LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Lego_Hero replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm still waiting here in Texas. Everything else in PQ and Atlantis is on the shelf, but no Series 3. I don't know if it's TLG or the distributors, but someone knows how to drum up interest. Only release them sporadically across the country and watch the collectors buy them up by the box load. It just drives up the frenzy when you finally get them in your area. I keep reminding myself that there are only a few I want more than one of and I still catch myself thinking that I'd buy tons of them if I saw them. -
Spray/Brush Painting Lego - How?
Lego_Hero replied to Joey Lock's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I only paint minifigs, but I may have an idea... If you are building a brick house, what if you use grey bricks? Use a bit of painter's tape along the edges so that when you spray or brush them red, the tape keeps the edges grey, making it look like mortar! Not only is it a good effect, you don't have to worry about paint on the joints and connection points. If you paint a whole wall after you put it together, taking the bricks apart will result in tears in the paint. When I finish a paintjob (I only spray paint), I let it dry and then cover it with a clear coat. You can get the clear coat right next to the spray paint in any store that sells spray paint. -
I had resigned myself to not getting an Anubis head b/c it was only available in the Pyramid set. Now I might get the keychain AND the minifig pack! WOOT! See, this is why this website is by far the best for LEGO information. Most of the things I know about LEGO are learned here.

That would certainly win something were it entered in, well, something. The stream is beautiful, I love the waterfall. If I had that, I would put it on display in my office.

Oh momma! Looking at that photostream just makes me want them that much more! I know I said I didn't like the alien b/c I already have a few of those heads (not in that color, though), but that alien's torso printing is screaming sci-fi hero! I had planned on getting one set and then just an extra elf to paint the hair black and use it for a pixie character, but I'm going to have a hard time limiting myself. The next two months will not be good for my budget. For all the complaining we do, I'm greatful for the fantastic products TLG have put out lately. -
REVIEW: 7306 Golden Staff Guardians

Four sets?!? Eight well-armed mummies? I smell an undead army coming on! -
If I bought that, were it still available and I had that kind of money, I'd take a week off from work and put as many sets together as I could. I'd probably have to resort it to fit my needs anyway. Now that I think about it, I'd have to stop time just to go through the minfigs. I think my brain would pop. My collection now has to be somewhere in the low thousands and I hardly have room for that!

I think its silly that there are people on here wasting long minutes of typing going back and forth over the good and bad of random bagging and the many ways around it. My personal opinion (since we're all sharing), at least from an American viewpoint skewed by capitalist upbringing, is that once those puppies hit the shelves all bets are off. Buy what you want with all the strategies at your disposal. I buy one of each from each series unless its something I really like or there's an accident. I bought four Spartans because I could. I did give a Spartan to one of my students, but I'm keeping the rest, not selling them. When the first series came out, I was really bugged by people who bought whole boxes because I barely got a whole set before they disappeared. But even then, I knew they were't buying boxes out from under me. I could have gone online if I had wanted to. With series two being so much more available (my TRU has parts of two boxes just sitting there), I couldn't care less who buys what. Now about Series 3: The closer to release these guys come, the more I'm wanting them. I wasn't too impressed with them overall at first, but now I think this series is just as solid as the first two. I'm really looking forward to the gorilla and the elf. -
I prefer the yellow to the neon green. There's something about yellow and red in combination. My TRU had a few of the new sets in last night. I picked up the Strider and turned down the little impulse set. I don't need another diver. They should ahve thrown in something else. How about a set with a sea creature minifig instead of a diver? I may have to bite the bullet and buy the large "ruins" set. I never buy sets over $25, but this may be the one exception. Those columns are awesome and the decoration is brilliant.

I hit my TRU late last night and found that the PQ had been picked through pretty hard. They had everything but the airplane set and that's the one I'm really wanting. I can't wait to get those wings. I doubt I'll get the Pyramid, but I NEED those Anubis heads!

REVIEW: 7306 Golden Staff Guardians
Lego_Hero replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great Review. The pictures were very nice and show alot of detail. The motorcycle is awesome. I like it better than the IJ dirtbikes. I already have a hero in mind for it. The staff is super-cool! I put a ruby in it for effect. I bet all the villains in my universe are itching to get their hands on it. The mummy printings are nice. I especially like the two faces. The one-eye face is creepy! The kopesh and scarab shields are top notch, and the head dresses have army builder written all over them. All-in-all, I'm really glad I picked this on up! -

