the acid monsters this wave. If Pick a Brick were what it used to be, this would be fine. Heck, even if they throw this in a magazine it still won’t be available in the North American market. This year definitely took a new approach to Ninjago villain factions by having several different monster figs plus the loyalists. It makes the overall year feel a little extra disjointed, even if the figs themselves are rather cool. I don’t mind them breaking the pattern of “same minifigures with different color scheme” that they’ve used the last two years. That also felt disjointed in its own way. Curious to see what next year and Season 5 bring! The Legends sets really steal the show this summer though. That Ultra Dragon is beautiful, and I like how they were able to show the Devourer’s massive scale without somehow including the whole snake. We’re not likely to ever get a “full” Great Devourer that does the creature any justice, so this is the next best thing. The Dragon Blade set isn’t as appealing to me. The dragon and mech look like something out of a $30 playset. Meanwhile the base is super intricate, but not something I’d want on its own. Maybe once we get a sense of its scale, we could see what it looks like with other models displayed on it. But for now I think I’ll be skipping that one.- 794 replies

The new Titan Mechs look phenomenal, and I think the “complete” lineup of 6 does a great job at keeping each distinct while using enough visual cues to tie them all together. My one minor complaint is that for a $140 set they couldn’t just give us two more torsos and legs to have five complete minifigs. Feels very stingy of TLG for a premium product, but overall not a huge deal. I wonder if these two new characters are indeed twins (explaining the set name) and LEGO just included the Kai and Nya pieces so we could have the complete Titan Mech lineup done. I do find it interesting that we’re getting three of these mechs this year to complete the original six ninja. Do we think that means a change is coming in the near future and this was just a way to close an open thread beforehand? Or maybe the Ninjago team just wants to move onto newer concepts and didn’t want to be beholden to releasing a Titan mech every two years? Personally I’d still welcome additions for Wu, Garmadon, Arin, Sora, and the rest of the new crew. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking. Finally, that new not-Nya hood piece looks quite similar to the Lloyd CMF hood. I predict we could see a wave where all six ninja have hoods on like this, and these first two examples were ways to spread out the parts budget. Only time will tell, I suppose, but it would be a fun new concept.- 794 replies

It does feel like a cross between the Mech Jet and the Source Dragon of Motion. I do kind of wish it had a slightly different color scheme, but maybe better pictures will change my mind. There is some blue on the underside, after all. I’m also curious to see what it looks like transformed. It could be a fun complement to the Riyu mech from last year. It’s hard to make out any other details. Seems like a good minifig lineup though, and a sizable villain build.- 794 replies

The CMF Lloyd was leaked (alongside the rest of the series). The highlight is definitely the new hood with hair poking out. I wonder if the Ninjago designers will reuse this piece in normal sets. It would be cool to have a whole lineup of ninja in hoods like this, but also could require quite a few new parts to capture the variety of hair styles. The rest of the fig is nothing super special. Nice to see arm printing and a darker color scheme for Lloyd. Looks like the shoulder armor is in dark brown, is that a new color? The accessories are quite disappointing, two of the most common weapons in the most common color. I was at least hoping for a new color for the katana!- 794 replies

I think it’s a nice build, just not 90 USD nice. For that amount, I’d have at least expected better (or more) minifigures or a side build. Looks like I’ll be 0/3 on the X-1 Chargers, better luck in 2031!- 794 replies

Definitely a few interesting leaks there. Most exciting are the twin titan mechs, which I suppose explains why Lloyd got a remake this year. I was initially upset that the slot was used for Lloyd instead of Kai or Nya, but now I’m (probably) satisfied! I do hope this isn’t the end for the titan mechs. I’d love to see Arin, Sora, Wyldfyre, and Wu get one! Speaking of Wyldfyre, great to hear she’s getting a larger set! It sounds intriguing, can’t wait to see it. The biggest disappointment is definitely the Ultra Dragon Battle not being the actual Ultra Dragon. I’m sure the set will be beautiful, I just had my hopes up for an Epic Dragon Battle display including the Devourer. Maybe for the 20th!- 794 replies

It’s certainly interesting. As someone who skipped the last two X1’s, I’m curious to see if they’ll win me over this time! I expect the decision came from above that there needed to be a Kai vehicle around this price point, and the X1 might be the most iconic option. Certainly I’d prefer almost anything else, but if kids like the red cars then I can’t blame them. I have high hopes for the new Land Bounty. I bought the first one at a deep discount and actually found it kind of charming. If they can make improvements and/or take the design in a new enough direction, then I’m sure it could be a good set. Dragons Rising has yet to really let me down yet, so we’ll see.- 794 replies

