Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Are you sure you have the latest? These parts should have been included in a pneumatic cylinder... I don't have them in the "?" category, so the update should be correct... A new update is coming in a few days, that should definitely solve the problem. -
Help for a new user of LDD and this forum

Yes, if the person opening your file does not have the latest bricks (used in your model), they will see the message "x parts have been removed from your model". -

Hi, This section of that first post explains it: Reaching the LDD part database First things first. How to access the current parts of LDD? We need to know that before we can add new parts. Download LDD LIF Extractor for 32- or 64-bit systems. The LIF file contains the LDD parts. It can be found here: LINK; Unzip the LIF Extractor zip file; Navigate to: Users/[UserName]/AppData/Roaming/LEGO Company/LEGO Digital Designer. The "AppData" folder could be hidden; if so: activate "Show hidden files"; Here you'll find a file named "db.lif". Drag that file onto LIFExtractor.exe; You'll now find a folder named "db". Rename "db.lif" into something else (i.e. "xxdb.lif"), this is your parts back-up file! Enter the folder, go to "Primitives". This folder contains the technical data for the parts. Navigate further to "LOD0", this folder contains the 3D models for the parts. Accessing the new parts Now for the real exciting part: adding parts to LDD. Lego Digital Designer should be closed for this. Download the update parts pack (rar file) to the location of the "db" folder from the latest post below; Unpack the folder; If asked if you want to replace files, click "Yes to all". Now you will have the latest parts and the newest part geometries. -

That probably means that there is a fault in the xml file. LDD not that tolerant with the layout. If you can't find the error, you can send me a link to the xml and g files. I'll check it for you. -

I will check to see if something is going wrong with the collisions. -

It does work on the brake dish piece (but that one might not have collisions, so you could be right!), but has 3 attachment positions that are slightly off. -

It look like you have downloaded version .12. That's a "bugged" version. A few posts back, the link to the .11 version is written. LINK -

No, I used the 6-digit DesignID, but that doesn't work in the custom pallet. So I just reverted back to 5-digit numbers. I will assign free numbers to your pictures and in the DecorationMapping.xml. Expect an update soon, with some updated parts and collisions. -

We really can't add parts from other brands. LDD is still the property of The LEGO Group and will at least stay that as long as it is downloadable from the site. I don't think TLG would be happy for us to include bricks from competitor brands... -

Cool! I will add them. Does anyone know if ShinyPlastic or ShinySteel are the only MaterialTypes? There is a new GlitterPlastic that doesn't render glitter properly. Do we know how to add new MaterialTypes? I already added that to Current Material. Though the TLG name is 107 Bright Bluish Green. Could you check the RGB Blue value for 362? -

A new parts pack has just been published. And, boy, it's a good one! Find it through this LINK. Version 20200819 includes: • 4 new parts (3 Control+ motors, and the Control+ hub); • 4 updated parts (1 is now decoratable, 3 have updated connection points); • 1 new decoration (for part 46882); • A custom Template in the Mindstorms Theme: 2020 New Pre-Colored Parts (includes all pre-colored new parts); • An updated MaterialNames.xml: added 353 'Vibrant Coral', added "Silver Ink.," to 298; • An updated CurrentMaterials.xml: added 353 'Vibrant Coral', moved 107 'Bright Bluish Green' and 298 'Silver Ink., Cool silver, drum lacq' to Current colors; • An updated Materials.xml: added 353 'Vibrant Coral', changed RGB color for 20 'Nature', added 20 'Nature' to Legacy colors, and; • An unzipped LDDExtended.lif. You must add the included 'LDDExtended' folder to the Templates folder, and removed LDDExtended.lif. ? When messing with LIF files, please back up the original LIF files! -

Well, mostly about most curved sections. When you compare with the original LDD parts, you'll see that curved areas look relatively smooth. -

I downloaded all parts, but before they can be released in an update, there are still some major and minor things to fix: • Most parts have holes in the geometry, possibly due to a poor LDraw model; • The holes of the sheets are too large; • 6642 has one clip that is acting weird (it's upside down); • Radii are still too crude, facetted. It's a nice selection of parts! But it definetely need some more work. -

Stay tuned. I might have something really useful for you guys in a while. I'm creating a custom pallette with all pre-multi-colored parts: motors, pneumatics, hair pieces etc. EDIT: finished; Palette will be included in the next update. -
