My Customization Philosophy
Lego_Hero replied to Saber Scorpion's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I may be about to step off into a storm of OMG's, but I do whatever the heck I want with my minifigs. When I'm making superheroes or villains, I've drilled holes, glued pieces together, cut pieces, made stickers, painted torsos... you name it, I've probably done it. I've even mixed Mega Blocks with regular minifig pieces!GASP! I do understand the purist side of the argument, and I've made several characters without customizing parts. I just don't see the big deal with doing what I want. There are so many cool things on this website, I don't see the point in even having this discussion. I only chimed in so I could mention that I found a drill bit that matches the arm holes on a minifig (that means four-armed guys, tentacles coming our of the chest, and tails!). -
It's a scale issue with me as well. They just don't fit in with anything I build. I will say however that the two I have are being used. Both are characters with growing powers in my Protectors Universe. I have a Jack Stone with blue jeans and a black shirt, plus a pilot in grey fatigues.

Well, I've been a sorting fool these past few weeks! Outside of about fifteen Bionicle figs, I have taken apart and sorted ALL of my sets and loose pieces. It was a chore (that I really enjoyed), but nothing compared to what I'm hearing in this thread. I have one three-drawer standup (roughly the shape of a half-sized file cabinet) and three "stackable" cabinets, each with assorted small and large drawers. I also have two hobby boxes (like small tackle boxes) that contain minifig accessories and body parts. My whole minifigs are stored in a three-drawer box about one foot wide and 1 1/2 feet deep (each drawer containing a faction in my Protectors Universe). I have a question about storage. Is it okay to store lego brick put together (as in all of my 2x4 thick bricks stuck together)? They take up less space than if they are piled loose, but I'm sure I heard somewhere that it could cause the brick to fit loosely over time. Is that true?

custom minifig designs and decals

That's just rediculous. You are on a whole different playing field than the rest of us, my friend! My only regret is that now that you have posted these, they may not end up in a series! Basketball Player: Awesome use of the legs. Great mustache. The fro dates the minifig, but that's okay. Templar Knight: This is a step up from the current Castle line. I really like the historical look. Stewardess: VERY pretty face! Would the hat sit on the hair, or would it be one piece? Imperial/Revolutionary War Soldier: One word: WIG! That would be totally awesome. I don't know why LEGO hasn't done it yet. Creature From the Black Lagoon: Brilliant mask! I'd love to see the face underneath. Awesome torso and legs. I would buy multiples on this minifig! Hobo: Limited use for me, but great minifig! The hat alone would be worth it! Lady Vampire: Down-right creepy! I'd buy multiples for the hair alone! Sherlock Holmes: That's the closest you can get to Sherlock without actually zapping Sherlock with a magic spell and turning him into a minifig. Great job! Old Guy: I want to buy him a cup of coffee and ask him about the good old days. Space Guy: That's just cool. That would fit right in with a space-faring race of heroes I have in my Protectors Universe. All-in-all, I wish this were Series 3! I'd raid my TRU in a heartbeat. Keep on brickin'! -
I really hate 'bumping' a year old thread, but I saw your pictures under your signature on the minifig thread and I had to investigate. You see, I was also looking for a better version of that vehicle. I actually tried to build the other car from Shanghi Chase in black and red for my 1930's superhero group. I was so short on the original parts that it ended up looking like a multicolored mostrosity (it's actually not that bad, but not what I was hoping). Now, using some of your innovative ideas, I may be able to actually construct the car without ordering parts! If I ever post picks of the team, I'll be sure to credit you. Thanks again, and sorry for the bump.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion

Let's everyone settle down about this minfig origin business. Has TLC given an official name yet? Besides, you are both wrong. This minifig is a representation of an advanced alien culture in the Andromeda Galaxy. That particular uniform was adopted from our history during a dimensional excursion in which the alien race visited Earth in our past. I mean, c'mon people, it's as plain as day. -

My TRU in Tyler Texas has a new box after a few weeks of nothing. It's not even picked through. I got a couple more extras. Caveman, Forestman, Robot, and Skater. That brings my grand total to 23-ish. I'm only buying for the parts; though I did turn a large number of them into a superhero teram from the 1930's/40's. I think people in the U.S. can expect to get a few more in stores soon due to slow distribution. I'm done with this series only b/c I don't have a need. I'm excited about series 2, but I can't wait for info on the next series. I guess I just like the spoilers! I think that caps guy was a troll (as in looking to get something going). Who in their right mind types in all caps, then continues to do so after people ask him not to? And if he really reads this forum regularly, wouldn't he know how to behave here? I mean, you don't see me saying anything about the World Cup that the U.S. is playing in while so many soccer countries are sitting at home watching. Just kidding. I have virtually nothing to do with soccer. We didn't even have little league soccer where I grew up. -