I do think it would be difficult to do the Devourer justice in a playset. Dragons are relatively easy because they have legs and wings and neck(s) to make exciting poses and scenes. A snake is more difficult to capture both the range of motion while also making something that can be “sat up” in the way that the 2012 model was. If we do ever see it in a set, it might work better as a display/diorama build instead, aimed at older fans who have nostalgia for the first season. I’m not saying it’s impossible, and I’d like to be proven wrong, but it definitely presents new challenges not yet tackled in a satisfying way.- 794 replies

We know the Serpentine tail is still in production as of this year. I also think it’s likely that Pythor’s head is still around, considering how often he shows up. Add a couple of ZX ninja and Garmadon and you’d be set (really Garmadon should have four arms but that would require a new mold, and I could see them skimping out on that). Ideally we’d see a few other Serpentine as well. I think a good compromise would be a common mold that could be recolored and printed for each tribe, maybe for the likes of Mezmo and Chokun. Bonus points if it could also be used for Frak later down the line.- 794 replies

Since we’ve already had three location sets and one mech for the anniversary, I think it’s unlikely the final set is another building. I’m guessing it’ll either be a dragon or a vehicle of some sort. I’d welcome a Morro Dragon, Master Wu Dragon, or Titanium Dragon. Not sure which vehicles (if any) are iconic enough for a remake. Maybe Cole’s Tread Assault? I’d prefer something more obscure like Garmatron or the Ninjacopter, but everything so far (minus the Old Town) has been fairly iconic in Ninjago history.- 794 replies

This is a very interesting wave. Most of the DR sets don’t interest me that much, but I am liking the look of the Dragon of Life more than the leaked pictures. Riyu is nice but it’s hard to justify yet another model of him, especially when we’re fairly likely to eventually see a “full-sized” adult Riyu. The treehouse is laughable, and the vehicles in that set aren’t much better. Still, I’m sure kids will like it. Shame that Euphrasia is in that set, that’ll be the second time I can’t get her minifig. I actually like Jay and Nya’s car, but not enough to actually buy it. Cole and Kai’s mechs are also good, just nothing super special or new. I do wish they had included a full dragon Kai in that small set. As it is, it’s not worth it to buy it for the figs. It also bothers me that the new ninja don’t get the cool new suits each wave. Arin and Sora are arguably the two main characters now, and I think their dragon suits would look really cool. Not to mention there’s no sign of Wyldfyre or Frak. Hoping they both show up in the next wave. The Legacy sets are definitely the stand outs here. That display stand is sleek and comes with a full slate of characters! Lloyd’s mech is a great upgrade to the 2019 set and looks to rival Cole’s Titan Mech! (But I’m still waiting for Kai and Nya to get their own). The Old Town promises to be another good one, and it sounds like it’ll be revealed next week! Rumors say Tuesday, so we’ll see! This leaves one final Legacy set for the summer wave. Any guesses on what it could be? Fire Temple? Borg Tower? Great Devourer? I feel like a lot of the most iconic sets have already been reimagined. Finally, the new BAM minifigs are a cool addition to the anniversary. Mystake especially will be popular as a new oni, but I’m more excited for S10 Nya and casual PIXAL. I’ll have to get to a Lego store if I can!- 794 replies

Update: we have a short description! And apparently Dr. Saunders will be in the set rather than Ed. The set sounds similar to the Temple of Aijitzu, with a large central building (described as a monastery) with two side shops. I’m hoping it looks distinct enough from the older set, as it would feel silly to repeat that layout when there are infinite other creative possibilities. I’ll stay cautiously optimistic. Jay ZX looks bad with a gold mask and armor. Maybe they didn’t want to have to recolor the armor element in 1-2 additional colors? Mystake has also leaked and looks pretty generic with a straw hat and reused torso.- 794 replies

Plus Lloyd’s Titan Mech coming in March I believe. A supposed minifig list for the “Old Town” set has leaked. Not sure about the source, but if it’s true this could go down as one of the best lineups in Ninjago history. Again, I’m skeptical, especially considering it includes long awaited characters like Dr. Julien and the return of Krux, Acronix, Harumi, and others. Anyone have any insight as to whether or not it could be true? The wide variety would lead me to definitely think it’s another city modular, as the characters are truly all over the place.- 794 replies

The build looks incredible! So many fun details and a beautiful fully enclosed building! It seems they are also sparing no expense for the minifigs. This set has 5-6 completely unique figures (depending on if Wu is repeated elsewhere) and they all look amazing and fairly accurate to the source material. I’m glad they brought back Nya’s original hair and I would have liked Kai to get a similar treatment. And the anniversary figure is one I never expected to see in a real set. Definitely better than getting another round of golden ninja!- 794 replies

