Ikki o' Moopyville replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The Endless Ocean planet's moon may well just have been artistic license by Randy, since it only appeared in comic 15, I believe -- also, at that time the story team hadn't yet thought about the cosmology of Bionicle. Therefore we also couldn't have seen Bara Magna, since it wasn't invented yet. Though since we never saw much of the Wall of Stars, it's possible the Matoran did see BM. -Ikk -

In the light of recent scattered parts of information and theories I have compiled a list of what seems to be the most likely Genesis of the Bionicle legend. Many mysteries from the years are now being solved or partially explained -- the greatest enigmas still present seem to be the UDD Map crusts, the Red Star and, most central, Mata Nui's purpose. Personally I wonder about the reason for the great lengths the Great Beings went to simply to rebuild a single planet, but that may not be dwelled upon much in story. What worries me is that seemingly the grand scale mysteries hinted at only little more than six months ago will be solved by the end of the story arc we now enter. If that happens, Bionicle's future seems stale -- either a story devoid of puzzles or new mysteries which have little to no relation to the original sagas. I hope that won't be the case, and that we have still yet to uncover the proverbial iceberg. Regardless, here is the alleged timeline. -Ikk -

Ahh, hence the "BM and SM are two seperate and distinct locations" -- not planets! Nice catch. =D -Ikk -

Aye, sure does... I guess the oval shapes were how the bodies looked right after the Shattering, before gravitational forces had made them fully spherical. Makes one thing odd though -- was Bara Magna the name of a region of Spherus Magna before the Shattering, since the name was inscribed in Mata Nui's mind? -Ikk -

Pencoin, still curious -- did I miss where it said the EOP was a Bara Magnan moon? It does make sense, but I don't see it referenced anywhere. =P -Ikk -

The whole thing does not make much sense, though -- how are three celestial bodies supposed to join? Maybe by EP, but most importantly: why? Why did the Great Beings not just ship off all the Spherus Magnans in Mata Nui and request him find a new inhabitable planet? It honestly makes little sense to go through that much trouble just to rebuild a planet when there are so many others out there. =| Also, I wonder what the Map Crusts are... -Ikk -

Come to think of it -- did you hear official word that the EOP is a BM moon or was that just a guess, Pencoin? =P -Ikk -

Cool? VERY cool. Bara Magna and its moons once being a larger world... sounds like Spherus Magna, but then how the heck could BM exist in the BIA alt. dimension? Also does not explain why they're ovally shaped, presuming they are the shapes on the Map. And this wass really revealed rather fast... On the Bara Magnan sketches and info: rockingly cool. The characters really come to life, and I'm loving the Tesarans more and more with every new update. Atakus' alien tech weapons are intriguing too -- suggests there is indeed Great Spirit tech inside Skull Mountain. -Ikk -
Superb review, removed all my doubts of buying Gresh. Totally getting the vibe of a mystic jungle spirit from him. <3 -Ikk

Also, Mata Nui's spirit has zip power... except extraordinary strong willpower. My guess is he shapes himself in the form of the greatest heroes he knows, the Toa, as a sign of respect and perhaps a reminder of his own world. -Ikk -

One problem: the sets would be totally inaccurate then, what with the tons of pistons and whatnot. -Ikk -

Greg said Bara Magnan civilization was never as advanced as Metru Nui or as ours, so rebuilding themselves into bionic forms seems an unfathomable option. At the same time, they look far too advanced to simply be wearing armor, and they were not created by the Great Beings or anyone else. Just like there are no maps showing pre-icecap Antarctica. Just like a second Great Spirit-like being never existed... very mysterious. I love it. =D -Ikk -

I think it's more likely he was programmed with the ability to master all languages -- evidently Bara Magna is important to his mission, but he could not have picked up the language on his journey as he was never there. -Ikk -

Actually, Greg revealed that Mata Nui's death was planned in 2001. I don't remember him saying anything about Takanuva, though, but I may have missed it. It is possible there was, as you say, a basic idea of another hero showing up in the future, and since Templar evidently had access to the story bible or knew much of the planned plot, they may have planted this hint too. EDIT: Apparently Mata Nui speaks and understands many if not all languages, and Makuta now does too. -Ikk -

Mata Nui was built on Spherus Magna and has never been to Bara Magna, so that can't be the case. =P -Ikk -

My take on the disaster? We know the Shattering was the EP fragmenting Spherus Magna -- but Brutaka hinted that it might still be going on, by saying "so many wrongs to right before the Shattering can end." If the cataclysm of SM is anything to go by, it seems as if EP is now floating around the cosmos, perhaps carried by shards of Spherus Magna. Whatever celestial body it lands on, it slowly shatters and then floats on. I am not sure how exactly this affected Bara Magna, but the buried colossus might have somehow prevented the EP from fully destroying the planet. At any rate, Mata Nui's purpose may well be to collect and contain all EP, before the entirety of the universe falls apart. -Ikk -