LOL! By 'identical' I mean 'look the same'. If you take an exsisting squidman head and Series One space gun, and an old Blacktron torso you can make a minifig that looks like the one shown. Exactly like the one shown? No, of course not. I guess it comes down to your definition of 'remotely'. No one in my household has said TLG is not innovative. I was silly to ask a question that would require actual knowledge and expect something other than an answer that was really just a guess as good as anyone else's. The fact is, I do not have a favorable opinion of the squidman head. Its great to have one (I have two), but I don't really have a use for extras, regardless of color. This being a forum made up almost entirely of opinion's, I get to say I'm disappointed that they are using that particular head. I would prefer any of the other alien heads as I don't buy the more expensive sets. That new one that looks kind of like a pirannah would be really cool. I do agree that it's not likely a placeholder. Aanchir hits the nail right on the head about the 3-D rendering. Why bother with a placehold in 3-D when you could make the real thing in 3-D just as easily? I'll just have to resign myself to picking it up for the torso and ray gun. Oh the agony! -
That a really nice vig becasue of the great color and details. Way to go!

You know what I'd like to see? Probably not since you haven't asked me, but I'll tell you anyway. I'd like to see more "sets" with these sets. We get a few minifigs and a building or a vehicle. I'd love to see a big tree or a road scene with highwaymen (bandits). Y'know, some thing to play around. Maybe even make it modular where you can build a forest or town square. I love the set that are out there now, but it hit me that you don't see too many scenes anymore. I thought that was the coolest thing about the Wild West sets.

That's fantastic! I was wondering how you were going to do the books. Love the trophy!

Do you think we'll get a Lego LotR or Lego Hobbit brand?
Lego_Hero replied to Dollar Bill's topic in LEGO Licensed
As much as I'd like to see this line (and Tron, for that matter), it just doesn't look like it would happen. It seems like Disney movies have the market cornered on Lego licensing with Toy Story, PoP, PotC, and whatever else that I'm forgetting lately. Harry Potter and Star Wars have been old faithfulls for a decade, and I'm sure Indiana Jones snuck in there with the George Lucas connection with Star Wars. It would be tough to make truly original sets and minifigs because of all the Castle and castle-related themes that Lego has done in the past. -

Are we absolutely sure the squidman head is going to be used and it is not a stand-in until they finish the real head? Maybe I'm still in denial, but I'm really holding out for a different head. You can make an almost identical minifig using existing parts. I realize that's true for a few of them, but I thought this alien would be a great opportunity for some TLG designer to show off his stuff. -
Batman: Arkahm Asylum Villain Decals
Lego_Hero replied to Severus's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I really like the Joker's face. I could see using that one. All in all, this is top-notch work! My favorite is without a doubt Bane's face! I'm going to turn the black background white (making it print clear on my printer), wash out the dots between the eyes, and viola you have a GREAT gorilla face decal. -
REVIEW: 8684 LEGO Minifigures Series 2
Lego_Hero replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The official release probably happened last week, maybe Friday. I don't see them doing an officail release on Labor Day. I say that because my TRU got their second shipmant and put it out Friday. They've gotten a box early and then two boxes at the official time with both Series now. -

I agree. Unless they produce these in different machines and then feed the box from each machine, which would amount to the same thing I guess. It's probably not as hard as we make it out to be. On that note, I bought all 16 of this series, plus an extra egyptian, surfer and two spartans without using the bar codes. Well actually, I compared codes on the first ten to make sure they weren't the same, but the last ten were identified by touch. It's really easier than I thought it would be. You just identify the most recognizable part and feel for it. -
I don't have anything crazy, but I do like to build the set as fast as I can, as though I were racing someone. I think that comes from having a two-year old in the house. My daughter LOVES walking off with pieces. I finally broke down and gave her my yellow bricks, but she ended up just hiding them throughout the house. If I leave the closet door open, she rummages through my minifigs for who knows what, leaving disassembled characters everywhere in the spare room. While I don't keep anything on display (still a closet AFOL), I like to build every set I buy at least once before sorting the pieces into my collection.
-
The cool thing about specialized pieces is the challenge of finding new uses for them. Those castle wall pieces make great basements and mad scientist laboratories. They're also great for vigs when you need an old brick wall for a back ground. I do have pieces that I haven't found a great use for, but that's just because I haven't needed them yet. Necessity is the mother of invention. With my small collection, I have to be real creative with what I have.

Collectible Minifigs: What's your favorite new part mold?
Lego_Hero replied to Rick's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That was an extremely difficult poll for me! In Series One I voted for the space gun because it is so unique and exaclty what my pulp hero spaceman of the 50's needed. The skater hair was a close second because I've already used it for FOUR (counting two surfer's blonde pieces) characters. In Series Two it was just as hard. As cool and unique as the helmet is, I had to go with the trophy. I'm planning on painting it and adding small wings to make a fairy character.