I honestly don’t mind the new mask, I think it’s an interesting take on the ZX ones without feeling too similar. But I’m not a fan of all 5 (6?) ninja having gold accents. Gold is overdone and really doesn’t look as good on Jay and Lloyd. I want to see the theme branch out more into silver or another metallic color. I do wonder what version(s) of Nya we’ll see. I’d imagine we’ll get a Samurai X remake in the anniversary display set. But in the blacksmith, maybe 2011 Nya? I could also see them just reusing the S1 suits or even just DR ones. My personal pick would be a reimagined ZX ninja suit for Nya, but that seems very unlikely.- 794 replies

I like the look of the Dragon of Life, although I wish it was a source dragon. As this is the largest set from the winter wave, I doubt we’ll also see a large dragon in summer 2026. That means at minimum there’d be a 3 year gap in source dragons. I’m guessing LEGO isn’t interested in making the rest, or the first one underperformed. It was recently on sale in the US… With the dragon’s hind legs being the color and texture of rock, I wonder if the dragon can strike a pose disguising it as a tree. That would explain the somewhat awkward wing position shown in this image. Otherwise it’s an odd coloring choice. I’ll have to wait and see how it looks in official images. I’m not super convinced by the new dragon forms for the ninja. Maybe it’s the dominance of the secondary colors, I’m not sure. The throwback ZX suits on the other hand are promising - especially with a fun new take on the 2012 hoods.- 794 replies

I could easily see the green tentacle minifigure as the poison monster, leaving the serpentine in some yet-to-be-leaked set. So far there lists sound very generous, but it’s surprising that neither Wyldfyre nor Ras is in any of the sets (so far) and Arin and Sora only appear once each. I’m assuming at least one of them will be in the Riyu set, but who knows. I’d like if the new ninja got more of a focus. And I’d certainly prefer them to get dragon suits too.- 794 replies

I know there’s almost no chance of ever getting a dark fortress remake, but wouldn’t that be so cool? The original set was one of my favorites in 2011, but its building techniques and size leave a lot to be desired. Imagine a huge remake with a full interior, rising drawbridge, and more accurate skeleton spider. Maybe I’ll have to moc my own someday.- 794 replies

I think I’m just in denial that SotFS was that long ago! You’re right, this does have the potential to be really large and detailed. I’m excited to see another large mech after Cole’s, even if I’d prefer a different character to get one. I would welcome an Akita minifigure, but I don’t want to get my hopes up. For now, I’ll assume just one mech pilot Lloyd and maybe an anniversary fig.- 794 replies

71860 is apparently an anniversary Lloyd’s Titan Mech with 1293 pieces. This seems like an odd choice, since 1) The original set isn’t all that old 2) It’ll be hard to top and 3) Nya and Kai still haven’t gotten a first Titan Mech. I’m hoping it’ll at least be different enough from the original to stand out. Maybe with some of the articulation included in Cole’s. I’d also like to see more than one minifigure, maybe a character from the Ice Chapter.- 794 replies

We don’t have any details for the set other than the supposed name and piece count. The latter points towards a city expansion, but the name doesn’t follow the conventions we’re used to. It could be preliminary and actually called Ninjago City Old Town or something like that. Or it could be a standalone set similar to Tournament Temple City.- 794 replies

I’ve been thinking about the anniversary minifigs, and here are my leading thoughts: Option 1: Some sort of metallic figs again. Maybe additional golden characters (although I admit that I can’t think of any beyond Garmadon, PIXAL, and maybe Pythor) or silver versions of the 6 ninja. I’d also like gold versions of iconic villains in general. Option 2: 2011 throwback minifigs, a la Star Wars 2019. It seems likely these will at least appear in the blacksmith shop, but I wouldn’t be very excited by a full line-up. Option 3: Missing characters or variants from the show. Star Wars did this recently, but they have many more characters to draw from. I’m not sure if kids would be super excited about Dr. Julien or Zane wearing an apron. Option 4: Missing variants of each ninja (as in, suits that exist in the flesh for other characters). Think ZX Nya, 2011 Lloyd, Prime Empire Zane, etc. I don’t see this as a realistic option, especially since they’d have to pull out a pretty obscure suit for Kai, such as Legacy 3 or the future gi from Possession. I think fans would love this, I just don’t see them bringing back old parts just for this kind of lineup. What do y'all think? Do any of these feel at all likely? What am I missing?- 794 replies

It’s definitely a cool looking piece. Even though I’m once again frustrated to see a lack of eye printing, I’m glad it fits in with the design of the recent serpentine factions without being too repetitive. Hoping for snake tails to match these ones. Fateful did say “Serpentine Generals” which I feel like implies tails.- 794 replies
