Unfortunately it does not work. It is not possible to klick with the right mouse button and select "open graphic in a new tab". Actually none of the options work, so I guess google blocks them.

I will give two examples. The first one is a picture I uploaded to directupload. (I also used to use imgur, but that got blocked in the UK recently because of the UK Online Safety Act or so. So people in the UK can not see any of the pictures uploaded to imgur.)

I created two screenshots. I uploaded a picture to directupload and the link to the picture they generate ends with .htm

When I paste this link to my EB post, there would be just the link shown but no picture, like in your google image.

h4mcd9b3.jpg

So now I would klick on the picture with my right mouse button and select the option "open graphic in new tab" and the browser opens a new tab where just the picture is shown.

You can see that the address ends with .jpg now. Now I can copy the link and add it to my EB forum post and the picture will be shown automatically.

I am using firefox, so in other browsers the different options might have slightly different names.

With this method I can also try to find the (correct) link to images from other websites. (Generally you can add the link to most images, but not all. I guess it depends on how the websites are coded but I have zero knowledge about that.)

But one thing is fore sure, if the image is not automatically shown in your forum post immediately after adding it, it is the wrong link (or a link the forum can not handle).

Here's an example from the official Lego page that I can add to my post:

@Yperio_Bricks  Thank you so much for such a clear and concise explanation.

So I have to find somewhere other than Google drive to store photos out on the internet, somewhere that returns a link with filename.jpg when the image is opened in a new tab.

I see on many posts people say use Brickshelf or Bricksafe, unfortunately they have not been accepting new registrations since 2020 to my certain knowledge which has added to my uncertainty, also I have read on here that Flicker are getting restrictive about how one uses their site.

I will take a look at the Directupload.eu site you show in your examples, once again thank you so much for laying it out so clearly for me

My pleasure!

I too use flickr to share my mocs. flickr is free and allows you to upload 1000 pictures for free. There are also many Lego-related groups on flickr, where you can share your pictures and connect with other Lego builders. Generally I would say that I use flickr to browse and look at other peoples creations and to share the "good" pictures of my mocs. Imgur or directupload I use to share pictures that I quickly want to show in a forum but that are not important enough to keep on my flickr site. flickr is also able to automatically create links that do actually work for Eurobricks forum posts!

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask!

Also thanks @Yperio_Bricks - unfortunately picture hosting is no easy topic nowadays.. But you are right, bricksafe as well as Brickshelf to not allow new registrations since some time. I know flickr is working as well, but not sure of their plans and if any free ones would suffice..

Ah ok @Yperio_Bricks also just clarified on their free plan.. :pir-huzzah2:

Didn't someone present their new Lego only picture sharing website here on Eurobricks a month or two ago? I have tried to look for it but I can't find that post again. Do you remember it?

There was such a post but I don't remember neither where exactly it was posted. I would recommend flickr because of the many people that use it and the Lego related groups.

When I read Lego news blogs, forums etc, there are basically only two sites that matter imo. Instagram or flickr. I don't use Instagram, so flickr it is for me.

I had an old Bricksafe account as a Backup for my Brickshelf account which was my primary account for images until the very end. Now I have completely transitioned to Bricksafe. Thanks for the information. I will continue to look for that post because I will maybe create a new backup account somewhere outside Bricksafe.

One last query purely out of interest:

Back when I first tried posting images in 2021 my brother had previously made my business a very basic website, I really wasn't very interested in it for the business (ungrateful swine that I am) but since I was paying for hosting space got him to load the lego images to the web server. for me.

I pasted the following link format into the post:

www.companyname.co.uk/filename.jpg

It showed fine in the practise forum but when posted for real, some could see it and some not, seemed to depend on the browser the reader was using, did this happen because I had omitted the http(s):// prefix?

Bruv couldn't sort it for me as we lost him shortly after and I've been fighting the same illness since 2020, just so you know why I'm asking my dumb questions here!

Good to know!

Thanks again all, for holding my hand through something that turns out to be so simple.

Flickr account made and being loaded!  Shied away in past as  I know less about photography than IT if that's possible

Now that you have made a flickr account and want to share a picture that you have uploaded, you simply go to the picture, klick on the small arrow in the bottom right corner and then select "share" (in my case it says "Teilen" in German) and then simply copy the shown link and paste it to your EB post and the picture will be added automatically.

