  1. I quite liked BTB personally and it would have been a decent route to get some obscure villains but never mind! I also quite like the Batplane..
  2. There's no doubt that the batmobile is based on Beware the Batman. The suit is styled exactly like BTB (the most notable difference to the new 52 is the use of an arched gold utility belt compared to a new 52 more familiar design, plus the Bat logo itself is slightly different) but the colouring is strange- BTB is an all black batsuit (more like the drawn image we saw on a off a while ago) than the grey we actually got. This could be down to the difficulty of printing a black logo on black suit, wanting more colour variation between the suits in the wave or, somewhat speculatively, the emergence of a failing cartoon and a recolour to take us closer to a new 52 suit.
  3. I'm a DC completionist (and love the new 52) so I'm totally biased. But doing it with the DC/Marvel split for fairness: DC: probably the funhouse- it feels so 2D and insubstantial and more 'toy-ish' somehow. If I had to drop one DC set it would go. Marvel: Not a big fan of any of this years sets (plus as my love of Marvel isn't too great some of the more obscure characters are meaningless to me (Taskmaster and Falcon) or plain daft looking (MODOK)) but the Iron Man 3 golf cart attack takes the biscuit- not only does it look like nothing in the film but its plain silly. Even worse, as a fan of the movie I own it!
  4. Not what i would want but trans-green flick missile perhaps...
  5. I would love to get several of these but being uk based the amount I had to pay to yet one was quite enough! They do feature in the film- I clocked it on a clip in the video game but have forgotten if its in the super cycle chase or the bricksburg battle...
  6. Just got my Martian Manhunter, lovely figure, really crisp vibrant printing. Had a little difficulty in the store, the promotion (in the Uk anyway) is clearly £50 on any merchandise but in the store they'd been told superheroes only- sorted it out easily enough after pointing them to every advert in the place and online being clear. (In case you're wondering, I had bought all the DC sets in January (steamroller was out here then too) and I'm not planning to get any marvel sets (only one im interested is the captain America set but I have a Christo Red Skull so waiting to see if I love the movie as much as the first one before buying). Although if GOTG is good i could be tempted there too...)
  7. What are they doing to Splinter! Really hate those designs, unless the movies amazing or the lair fits in with the cartoon lair. Its a shame we can't get a cityfall set- that would be amazing.
  8. This is a very old fashioned view point on equality (along the 'we must all be the same' lines). Its as important to recognise the differences between people and celebrate them (ie Diversity and Inclusion) to engender a sense of true equality than to portay everything as identical. Just as with race, age or any other characteristic, its good that Lego figures have become more diverse and more representative of those characteristics. Unless the depiction is overly sexualised or offensive I see no issue with the movie (Wyldstyle being amongst the most capable characters) or the figures (people do sometimes wear dresses) Far more dangerous is sensationalised over reaction
  9. Come on guys, we get it, not everyone likes Batman, you don't need to continuously go on about it. On a personal note, I don't like this years marvel sets, I'm ok to read about people who do to find out about sets I am interested in (ps Batman, and his sets, are great!) I'm 50/50 on the Gotg sets but it really depends in whether I like the movie (its not a comic I've ever read and, indeed, Marvel comics really haven't done it for me since 10 years or so ago- when i got back into them last year I discovered a major love for DC). So far, I like them enough to get them if the movie is good, but theyre not so inspiring I would get them on a whim!
  10. I could not disagree with you more, unless they gave us something like a d2c with Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner and John Stewart (Simon Baz?) facing off against... Well pretty much anything! (Although a brick built Nekron or Sinestro and the Warworld/Ranx would I pretty cool). If we get just a single Lantern I would seriously hope for Hal- I could cope with John Stewart or Kyle (preferably John as its nice to get some diversity) but I wont be happy with Gardner. I know it wouldn't come into legos thinking but there are decent customs of Stewart and Gardner available too- whereas aside from Christo's movie Hal (which I'm glad I own!) he's most in need of the treatment from a purely selfish point of view
  11. Exactly, I think you need to be far more hard core to buy the sub than the pirateship (plus I wonder if there's some issue with Batman licensing in sets- we only get him in 1 movie set with no Bat-vehicles at all). For the other things, the dig has been covered and the top of the tower is basically a build that would be a gigantic black square with an interior.
