GeoBrick Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Now let's hope they come out in some Insiders Program set... Quote

I imagine him to be some sort of Blacktron commander or officer. Quote

What's really cool is you can mix parts with two regular Blacktron figs so that each has a Blacktron symbol somewhere. I really like the subtlety of it. It's not a huge departure from Blacktron 1 designs, maintaining the overall uniform design but adding a touch of the iconography used on the ships. And as you say, it's something you can potentially mix and match with other Blacktron figs to add some variety. Despite its vaguely militaristic aesthetic Blacktron 1 never really had any leadership outside of the Jim Spaceborn books, so personally I feel like this design would work well for a "commander" or "captain" of sorts (similar to unique designs for figs in later space themes like Space Police 2 or Ice Planet) Edited September 19 by Lyichir Quote
Swordy Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I don’t know, the print on the legs makes the design too bright in my eyes. Maybe if the white kneepads were just the outline instead of a whole white block? I also dislike the choice of metallic gold for the printed Blacktron logo; when in doubt, classic yellow is always the way to go. If it’s a commander, I would’ve liked to have seen epaulets or a rank badge printed on him. That would’ve helped him feel less like an overly-detailed revamp. Just my two-cents, of course. Quote

I am wondering if it just turned out to be something else, or if there is a chance we will still get it this year. Personally I still have some some Sets I want to buy that are going to retire this year, but so far there wasn´t really any GWP I was interested in. They didn´t even use the chance and used the existing Wolfpack minifigure to make a Wolfpack Renegades GWP. And so far rumours of future GWP aren´t really promissing either. Quote

I can kinda see that, it leans a little too far away from the minimalist nature of 70s-80s Space that Blacktron thrived in. I think splitting the three parts amongst regular Blacktron figures like suggested around the forum works better 6 minutes ago, Black Falcon said: Are there any news or rumours on this? We don´t really know if the Renegade sold well. It is likely a set that had high sales when it was released but also sales dropped afterewards, because most people that wanted it, bought it within the first three months. Anyways, so far I would be happy about any Space/Castle GWP we would still get - though better sooner or later, who knows which sets will still be avaiable on insiders days. Quote
Lion King Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Wait, what are we talking about? Are we having a Blacktron I set next year or is it a GWP? Quote

The post quoted is from last year and the Blacktron Set mentioned is the Renegade. If we still get a Blacktron 2 GWP* is uncertain, could be for Insiders day, could be that it turned out to be something else (just remember the Pharell Williams Spaceship ;)) or that it isn´t coming at all. *at this point if it still comes, it seems unlikely to be a (buyable) Set as we probably would have heard about that already, so I think it is either a GWP, or just not coming, at least this year. I think there are builds that resonate with some AFOLs and nobody else. There are other Space themes and builds that will be popular beyond these people, and I hope Lego realizes that! Some builds may only have some appeal to those who experienced them in their childhood. Quote

Well I wouldn't say noone else, but surely that will be a big part of the people that buy it and that is why I think that those kind of sets might have high initial sales but they drop after the first few months. So overall sales might still be good and there could be more sets like this coming. Quote

danth Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I still maintain the new Blacktron Renegade is not a good set. It doesn't have the visual coolness factor of the original. It could have, and should have. But it's just nowhere near as good as the new Galaxy Explorer. So I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't sell, despite Blacktron being a beloved classic theme. I think even Lego knew it kinda sucked, which is why no pics ever leaked (until like the same day as the official reveal), and...well, they took other actions that were designed to quell criticisms of the set, but I'll get attacked for mentioning them. We will never see a set everyone likes - and well for the sales we will never know of course, but at least at the retailer that got the exclusive here it was sold out when they had it for 20% off. 2 hours ago, danth said: I think even Lego knew it kinda sucked, which is why no pics ever leaked (until like the same day as the official reveal), and...well, they took other actions that were designed to quell criticisms of the set, but I'll get attacked for mentioning them. Well, first of all, Lego isn´t leaking stuff, leakers do . Secondly, leaks on the same day as the release or the day before aren´t that uncommon (and honestly, I would rather wait for the real pics instead on some blury pics, but well). And well, the Galaxy Explorer didn´t had leaked images at all as far as I remember, so based on your logic, it would be worse then? Quote

Tehcanically, the Pharrell rumor was roughly one year before its release in October 2024. You didn’t know what “black spaceship” was supposed to be… But I’m glad we got Blacktron spaceship following the awful Pharrell ship. Quote
SpacePolice89 Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Today I visited a Prisma supermarket in Kyrkslätt, Finland and I was surprised to see a Renegade on the shelf and it appears to be very popular because it was only one left on the shelf. It is also available from their website. I thought it was a Lego exclusive set. https://www.prisma.fi/tuotteet/111034421/lego-icons-10355-blacktron-renegade-avaruusaluksen-rakennussetti-111034421 Quote

Artanis I Posted October 2 Posted October 2 It's listed on S@H as retiring soon. I think it flopped, it's only about 9 months old. Quote
GeoBrick Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Still, I'm happy LEGO made the effort. I ended up with 2 copies, a PAB haul of the printed elements that came with the set and a couple extra Blacktron torso's. Quote
RichardGoring Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Not every set needs to be wildly successful on it's own. Sets like this keep AFOLs happy and focused on LEGO, rather than exploring other brands or hobbies. A short lifespan doesn't mean it still won't be viewed as a success if customers stay loyal, and they can track that through Insider points and manual scanning. Quote
danth Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) 6 hours ago, Artanis I said: I think it flopped, it's only about 9 months old. If they only planned to make a certain number of sets, "retiring" could just mean they've sold most of the sets. But it certainly could have flopped, and if it did, I maintain that it is the fault of the poor set execution. This set was not the grand slam of design that the Galaxy Explorer was. It was actually exceedingly poor for an Icons set. It's not worth arguing over, because if someone can't tell from looking at it, no argument will be convincing. Edited October 2 by danth Quote
