It has been suggested before and would fit well, but in that case I‘d be a bit miffed about the whole „returning theme“ rumour. vizzitor Posted Wednesday at 02:13 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:13 PM I suppose, yeah. Although it's Portal 2's 15th anniversary in April, which I refuse to believe! Quote

But which theme would return with nothing but an 18+ set? This fits neither SpongeBob, ATLA, nor TMNT. I wouldn’t rule them out – all of them have been around long enough that they’ve got a solid stable of adult fans. Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh both got larger sets than you’d expect from their target audiences too. They were both Ideas sets, but the point stands that Lego knows they can sell $100+ standalone sets of a kid friendly IP. The Ideas submissions for ATLA, for instance, often feature fairly sizable buildable Appas and half a dozen minifigs — probably already pushing the ‘P’ price tag, and if you add a side build… Likewise, a well done Krusty Krab could easily make the $160 range. Admittedly, my experience with TMNT is almost exclusively through seeing commercials for the toys as a kid, but I remember enough to know you could easily throw together an appropriately priced set for them, especially since it would need to be even more minifigure heavy than the other two. jonwil Posted Thursday at 03:19 AM Posted Thursday at 03:19 AM I could easily see an 18+ Krusty Krab set similar to the Krusty Burger in size/price point/etc (although obviously differently shaped) Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted Thursday at 01:49 PM Posted Thursday at 01:49 PM I don’t think it makes sense to open a separate thread for it, so I’ll put it here The Project Hail Mary set has just leaked! Looks good! Quote

BrickBob Studpants Posted Thursday at 02:22 PM Posted Thursday at 02:22 PM And it’s been officially revealed now too! Well that was a short-lived leak Quote

I feel like Portal is enough of a classic that it could happen, but I do agree it seems a little more likely to be something more relevant. Quote

If Stonewars were correct with classifying it as a gaming theme, the only options are Overwatch, Pac-Man, or Atari, but the latter two had Icons sets before, which wouldn‘t fit with the set number, and the former has no chance of returning amidst all the controversies. People have also suggested Horizon, apparently forgetting the last set came out less than a year ago This makes me think Stonewars were mistaken and it‘s not a gaming IP after all. But which theme would return with nothing but an 18+ set? This fits neither SpongeBob, ATLA, nor TMNT. Complete tinfoil hat and unlikely theory, but maybe Tron? It had one previous set with the ideas set, has marginal modern relevance with a (admittedly pretty poor) film released last year, is receiving a bit of a merch push with a 1/12 Hasbro line at some point this year based on Legacy, could fit the price range with either an upscaled lightcycle or a minifig scaled recogniser, AND could explain the gaming confusion since the film takes place inside a game... Yeah that'll never happen, but it'd be nice if we finally got the rest of the Tron Legacy cast from Lego! Quote

Any of the these 3 cartoon themes could easily get an 18+ set, but that’s not my point ^^ My point is it’s unlikely they would only get an 18+ set and nothing else (besides BrickHeadz perhaps). Sure, other themes that had playsets in the past have returned with 18+ sets and little else, like LotR and PotC, but I can’t imagine SpongeBob or ATLA going down the same route. A wave of regular playsets for kids and an 18+ set for millennials would make way more sense! Quote
Lion King Posted Friday at 01:25 PM Posted Friday at 01:25 PM I would LOVE to see new licensed theme or sets based on Studio Ghibhli. CMF would be great. Quote

All three of those have active media aimed at children, so both playsets and an 18+ set would make sense. Quote

A wave of regular playsets for kids and an 18+ set for millennials would make way more sense! I actually could see ATLA at least starting out with just the one 18+ set. Unlike Spongebob, ATLA's had a much more difficult time staying popular with kids, I could 100% see lego deciding that a 18+ Appa with the main cast would be the way to go to start out. 3 hours ago, Siroco said: Agreed! I don't know how popular they are among kids here, but they're certainly beloved enough by plenty of adults. If you're suggesting a line of playsets I don't know that they would do well, but a line of 18+ or an Icons subline would both do just fine. Quote

Lion King Posted Saturday at 12:17 AM Posted Saturday at 12:17 AM I wonder if we would see Persona video game would have their standalone sets somedays? Like LeBranc Cafe or Mementos from Persona 5? This is my dream…. Of course, it’s for young adults so this one is not likely. Quote