  12. While you might be right, I'm sure they wanted to do a large D2C and there aren't many good options in the movie really from what I could see. (As Ive bought it I'm clearly part of the market for it!)
  13. I imagine the Sea Cow is aimed at adult fans of the film (like my wife and I, hopefully getting ours today) and I think the film has universal appeal enough to support that- i know plenty of non-afol adults without kids who have seen or will see it. The key is simply whether theyve produced the right level of stock for the segment of customers who will buy it!
  14. The Vetruvius thing could be just as simple as a character with a white robe and white hair with a yellow face wouldn't be very striking on screen. But to be honest, more diversity is better, so I'm glad he was neither yellow or white.
  15. The Green Lantern LED light is starting to feel like bullying- they need to give us a green lantern set already (I'll do them a deal, they can include 4 batmen in the set, all black and yellow ones and I'll still buy it On a semi-related note, I still hope for a Lego movie green lantern too, either with the dvd or a polybag like Martian manhunter, complete with gappy teeth.
  16. My main issue with the movie design in general is that theyve made the undershell look like musculature... That and theyre just hideous. That's good though, cant really buy the cartoon and movie sets!
  17. Is it still likely to be available to VIP members tomorrow? Must buy asap!
  18. Leaving the Friends stuff aside (it could have been a creative decision, a visual decision, a decision based on the assumed target audience- there's no evidence to suggest the reasons why; controversially it could have been to try and move girls away from their more dedicated lines by feminising more typically male lines, who knows) the very notion of canon in a toy world entirely about imagination had never really occurred to me before and, to be honest, I've yet to see any real evidence in favour of a singular canon across Lego with the fictional works tending to be suggestions to provide context to sets/themes. As such, the impact of this movie on a weak canon is, in my opinion, almost entirely negligible. This is a tale set in one particular world view with a story focussed on challenging that particular status quo. If anything, this is an anti-canon narrative. Incidentally, as a kid I rarely if ever used to mix themes- I used to build and play around one theme at a time only, so in my much younger view I don't think there was any crossover at all, and I don't remember many 80s Lego stories suggesting there was. How very dull and consistent a child I was!\
  19. I'm still waiting on 4- the mermaid, Abraham Lincoln, Where's my pants guy and Gail. The big issue I'm having in London is a lack of places I can really stand around feeling the bags (and naturally every time I ever risk blind buying I get Lord Business or Emmet).
  20. Batman Emmet Wyldstyle Unikitty Metalbeard Michaelangelo (turtle) Gandalf The Flash Superman Wonder Woman Green Lantern (custom) El Macho Witch Ghost Shakespeare Cardio Carrie Ice Cream Mike Ice Cream Jo Iffy on Master Builder Status: Panda Guy Snail Larry the Barista Frank the Foreman Miss Scratch'n Post ...Bad Cop?
  21. The moment I saw it I knew my Lotr collection would never be complete as I cant realistically get both and this ship is the most ridiculously awesome set... Plus queasy kitty!
  22. I thought he was hilarious in the movie (and I'm a Batman obsessive), although I know that some Batman fans take him pretty seriously! Batmans always been a massive jerk, compared to the far more considerate and compassionate Alfred creating an interesting tension- hes just an awesome jerk!
  23. Totally agree with Faefrost. On the whole Batman thing, while obviously played for comic effect, its the first representation of him that really gets across that he loves being Batman and he is an arrogant douchebag (its part of what males him such a great character). I wonder how it resonates with kids though- the tv shows etc tend to show him as a more classic hero than the comics
  24. I didn't get one of these (being 30 and not trying doesn't help) but I'd really like to build one, anyone got any ideas on a set that has the right pieces?
  25. Saw the movie yesterday and got one (they'd run out of Emmets so went into my nearest Odeon today and bought a kids deal just to get him). Wasn't particularly sold on the photos but in the flesh...metal...plastic its a really nice figure