Ah - that's quicker than the right click thing - thank you again.  I am slightly lacking understanding again though, the link produced by Flickr this way doesn't seem to have the /filename.extension format I thought was required, just some sort of code (to my eyes much like the Google drive link that doesn't work), I'm not doubting you just :def_shrug: maybe I should just stop concerning myself!

Image size - do you only take/make/upload images of the correct resolution? If not, I assume this method uploads the native resolution which may be too large for EB?

Since I can't find what my phone produces and Flickr seems to keep it a secret, I've been hitting Enlarge to right of Share - View all sizes -  then choosing a suitable size - right clicking image into new tab then copy and pasting the URL.  All of which is soooo much longer than your Share tip.

I tried my first post this evening so I wait with baited breath to see if it worked (seemed to at my end).

That's one of the exeptions I mentioned. I guess it depends on how the websites are coded but that's just a wild guess. But you can try adding a picture with the auto-generated flickr link when you edit a EB post, if the picture is shown immediately it works.

I take all pictures as is. I think all pictures are automatically resized when they are too large when posted at EB. There is maximum width of 1024 or so? I rarely use my mobile to access EB, if ever, so I don't even remember how EB looks on the phone

If a picture is too large or would obstruct the writing too much and you want to change the size of the picture in your EB post, you simply can double klick on the picture (while writing the post) and then enter the size you want.

That method also works. This is actually the method I have to use in an other forum so the pictures are shown correctly and not distorted  Every website has its own little problems

Just choose the one method you are comfortable with or that works best in a given situation

Yes, in our rules there is the 1024px limit mentioned. Additionally we have created a HTML/CSS rule to enforce this limit to any images of postings as second layer of security - for cases somebody may have posted huger dimension pictures by accident. :pir_laugh2:

So many happy little accidents - Bob Ross would be proud of me  Just kiddin', I am such a slow moccer, I didn't post too many oversized pictures in recent years

But while we are at it I have a question. In the past, when checking a user's profile it was possible to see all? of the users posts. Now it seems to show only the posts of the last 2 or 3 days.

I have been experiencing a bug on my profile activity tab and all activity tab.

I recently started a new topic "[MOCs] New J. R. Snotly Builds 12/18/25 (includes: X-Wing, Luke's Landspeeder, LAAT, STAP)" but it only shows up when clicking on "see activity" then either "posts" or "topics". It doesn't show up under "activity" or under "see activity" then "all activity". It was likely caused by me trying to edit the new topic immediately after posting it (I was so fast I had to wait 10 seconds before being allowed to post my edit). I have since tried editing the post to see if that would change anything. It does make the topic appear on my profile for a few minutes but then when I recheck later it has disappeared again. To fix it might require an admin to delete the post and for me to start over.

I care about this because I don't think people will see my topic (which feature mocs) unless it is naturally displayed on my profile.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

according to @aFrInaTi0n in another topic, it's a known bug with the activity feed and everyone is having that issue. Also, virtually nobody visits profiles to read about MOC's AFAIK - they visit profiles to follow other users. You have posted the thread in it's proper place of the SW forum (I checked, and it is visible there) so you've done good so far. People will see your MOC's (96 people have so far!) and most users don't comment on anything so don't feel like a failure or something if you get no comments. I hope this info helps @jrs.

@jrs I can reproduce, but I do not yet know the reasons for that oddity happening - may be worth a bug-request for the vendor. But I reckon this bug is not considered highly critical, right? Asking as I would like to dig and read around a bit more on my own, before asking the vendor for support.

The Technic subforum's light theme broke for me today, a lot of white-on-white text.  The Dark theme's text is too dark for me to comfortably read in a lot of spots, but I don't normally use it so I can't say whether it changed.

Sometimes the Invision software is rerendering the cache files for themes, this happens in scheduled ways - unfortunately this can't be changed and if one gets this, it may be gone within the next 5-10 seconds. I had that myself already several times, me being shocked as hell like "wtf happening here suddenly?!" - but fixed itself also.. :D

How about the internal server error (error 500) messages? I just got another one of those, that makes three in five minutes.