MMM... Cupcakes! If you put them in see-thru packaging, no one would buy the diver. You would be looking at a shelf full of divers and whatever else isn't popular. I'm much more at ease knowing only people "in the know" have the ability to pick and chose. I'll take my chances. There's alot of talk here about kids and AFOLs and the different perception each should have about the collection. To be honest, in the two places I've been to that had them in stock at the time, I've only seen one kid. And he was a young teen with the bar code print-out. As I said on some other thread, I had to tell one grandparent about them at our TRU because the box was located on an upper shelf with no special advertising or anything. Had I not been looking specifically for it, I would have missed it. The two TRUs near me only received a box each and one of those boxes was bought outright by a guy as soon as it hit the shelf. The nice young lady on the phone thought it was odd, but I assured her that it was happening all over. As I have little use for easch minifig as a whole unless it fits my hero universe, I'm just happy there are new parts coming out. I really need more skater hair, robot faces, and an honest to goodness fedora (I'm hoping for a gangster from the 1930's in a future series). -

BORDERS?!?! NOOOOO!!! I passed up a Borders on my last business trip b/c I wanted to look for Lego sets at the toy stores. I thought Borders was a bookstore. You must have a very special Borders. Question: Has anyone in the US seen these at Wal-Mart? I saw someone mention Wal-Mart somewhere, but here in Texas Wal-Marts aren't great with Lego. -
LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 Poll

I don't know if $1.99 would qualify as a premium price since you pay $3.50-$5.00 for impulse sets. I think everyone can agree from all the posts here that this line is anything but random (other than ordering from S&H). Plus, the impulses are few and far between and not as varied as the minifig series coming out. Most of the impulses are great, but I don't usually care for the mini-sets they come with. I don't want to pay that much and only need the minifig, but hey, to each his own. -

It's probably because of the congestion it would cause. I recently visited a Lego Store while on holiday (okay, I'm American and we say vacation, but I couldn't help it) and a boy was rummaging through the bags with his mother. I didn't think to bring my barcode sheet on vacation, so I asked to borrow his while he was looking. It wasn't even his sheet! he said it was some guy before him and I think that one of the cashiers handed it to him (he nodded to the cashier, so I'm making an assumption there). While I do admit to using a barcode sheet, I don't think that's abusing the system. Especially since I only bought 19 total and probably won't buy more of this series unless I need more skater hair (sounds funny to say out loud). I DO think it's not fair to others for people to buy all of the zombies or forestmen or whatever, but only because there seems to be a limited quantity of this series in general. All of the TRU's in my area have been sold out since the first week and have no idea if they'll get more. Keep the zombies, though. I have no use for them. -
LEGO Collectible Minfigures Series 1 Poll
Lego_Hero replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have to admit, going into the series, I was convinced the wrestler was the best. However, now that I have my hands on them, I think the robot is the coolest for what I'm looking for. I've already added a second robotic arm (from some Agents fig) and cut the "hands" shorter so he's not a knucle dragger. His name is Johnny One. He's a member of my 1940's hero team, the Mystery Men. The wrestler's applications are a little more limited, so he dropped in my opinion. It's good to have an extra cape (though I make decent ones myself), and the head and legs are awesome, but the forestman and the cheerleader are way cooler "in person". -
LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 Poll
Lego_Hero replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the greek guy is awesome, but so many of the others are right up there. The first series had some "must haves", but this series has far more that I'm looking forward to. There are so many pieces that I can't wait to get my hands on. I'm a minifig guy (creating an entire universe of super heroes), so these collectible series are the best thing TLG has done since the original Castle theme! -
BEWARE: Collectable Minifigures US Online Purchases
Lego_Hero replied to legitimatealex's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I hate that there are negative stories about this series. My local TRU received ONE box. I bought a total of 19 bags in three trips over three successive days. On the fourth day the box was gone. That was about two weeks ago. I keep calling them (no sense in visiting every day, though I do go to browse often), but they always say they have no idea when another box may come in. I've been told by this TRU and the one in the next town over that the actual store does not do the ordering. They never know what is going to come off the truck. It's all done through computer inventories. I would think that the computer would see how fast these sold out and order twice as much for the next shipment. All in all, I'd have to say my experience is positive. I got what I wanted (a whole set), plus an extra cheerleader, ninja, and dummy. I would not order from S&H because I'm not interested in getting random minifigs. I used the barcodes for two out of the three trips. The best thing to come of this whole experience, aside from new pieces, is that TLG now knows how profitable minfigs can be on their own. Forget Impulses (though I do enjoy these as well), TLG should kick out singles all the time. I'd spend way more money if they did. -
REVIEW: 8683 LEGO Minifigures Series 1
Lego_Hero replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the US codes, Noisy. I was just about to look for them in other threads. I stopped by TRU last night b/c I saw that US posters were reporting sightings. I went in unarmed (no bar codes) and instead of feeling them, I just compared codes to make sure I didn't get any repeats. I can always go back later (read: tomorrow) for doubles I DO want. I had seven sorted when I was distracted. This six/seven year old was telling his grandmother that the set she was picking out for him only had one man in it. It was a Star Wars set, so I'm sure the grandmother was not looking forward to buying the larger sets just to get more minifigs. He wasn't interested in the army building SW sets b/c they didn't have big ships or something. I interrupted with, "Excuse me ma'am (yes, I am a Texan), but I know a little about legoes (yes, I know that word is a no-no here, but it's a regional term). If you want more 'men', here are singles that you can add to sets. They are random (I wasn't about to explain bar codes to her), so you might get a cowboy or a space man, but you can't beat the price." She took my advice, which was cool, but it distracted me and I picked up two Crash Test Dummies (not cool) in the eight I bought. Of all the ones I didn't want doubles of, the CTD's fall somewhere in the middle. I do so much customizing, It really doesn't bother me, but that double could have been a robot or wrestler, which would have been so much better. I would have gotten more on the spot, but I had to get the new Kingdoms impulse (court jester)! By the way, there was no display. They were in the box on an upper shelf between Toy Story and Duplo. You'd have to be at least five feet tall just to see the packages. I guess that's how they hope to keep sticky fingers away. -
I'm new to posting, but I've been reading here for a long time. I started a thread today about this. My area of interest is super heroes. I'm planning on making a few of these minifigs into characters right away and using parts for others. I thought about that wrestler. You know the long blue streamers that trail the Naboo sub from Phantom Menace? Those could be ring ropes. There are probably enough custom bare torso decals around to make a pretty large wrestling group. Not my cup of tea, though.

