Bionicle 2008 Images and Discussion

Krika, Gorast, Bitil... that'll be the summer Makuta, but what the HELL happened to their names? Well, at least they're new... but really, 'Makuta Bitil'? The rest are probably the three remaining titans and the three super-titans. We already know Takanuva is in one of these groups, and as for Mazeka, I've no idea. But thanks for the list, more weirdos to look forward to. :-P EDIT: Oh, an' it's Tridax. ;-) -Ikk -

Kopaka, Lewa, or Chirox. If you must. :-P I'd rather wait 'til all sets have been seen, though... gives you something more to choose from. -Ikk -

A spirit evolved past the need of a mortal body... a living, breathing cloud of enrgy... driven by sheer will and evil that never dies... ... yeah, a big green blob. :-P -Ikk -

Geez, Clonie, relax. Why are you getting so worked up about it? First of all, gears and their functions were new in 2001. After seven years, they aren't. Second, you seem to think that gears make or break a set -- they don't. Note that I say Icarax STILL sucks, meaning he is a poor set despite his interesting usage of gears. The Mata would've still been awesome even without gears. What I really want is some innovative functions, be it by gears or not. I do not think a spinning weapon classifies as being that, though it's a nice attempt. And for the love of everything, get that ugly body-with-ball away from me. -Ikk -

Lego, for allowing it to happen. X-D Makuta sets have vast potential, as they can look like everything... so this is rather a waste. -Ikk -
Yeah, that's something new... finally we'll have villains quarreling! :-P I don't know about blind Makuta... I would expect their other senses to be developed enough for them to get by still ('specially with piggyback ride services). I also doubt that, being spirits of shadow, they would have relied on vision too heavily in the past, as it's an ability that relies purely on light. But really, whatever. I like the emphsis on light VS shadow in 2008, though, very fitting.

How does brutal = dark? :-P I didn't see many explosions or guns in 2001, though... not that I mind the former much, nor do I think these are the sole reasons for Bionicle's derogating path. Ah well. 'tis Lego. Alter what you like, or rather, what you dislike. Now more than ever perhaps. *sweet* -Ikk -

After such an uplifting year as 2007 -- Barraki, titans, small sets -- 2008 is looking worse and worse, Bionicle-wise. I'll probably get some Av-Matoran for masks and limbs, Lewa for rebuilding, and that sweet Mask of Life one way or another. Did I already mention this? :-P Anyway, 2008 looks very economical... I've been needing that. -Ikk -

Well, yes, that's why -- the Mahri showed innovation in being at least reasonably different from their predecessors, whereas the Nuva are mere recolors of the Mahrinika, thus lacking practically any originality. You're right, though, that if you judge them not based on their chronology, the Nuva are probably (at least to me) better by a bit. Mostly because they actually resemble their characters. -Ikk -

Too bad the Makuta are a huge step down from the Barraki and the Nuva are merely recolored Mahrinika. :-/ I see some potential in Kopaka and Lewa, though, especially since the latter now for sure has dark bley armor -- may get him for modification purposes. Also, here's hoping the Av-Matoran have torsos consisting of more than one piece. Probably the biggest plus in 2008, Bionicle-wise, is the masks. -Ikk -

Relax you guys, Greg said somewhere on BZP that Axonn took the Piraka to a place they could do no harm and be interrogated by the Order. :-P So as awesome as it would be, the Piraka ain't dead just yet. Oh, and that graphic novel is likely 'just' a compilation of the old ones. -Ikk -

I don't mind blades myself, I just wish we'd get them in more metallic colors. :-P Copper, gold, bronze, iron, steel blue, metal green... -Ikk -
I think there is a bigger market in the US than in any other country, but IMO Lego does far from enough for the rest of the world. They need to open their eyes a bit more to other potential big markets. Over one billion people in the world have internet access. Doesn't make it better for everybody, though. This is bones' taste versus opinion, though -- I've had my share of that. :-P -Ikk
