  1. Hello again everyone Following on from my Snowspeeder post a few weeks back I realised I had neglected to build the Rebel Transport from Empire Strikes Back. So I decided to rectify that. There are no really tricky elements to this build. It does switch from 2 to 3 studs at the bottom using the new 2x3 jumper plates. This then allows the 5-stud wide main body to get the shape at the front. It is not as round at the front as it should be but you can’t always do everything in this scale and you have to approximate. It also uses the old finger hinge plates to attach the side “panels”. It would have needed a 1 plate high gap between the clip/hinge and the main body to use clips or the clicky hinges so sometimes old is better! Hope you like it Jon
  2. As beautiful as it is, not everyone has either the funds nor the display space for the UCS Star Destroyer. To that end, I offer a highly detailed yet modestly sized alternative that is a modification of an existing set, 75055. This is a model of Vader's Imperial-I class Star Destroyer Devastator as seen in Rogue One and A New Hope, but can also be reconfigured using easily swapable modular parts into an Imperial-II class Star Destroyer as seen in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The original set has had the internal playset removed, a complete ventral hull added with main hangar, detailed engines, and two new command towers. The model has been slightly enlarged to 1/2700 scale and is 23.5" long. The command tower, main batteries, and dorsal axial cannons are modular to convert between versions. The Mk I also has removable waist mounted quad cannons and engine thrust vanes. Completing the model is a display stand and a microscale Tantive IV Corellian Corvette, that while slightly overscale still fits perfectly in the main hangar and can be attached there. I used photos of the original Devastator filming model from A New Hope and the larger Avenger filming model from The Empire Strikes Back as reference. 3. So I've been going through old minifigures from the Star Wars theme and found miifigs like Kit Fisto and Plo Koon. The paint on them isn't there anymore. Any ideas on what to do?
  4. Hey guys, so I really enjoyed making my first micro landscape MOC (Jakku) so I decided to make a really iconic scene from the original trilogy and decided to make a Battle of Hoth MOC on a 16x16 plate. I tried to get all the iconic parts from the film into the MOC. Inspiration from a few various sources and a few twists of my own! The one thing I am aware of is that the snow speeder is completely out of proportion with the scene however I tried to make smaller models and they just didnt look right. Therefore I have tried to give the illusion that the speeder is flying high up above the battle. Im really pleased with how this MOC has turned out and would be great to hear any feedback or advice you guys might have. ps if anyone wants instructions for any of the elements I am more than happy to send across what I have.
  5. Hello there It's been an awfull long time since I posted something over here. This is a custom projects I started years ago and finally finished (more or less, I still have troubles making decent pictures). The main theme is still the same, Duplo duo's. I used supersculpey for Yoda's head and Luke's hairpiece. For Luke's lightsaber I modded an antena with miliputt. At first I gave Yoda a cape, trying to do so in "the spirit" of Lego Duplo, but it didn't work well at all. So I just inspired myself by the minifigure. Hope you like it.
  6. Finally, my Hoth Echo Base diorama is done (currently being exhibited at Brickorea Convention 2018, 15~23 December in Pangyo, S. Korea). I'm a big fan of the original SW trilogy and my favorite one to watch is Ep.V. I love the look of the Echo Base and the Hoth Battle despite the boneheaded strategy put on by the Rebels (apparently hasn't improved through to Ep. VIII). (Photos updated 2018.12.21) This set focuses on the base itself and depicts the time just before the start of the Battle of Hoth. Dimensions: 160(W) x 256(L) Studs To me two of the most important features of the base are the cave entrance/exit (with heavy shield doors) and then the air/space craft bays. I've tried to replicate the shape of the cave and shield door dimensions as close to the studio model as possible. I figure the London studio just was not big enough the fully feature the original desiger's concept, and thus the makers had to squeeze everything into a modified set. Yes the cave entrance/exit is too small for the Millenium Falcon to fit through. That is why in the scene where the Falcon escapes Vader's troops, the Falcon actually shrinks in size via photographic trickery. I was just happy to stick with the actual studio set (and more economical). Although there are no real accurate maps of the base and the surrounding areas, I always figured the approach to the front of the base would be pretty well hidden by the mountainous terrain of Hoth (as Vader's shock troops are supposed to have blasted their way into the top or side of the base). Thus the front of my base is protected by relatively few troopers (as in the film) armed with some MK II Repeating Blasters. There are only a couple of DF.9 Anti-Infantry Turrets and a 1.4 FD P-Tower Anti-Vehicle Laser Cannon guarding the front (my original plan was to build the MOC in two parts: the base itself and a forward Echo Station). My DF.9 Anti-Infantry Turret design was initially featured in '[MOC] Hoth Generator Defense' with the LDD design link. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/117121-moc-hoth-generator-defense/&page=2 [/img] My newest MK II Medium Repeating Blaster uses a black ice cream cone and a spanner wrench. Its LDD will be released in a series along with the rest (LEGO may have come up with a new receiver part for the Overwatch series which might work well). I thought of various places to put the Ion Cannon and finally settled here as I didn't want to fill that side with just lots of bricks :-) The Ion Cannon has an LED bulb embedded. You also see a Viper Probe Droid next to the Ion Cannon. The Probe Droid has lots of new design elements which LDD I'll be happy to share with you soon. A shield/power generator with four disks! Also you see a Rebel Combat Speeder in its AA role. You can find more information about the Combat Speeder below. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/117938-moc-rebel-combat-speeder/ Han Solo returning from a recon mission. I think this is also a signature scene from the movie. Updated 2018.12.21. Now onto my command center. Updated 2018.12.21. There is that Toryn Farr whose popularity I can't quite follow. A little cramped 'Blue Room' but you have to work with what you have. Han Solo and General Rieekan having a discussion. Oh that stare! Your worshipfulness! <An acknowledgement here to Frank Diorio at dioramaworkshop.com for his wonderful command center and other decals which I've adopted here> Although a bit cramped, my command center seems to be quite close to the film set. Medical center which has been done to death. Han Solo: "Alright, don't lose your temper. I'll come right back and give you a hand." Chewbacca: "Grrrrrr!" Updated 2018.12.21. with Jerac's X-Wing Snowspeeder bays follow after actual design changes made to the studio where the base was filmed. Updated 2018.12.21. I thought the shadows over the X-Wings were the essential points. Updated 2018.12.21. You also see three GNK "Gonk" Power Droids to the right. They are really fun designs and I'll release the LDDs soon. Comparison photos. Obligatory mission briefing scene before the sortie. Updated 2018.12.21. Jerac's X-Wing is a perfect match ;-) https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/166523-moc-star-wars-the-x-wing-story/&tab=comments#comment-3017567 YSDWDY's T-47 Airspeeder (Snowspeeder) https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/138237-moc-incom-t-47-airspeeder-snowspeeder/ Also here's my service gantry model which looks good and definitely works.Updated 2018.12.21. One of two Treadwell droid models I know. This also has a nice LDD which I love. The Rebel Troop Carrier is featured in detail below. https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/117121-moc-hoth-generator-defense/&page=2 Miscellaneous: Singing in the Rain trooper. This base features some complex cave networks which cannot be fully shown. It wouldn't be pleasant trying to recover some parts dropped in there! Not the best angle, but this is how a probe droid should look. A 'blue milk' breaktime. Updated 2018.12.21. Updated 2018.12.21. One last shot. Updated 2018.12.21. Well, there you have it. This diorama set has been started in 2011 and finished only last week. That was one long project!! Hopefully now I can go on to something else - only what? ************************************************ <Photos updated 2018.12.21. with lots more goodies>
  7. Hi guys, so I have been very busy recently with my builds! I have a lot to share starting with this recreation of a classic scene. IMG_20161203_151458 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr This build sits on a 12x14 base. I have tried to recreate the weather vane as faithfully to the film. IMG_20161203_135638 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr The Luke mini fig is a custom, which I dont often like using, however the printing work on this figure is outstanding and looks perfect. IMG_20161208_225410 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr I am really happy with the technique to make the bridge and think it works really well. IMG_20161207_145604 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Originally I wasn't going to add a backdrop but I think with just the sense of the walls behind the action it helps set the scene even more. IMG_20161204_194619 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr Anyway I am really happy with how this has turned out, it was a pretty quick build with just bits and pieces I had lying around! As always though I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions and may the force be with you! IMG_20161204_151421 by dimitrinicomanis, on Flickr
  8. Discovering the Battle of Hoth on screen is one of those childhood moments I'll always remember. So my first ever walker MOC had to be the AT-AT from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. And for such an iconic scene, making a diorama-style build was mandatory. At only 19cm (7,4") high, this Midi-Scale AT-AT consists of 924 pieces (1,317 in total with the diorama base & T-47), and is accurately Nanofig-scaled. It features a movable head and fully articulated legs, allowing many different poses. Working at such a compact scale, capturing fine surface detail and smooth, gapless angles for the body required a great deal of unique techniques. My main goal was to make the model feel deceivingly heavy and massive despite its small size, and of course achieve that prop / toy vibe I'm so fond of. The most challenging parts of the AT-AT were definitely the head and legs: the head for its subtle angles and challenging shape, and the legs for proportions, joints, feet, and very slight width differences as you go towards the bottom. Nanofigs (or trophy figs) scale perfectly to both the AT-AT and T-47, which also scale accurately to each other. The diorama base allows the AT-AT feet to be connected in various positions, and can accommodate two flying T-47s. This 358-piece base is optional and comes in a separate parts list, for builders who prefer displaying the model solely (picture 7 in the Flickr album). Parts list also include a string piece that can be easily added to reproduce the harpoon scene (picture 5 in the Flickr album). ► Instructions for the AT-AT are available at BrickVault. More pictures on my Flickr page.
