Hello from a *FFOL in the UK (*family fan)

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone -

I am one of a family of lego fans, 2 adults and 1 kid, currently hanging out in the UK. Between trips to Legoland and art shows, we like multiple sets/themes and ways to play. Hubby enjoys the Star Wars sets, as well as the throwback TV/movie sets (Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future). Kid loves the superhero line and the Marvel stuff, but came to Lego as a massive fan of the Lego Movie. He's got a tremendous speech delay and he knows all Emmet's lines, if that shows you how big a fan he is.

My name is Kwee and I've been a Lego fan in waves. First wave when I was 8-12, I kept all my legos in a plastic rubbish bin. Didn't build sets, just built houses with my sister. After college and securing my first job, I invested a ton in the collectors edition Star Wars stuff that came out in 2002-2003. Built all those, but didn't realize the value and sold them when I started dating my husband and couldn't move all the sets into the tiny apartment we shared.

Once the kid got into Legos a few years ago, we all got back into it. My main focus is building my own town, specifically one that resembles London. I have most of the modulars, except the first few released, a high speed train and some city sets that I commandeered from the kid, Tower Bridge, and I'm actively buying/building from some of the MOC designers on eBay/websites, etc.!!! I am too chicken/uncreative to design my own MOCs, but I am happy to support other MOC builders by paying for instructions. There are some very talented people out there. I'm holding off on setting anything up for my town until we move next year. Right now I am just in the collecting phase, getting designs, sorting out parts, bulk buying, and other fun things.

Things I am researching: how to convert the ferris wheel set into the London Eye (or something similar), a better plan for a London red bus, as well as how to make an underground train station for the high speed train with an above-ground city. I will also be interested to see if the larger scale Big Ben set will actually be released or whether that is a rumor.

I hope to learn a lot from everyone here to turn Lego into more than just a hobby this go-round!