I didn't dig up an avatar or write a sig b/c I was at work (shhh)! I found a few threads about the minifigs, but didn't see anyhting like I posted. Thanks, just the same. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

WOOT! First post ever! Has anyone posted how they'd rank the Series 1 minifigs? Before I do, I just wanted to give a little background. I'm mostly a minfig guy, with little time for actual building. I cringe everytime I drop cash for a big set just to get the minifigs. I also buy from Bricklink sometimes. I turn my minifigs into superheroes. While there are a few homages, most of them are MOCs. Counting heroes and villains, I'd say I have a little over 200, not counting 20 or so that are just sitting around as spare parts or a new persona waiting to happen. That being said, my motivation for these new minifigs is for use in my hero universe. These are ranked by preference. 1. Robot: This guy would be a perfect Golden Age hero! The big bonus is that there are so many unique parts. The helmet, face, torso, etc. could all be used to build other heroes/villains. By far the best bang for the buck IMO. 2. Cheerleader: Who doesn't want a cheerleader. It's just be cool to have. The hair and head are awesome. 3. Wrestler: The mask? Perfect for what I need. It comes with a cape! I'm curious about the legs. I can't make out the design on them, but I'm sure it's cool. 4. Caveman: This is a tough one. The body itself has limited use for me other than "Grog, Man from the Past". I don't have anything like the hair and beard, though, so that's nice. 5. Robin Hood: This is the first on my list that has been done before. I could probably make this guy myself with a trip to Bricklink (albeit much more expensively). I have three archer heroes, but one could easily change to fit this minifig. 6. Spaceman: One word: GUN! I've been waiting for a Buck Rogers gun from TLG for a long time. The short lightsaber bolt and the legs are all big pluses. 7. Skateboarder: The hair and torso are awesome. I already have a few ideas. 8. Indian: Also done before, but the pieces are also hard to get, so I could use another indian. 9. Nurse: Great face and hair. I like the torso too. 10. Cowboy: The hat is good if it's a different color from the Indiana Jones hat. The torso is cool, but the face is my favorite. 11. Crash Test Dummy: It's very unique, but I'm banging my head trying to figure out what to do with it. 12. Magician: Other than the head and the wand, I feel like I could make one of these already. 13. Ninja: Had it been a different color ninja (I know, they are supposed to be black) I would have jumped on it, but I have at least two of these guys. 14. Zombie: The torso looks like it might have some uses. The face is different, but close to that Harry Potter guy from a long time ago. 15. Diver: Until I get a good look at the torso, everybody has a bunch of TLG divers. I might change my mind if it looks like I can repurpose him. 16. Clown: As a unique minig, it's one of the best, but I don't have any use for this kind of clown. The natives from the original Pirates line make better scary masks for anti-heroes and villains. Well, that's just my take for my specific purposes. I'd like to see what everyone else is thinking.
