I’m not sure if this has been answered or not but is there any truth to the rumour of LOTR discontinuing after this year due to the sets leaking early constantly.

Where did you hear this? The only rumors I know of are about next year's set which could be (or not) a new Helm's Deep... I also doubt that the leaks, as frustrating as they may be for Lego, could result in the theme discontinuing. The only thing which really matters to them is sales, and as far as I know they have been rather good.

That was an April Fool’s prank

For context: Carter_bricks made a huge post on April 1st that was a mixture of obviously fake info (like LOTR being discontinued over leaks) and more plausible bits. Carter_bricks implied there could be some real stuff hidden in there, but most of it is clearly meant as a joke :snicker:

Sounds like fake news too me:sceptic: Why would the licenseholder care about leaks from movies that are over 20 years old. Probably more problematic for Lego, with fake Lego companies making copies of the set. I am sure the sales will determine the future of the line like everything else and pretty sure this years set will sell very well:wink:

I don´t actually think and fake company will start producing the set based on leaked pictures, they will wait till they can copy the parts list and instructions 1 to 1, everything else would be to much effort for them.

Is that April Fool’s post summarised anywhere by any chance? I should really get Instagram.

Blown away by how good Minas Tirith looks, but I just don’t have the space for it otherwise it’d be a day one buy.

As much as people complain about the price, I think the LOTR sets sell well.

They do sell out temporarily on release, and I doubt that it is only because of the GWP. (Rivendell had a non exclusive one).

Also, sets like Rivendell has been extended several times, no?

Lego would be foolish to discontinue the line given how well most of the sets sell.

I can summarise it here:

  • LOTR being cancelled because of the constant leaks
  • Dune getting another set (sandworm diorama)
  • The $100 M&G set being a buildable Din atop an AT-RT
  • The $70 June set being the Vader maxifig
  • Embo and Marrok being in a set
  • The Mando minifig in the @@ being a spoiler
  • The Bespin Duel set being holiday-themed with an “I am your father” Xmas sweater
  • Mando and Grogu mechs
  • The Pokéball coming with Red, Blue, Prof Oak, Pikachu, Eevee, and the Kanto starters
  • A Browt set
  • A Master Sword set
  • A Highland cow Icons set
  • An Art set based on the Girl with a Pearl Earring
  • Mr Incredible’s car coming as a SC set in 2027
  • Woody and Buzz as buildable figures à la Iron Man
  • Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter getting sets
  • Fortnite CMF in January
  • A new Halo theme
  • A comic-based Murdock & Nelson modular building
  • Modular Baxter building
  • Another Batmobile
  • A power star Insiders reward
  • Sandy being included in the upcoming SpongeBob set
  • An Appa set with minifigs plus ATLA BrickHeadz
  • Toa Mata buildable figure
  • More Happy Plants
  • The Punisher not being included in the BND sets, but Tombstone and Sadie Sink’s character are
  • Nightcrawler, Mystique, Human Torch, and shirtless Thing coming in Doomsday sets
  • A list of Doomsday sets
  • The Godzilla Ideas set being this year’s Black Friday set and incorporating elements from multiple versions
  • The Winter Village set being another toy shop
  • LA in the style of the recent Paris set

As you can tell, most of them are obviously made-up for this prank, but other bits could easily be true!

I could honestly say for a few sets that they are fake, some are quite likely or already confirmed by now but I couldn´t tell for most of them whether they are true or not.

None of it is correct so far. The maxifig Vader has a different set number and Sadie Sink’s character is not included in the BND sets :snicker: Maybe what carter_bricks meant is that some of these could accidentally be correct, not that some real info was hidden in there on purpose.

While it's great to get a GWP, I hope that they make a huge number of them, because the last few exclusive GWPs have sold out far too quickly that it's ludicrous. The Pokemon one was gone within 24 hours - for a $650 set. The Stranger things one within 12 hours for a $300 set. I actually tried to get the Stranger Things one the evening it was released - the first chance I had, as I was on a long journey travelling home - and it was gone. Incredibly frustrating at the time, but I still haven't bought the set and don't think I will because of the sour taste it left.

Anyway, I hope they do better this time. If they are to go down the stupid route of having exclusive GWPs, then they should at least make enough to last for most of the promotional period. Especially when it's an integral part of the location/scene.

If there is a couple of exclusive orcs in the GWP, that would be very expensive on the after marked I think, but who are willing to sell that if they are fans of the theme

Now we know the next LOTR set and GWP... it's time to speculate on the next set.

I wonder if Lego would make a big set next year, or they will trickle some smaller sets leading up to another year with a big set?

I don’t see a reason for them to shift to playsets after 4 years. Their strategy has clearly been successful  The only thing I could see them do is more Icons sets like helmets, dioramas, and book nooks in addition to the yearly big set ^^

That’s really kind of you to summarise it all, thanks so much :sweet: There are some really cool ideas in here which makes it all the more cruel to ponder which ones may or may not be true!

At this point, I think it’s futile to expect playsets on LotR, but I do think expanding to dioramas / more book nooks would be greatly appreciated. The big sets clearly sell well enough that they’ll keep that model going, but it’d be nice to throw a bone to people who may not necessarily have the space to collect all the big sets. I’ve been tempted to buy all of them and leave the ‘when’ of building them as a topic for the future though…

The Grond GWP makes a lot of sense, makes sense just to include two orcs alongside it!

I didn't like the Star Wars dioramas because they were about 2-4 times the price a playset for the same scene ought to have been, but if playsets aren't an option for LotR I would welcome dioramas as a relatively inexpensive way to get characters in relatively small scenes. Well, small compared to Rivendell, Barad-dur, Bag End, and Minas Tirith, anyway.

This has already been done a lot in previous posts. My personal wish would be (in order of preference) Edoras, Lothlorien, Argonath and Grey Havens. But I think there is a higher probability for a new Helm's Deep (which I may consider if it is a significant improvement over the old one).

Not that I wasn't buying Minas Tirith Day 1 anyway, but Grond GWP just ensured it. :D If we get new Helm's Deep I hope it includes Galadhrim elf helmet mold.

Helm’s Derp

Nice typo. :D Even though I think now it's just matter of time, it's unbelievable we still haven't got Witch King (but we have two Mouths of Sauron now).

Right?? I’m never gonna complain about getting more obscure characters (or characters from deleted scenes), but it’s kinda ridiculous when you simultaneously have glaring omissions like this

The Witch-King is my absolute top pick for missing LotR characters, or in this case variants (since we got his ghostly form in a Hobbit set and we can always pretend one of the Nazgûl was him).

I’m pretty sure we’ll get his RotK version sooner or later, either in a Pelennor Fields set (e.g., a diorama depicting the duel between him and Eowyn) or a helmet now that they come with minifigs.

I think aside from the helmet a display set with Eowyn , the fell beast and the witch king seems the most likely, while a big set for the fields seems unlikely, more likely they would make a second Display set another year with a  Mûmak together with Legolas and Gimli for another Display piece - else I think it would end up beeing to big.
