Series 14 was still pretty early in terms of animals: we weren’t really seeing the consistency we have seen in recent years from CMFs, plus this was the first ‘themed’ series - and that black cat was (and arguably still is) a pretty big deal on its own!

Series 18 gave us a new and so-far exclusive mouse, an exclusive recolour of the fish, a black spider reuse, and two different coloured balloon dogs. Where we see CMFs featuring ‘stand in’ or ‘pretend’ animals, such as plush toys, piñata etc. we often usually see less *real* animals.

Though I have no use for them, the robo dog and space penguin in Series 26 were unexpected, and the same is true of the various Spidey-fied animals coming in the Spiderverse series. To me that speaks more to the normalisation of animal accessories in CMFs overall.

I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but I’m cautiously optimistic for the Animal series

PS _ this is also where that challenge I set a while back to name the twelve animals to come in a Lego CMF where they’d be the last ever, comes into its own ;)

Ah I totally forgot about that mouse mold from Series 18! Although I won’t count recolor IG as “new”, you have a valid point.  We sitll don’t know if it’s acutally Aniamls or Animal Costumes series.

Ah, I remember tht challenge! …..you know something that we don’t know?

That’s my assumption too. I’d also bet on either the new fox or the pigeon, or another animal that has shown up only once in CMFs to get a revisit in this series. Recoloured mouse or flamingo?

I'd be delighted for both to come back. Coral flamingo and grey mouse would be great. In fact, I'd take just a repeat of the original mouse to be honest.

There are a few other browns they could use too. It’s heckin’ cute that wee moose

Maybe the mouse can show up with the cat costume character …

Tom and Jerry time then.

Curses @ that BUKABRICKS blog, now my list of animals I don’t have that I *need* to complete the collection has just grown by a few 🙀

I demand compensation. Either off @Roebuck or whoever at Lego sees fit to produce almost-identical animal variants

I'm ashamed to admit I had no knowledge of this thread, but proud that my blog is mentioned here. Thank you for that. I'm taking the curses as a compliment, by the way :))

It’s definitely how they were intended ;)

If the trends we saw with other themed series continues I think we can expect to see things like zookeepers and marine biologists who come with animals in addition to the known animal costumes.

Something I’d really like to see is perhaps a minifig based on the real life conservationists who have brought endangered species back from the brink of extinction. Whooping cranes are probably one of the most well known instances of this, but I’ve seen condor hand puppets and pictures of juvenile giant panda caretakers doing it too.

No need to be ashamed, better late than never  Welcome to the jungle

Yes to this idea. Maybe a Charles Darwin figure is most likely though - with a giant tortoise?

A possibility no one seems to have brought up yet is anthropomorphic animal characters. Thanks to Animal Crossing they have a lot of head molds to play with.

I mean, that’s kinda what I was suggesting with something like a boxing kangaroo, or maybe a foray into fantasy animals. I can imagine a minifig version of a Kelpie or a Manticore for example. I still think this will be a series that gives us a mix of things to a broad theme though … but we are all just speculating on very little info!

Since the Space series had a Greek mythology connection with the Orion minifig, why not an Egyptian god or goddess since many of them have animal heads? I’d dig an Anubis or a Sekhmet personally.

Hahahaha, thank you both. I'm not sure I'm the one to do that, but there are no words to describe the happiness I'm feeling right now, knowing there's a whole thread about animals that has been going for 200+ pages. It feels like home here.

Nice. Anubis crossed my mind as a possibility here too! That Anubis guard figure from Pharaoh’s Quest all those years ago was awesome, but very rare.

Would definitely be one of the highlights of the series, if we would get this. Wouldn´t mind if we would get more in regular series too, like Horus, Bastet, Khnum, Sobek etc.

Even if this goes the worst way and all are costumes we should get a couple of new animals right:def_shrug: 2 are a long way from 12+ off course, but better than nothing🙈

I guess so, honestly though - I’m just trying not to get my hopes up too much…

I can understand why you are very hopeful for animal molds in Series 28 but i never expected to see animal molds in any non-licensed and licensed series. That said, my exepecations  for animal molds are very low so I won’t be disappointed.

I know it’s highly unlikely that they do it but I always want to see saber-toothed tiger cub, woolly mammoth calf, unicorn foal, griffin cub/chick, etc. Ah well….I keep dreaming.

The ‘Space’ series included a realistic astronaut, retro takes on a spacewoman and robot, more modern takes on androids and aliens, two different versions of the ‘aliens disguised as human’ trope, several throwbacks to old themes, a constellation based on mythology, and a presumably normal guy in a fly saucer costume.

Given that, the ‘Animal’ series including prehistoric and fantasy animals doesn’t seem like a crazy stretch. Especially since the last three normal series have included dinosaur costumes (we’re due for a brachiosaurus). I’d also love to see a new paleontologist, since the one in series 13 came out a decade ago now and there’s a lot you could do with that archetype.

We’ve also gotten two examples of Castle faction members with their faction emblem as an animal companion in the past few years - the Black Falcon falconer and Wolfpack beastmaster. Given that a new griffin faction just got introduced in the Ideas minifigure vending machine, some member of that faction with a griffin chick would be completely crazy. Although given current circumstances, someone from the same faction as the series 20 tournament knight (raven emblem) might be more likely.

This is what I want more than anything. So it won't happen.

Personally, I think the Animal Crossing molds are too stylized for general use. The old Chima molds were a little better, but I just want some good, generic animal heads. They would be useful in so many genres. Basically, anything sci-fi or fantasy (TMNT, Red Wall, D&D, etc) can use anthropomorphic animals. And peaceful settings like Fabuland, of course.

We're getting 2 "new" animals with the Spider-verse series, so I think if the new series is animals, even if costumed, we'll get some animals. Maybe not brand-new, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Lately a lot of animals have been appearing in CMFs first and jumping to the sets later if they're lucky.

We are getting a unicorn foal, so your dream doesn't seem that far off. CMFs are the perfect place to introduce figures & animals that don't exactly fit, aren't they? Besides, the explorers already found a mammoth and a saber-toothed tiger, and they're in the Arctic again. If they won't come with CMFs, they may appear in some explorer sets in the coming years, I think.

Ohhh, I thought it was unicorn adult with two Pegasus foals in Unicorn Castle set? My bad.

CMFs are well known for mixture of figures. I have seen caveman and cavewomen but no prehistoric creatures. I have seen dino hunter but no dino baby (I’m not counting Rex Dangervest from TLM@ Seires because it’s a technically licensed series). Space Series recently introduced us robot dog and space penguin  - it’s the only series that doens’t include realistic / extranet animals.

But yes, prehistoric / fantasty creatures might not fit in new blind boxes. I just feel they might to squeeze saber-toothed tiger cub (like an existing lion cub with new fangs). Dunno about elephant calf from 2021 -  rethe size of woolly mammoth calf might be small but too thick. If they are too big for CMF, City theme would be perfect.

Yeah, saber-toothed tiger cub seems to be the only one that would fit in the box. I'd love to have some baby dinos in CMFs, but that seems highly unlikely since Jurassic World sets seem to be dominating everything dino-related (and yes, I agree Rex doesn't count). Maybe they can squeeze in a Dodo?