  9. I've started a large project, wish me luck. I'm using a Kenner model as a basis, and I will try to cram as much detail as possible into this creation. I'm working from the bottom up. Please offer any advice or criticisms as you see fit.
  10. hey everyone =) my name's clement, from singapore. i'm very pleased to have the chance to get to know fellow lego fans from all over the world. Lego and Star Wars are my joys from young. Bought so many UCS and haven't actually built them, and then suddenly there was this ridiculous TRU sale in one of the malls, and so I bought a few of the mini SW ships and had a go. After that, it was no turning back, and I have been building day and night, much to the irritation of the other half... lol The Imperial Probe droid to me, is one of the coolest ever created in the entire series. It set the tone for the dark ESB chapter, and the scene of the droid emerging from the crash, legs dangling and head spinning menancingly still holds me in awe till this day. But I just thought it doesn't get enough attention, and so I set out to build my own. =) The final lego droid is made up of 550++ pieces and stands about 40cm tall (including base). Here it is, placed next to a 12inch "SIDESHOW" battle droid, for scale comparison. Here's another angle, next to a full size stormtrooper, for scale comparison as well lol The toughest challenge in this project, has to be that head, which has details on a 360 degree basis. I honestly sprained my brain on this one. In the photo below, different views of the head is presented, to illustrate the different eyes and snouts that I tried my best to replicate. Using different sizes of s, m and L, I tried in my purist mode, to differentiate all the variants and to keep them as close to the movie as possible. The legs provided the most fun of the build. Achieving full posability was a challenge I set myself, while attempting to get the unique claws to mirror the ones in the movie. Here's an R&D concept shot, before I finally arrived at the final profiles which I am contented with. I hope fellow fans will approve of this Probeject.=) I have also submitted the project to the Lego Ideas platform. If you also think this is a pretty okay project, which you would like LEGO to consider turning into a real project, please do hop over to the link below to support=). I'm honestly quite embarrassed to be canvassing for support here, but the Lego Ideas platform require creators to promote their projects to create awareness, with the hope that it will pull in support. If you would like to back this uo, please click here to go to the website, to give your support >> https://ideas.lego.com/projects/92233 FInally, design really never ends, thats what I learnt in school. If you have comments and ideas to help further improve on this project, I look forward to hearing from everyone =) With that, I thank you for reading and supporting. I hope this is a Droid you are looking for! =) regards dark grey matters https://www.flickr.c...57650561075318/
  11. Hi, I have been displayed my version of the Battle of Hoth at shows in Ireland over the last few years. It's mostly using models from sets, but each time I try to add some new custom details. For the latest incarnation, I've added the medical lab, complete with Luke thawing out... Echo Base Medical Lab by James Shields, on Flickr Echo Base Medical Lab by James Shields, on Flickr This shot shows the complete model: Echo Base Medical Lab by James Shields, on Flickr Here's a view from around the back. showing how it's held together: Echo Base Medical Lab by James Shields, on Flickr Here's the rebellion's newest recruit: Echo Base Medical Lab by James Shields, on Flickr The lighting is a set of 50 LED lights powered by 3 AA cells. It set me back €3 in my local discount store. In addition to the medical lab, here is the latest version of the command centre. I've tried to do this a couple of times, but never really felt I captured the atmosphere of the movie. I think there's still room for improvement, but I'm much happier with the latest version, below: Echo Base Command Centre by James Shields, on Flickr Echo Base Command Centre by James Shields, on Flickr Echo Base Command Centre by James Shields, on Flickr This is on display in Athy in Ireland tomorrow. I'll post photos of the whole display soon.
  12. Earlier this year Jeremy Bulloch, who played Boba Fett, visited my hometown Fredrikstad (Norway) for a sci-fi festival. I found out I wanted to build a model of Boba Fett and show it to him when he got here. Unfortunately I underestimated the task so the model wasn't 100% complete when he was here (and not at all stable!). But I brought the model anyway and showed it to him (I even got the stand signed!). Here are two photos from that day: Bulloch was really nice and the cinema manager wanted to send him a copy of the model once it was complete. Talk about giving a Lego-builder performance anxiety! I got back home and decided to redesign the structure of the whole model. I got a lot of inspiration looking at other builders way of solving figures like this. Finally, after a few months of testing and trying (hey, I got two small kids), I feel done! Here are some pictures of the completed model: The model is now packed carefully down and will be shipped to mr. Bulloch next week. I can't wait to hear what he thinks of it. My own copy (with the signed stand) will stay in my shelf together with my BB-8, which is the same scale:
  13. Taking a little break from building a minifigure scale AT-AT and going in the opposite direction in scale. Not sure what to call this scale, so I call it Tiny AT-AT. The AT-AT measures 3 inches (7.5 cm) tall. Feel free to build your own, follow this link to my web site for the instructions, LDD file and the Rebrickable page: https://humblebricks.com/star-wars/
