DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
TheBatstan replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Man, whoever took that first picture of the new cowl really wanted to make it look bad, it looks MUCH better now in terms of the proportions to the rest of the minifigure. The eyes are still just a little too big, and the ears aren't long enough to be used for Keaton's Batman (I guess I'll be using the type 2 cowl for this figure after all), but overall it's a vast improvement over the other image. The Batman Returns torso print looks spectacular as well. I wonder if this is really going to be for the "Batman 1992" polybag, because if it is, it's going to sell like crazy. -

Oh yeah, forgot BoP was also rated R (though maybe that was because I only ever saw it once). And I was more so counting the direct DCEU tie-ins with the minifigures that were based on their movie costumes instead of the comic versions that were released around the same time as their movies. Otherwise I would've mentioned the comic Suicide Squad figures we got back in the summer of 2016, and I guess getting Huntress in the DC CMF's since that came out around the same time as BoP. And yeah the type 2 cowl used for the armored Batsuit really wasn't the best choice, but like it was mentioned here earlier, I think it had to do with that cowl having the thick chin strap that the type 3 cowl got rid of in order to match the movie helmet. -

It's funny (and sad) because the DCEU sets had a strong start. 3 sets for Man of Steel, 3 again for BVS + one polybag and I guess the Knightmare Batman accessory pack from 2018...then it started to sort of fall apart. Lego skipped making direct tie-in sets for Suicide Squad for obvious reasons, Wonder Woman got just one set, and Justice League got the 3 set treatment again because it was supposed to be the film that really kicked things off. From what I've heard people say, those sets sold horribly and from that point onward, a DCEU movie would be lucky to even get 1 set like Aquaman did. Nothing for Shazam, Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad (this one I can understand because of the R rating), Black Adam and now Shazam: FoTG. Wonder Woman '84 was the last DCEU movie to have gotten a tie-in set before The Flash, and even then that set is pretty much an excuse for Lego to make a wide release version of the 1989 Batmobile GWP after it sold out within hours on the first day back in 2019. Batfleck is going to have an incomplete minifigure collection for years because he'll be missing his final Batsuit from The Flash. Even other companies like Spin Master and McFarlane are still making action figures of him along with his Batcycle despite Affleck saying he's only in the movie for 5 minutes. However, I saw this 95% purist custom on Instagram from delta.png that uses the torso and legs from the BVS armored Batman and it's easily the best way to make his suit yourself without resorting to making a custom torso print, there's even some blue on it already: -

I had a feeling that image was from a bootleg when none of the other major leak accounts on IG were reposting it as well. The front looked very simplified and would've been a huge let down for me if it was legit. With how many innovations Lego has made in the past few years in the Speed Champions line which they later spread out to other themes (such as the 2 seater chassis piece that was used for The Batman Batmobile and Tumbler), I really found it hard to believe that they would make a new 1989 Batmobile that was a 1 seater again and NOT use the 2 seater piece. The blank yellow 1x1 round tile pieces used for the hubcaps that had mini bat symbols on them felt like another dead giveaway when you remember that Lego has already made that piece with a bat symbol printed on it (as well as in a slightly more accurate light bluish grey color), so why not reuse it here if this was the real thing? -

Well, making a new cowl seemed like a giant waste now if they're still using the goggles/headband anyways. But looking on the bright side, it's like Lego made one face with the goggles because they knew the molded cowl wouldn't be well received by many, so you'll still be able swap it out with the better looking Type 1/2/3 cowls. Plus after so many years, we have a new facial expression instead of the scowl facial expression that's been used since 2012. This one reminds me a lot more of the 2006 Batman face but with cheekbones, and I can definitely see this face working with the Bale and Pattinson Batman's a lot better than the 2012 head. The alternate normal Bruce Wayne face is something that has been a LONG time coming too, you'd think Lego would've done that from the very beginning with the 2006 sets since the cowl piece covers the entire head anyways. But if there's one thing that the new cowl is going to be useful for, it's being able to finally stick a black head under it so that Batman can look like this. When I was a kid I used to use a black Sharpie to color in the mouth area as a way to get around it, but not anymore: -

It's probably the fastest I've ever had my hopes dashed for anything. At least the torso looks great, though I can't tell if this is supposed to be Keaton's suit from The Flash or Batman Returns. Then again, the leaked concept art had Keaton wearing the Returns Batsuit in some images, and we all know how Lego likes to make minifigures based on early concept art rather than the final product. Looks like I'm going to have to wait for the HD pics to see if I'll have to stock up on Type 2 cowls. -

I never thought this day would come. I remember people asking for something like this since 2006 with the original Batman sets, but I always assumed Lego was going to stick with the white headband printing till the end of time. My only fear is that I hope it doesn't end up like the Captain Marvel helmet that makes the head look like a bobblehead. If Lego keeps it around the same size as the 3 pre-existing cowl pieces but with the white eyes already filled in, it'll be perfect. And if the cowl piece is one without a chin strap like the 2015/Batfleck cowl, please let the ears be slightly longer this time. If it is, It's going on my Battinson figure the second I get my hands on one. -

I hope some details about the Flash set are included, it's scheduled for a May release yet there hasn't even been a single leaked image of it by now. Meanwhile, there's already been HD pictures revealed for the Jurassic Park 30th anniversary sets and those come out in JUNE. -

I meant an Alfred that wasn't based on his appearances in the movies, The Lego Batman Movie included, or the one version that was specifically made for the 60s Batcave. Just a straight up comic book version of Alfred/pretty much how he appeared in the DC Super Villains game, especially now that Lego has made that balding hairpiece with the black hair and combover printing on top of it as an actual piece. This is practically a modernized 2006 Alfred: Bingo. -

I can also see Lego throwing in a few Batmobiles considering it's canon in the comics that Bruce likes to keep a collection. Maybe this could be a way to get some versions that Lego would never really make as standalone sets, like a 1940s Batmobile or even the Schumacher Batmobiles. -

Now that I think about it, I'm hoping for it to be comic based as well mainly because it would be the best chance of FINALLY getting a comic Alfred minifigure for the first time since 2006 that isn't based on the 1966 show/movies (I count The Lego Batman Movie Alfred in that group). Plus getting actual giant versions of the penny, dinosaur, and Joker card instead of being mini easter eggs like how they were in the 2019 Batcave. -

For years I've held the belief that the 2006 Batcave would never be topped in terms of the scale and detail. Looks like that 17 year streak ends this year in June when this comes out. AND it's a fully enclosed Batcave, this is the sort of stuff that I thought would only be possible in MOC form. Now I wonder if it'll be comic based or movie based, that's the one thing missing from this reveal. -

Just when I thought my wallet would be relatively safe this year (unless this turns out to be a giant Batmobile for the upcoming Batman buildable figure to sit in...) Maybe it's because I've been on a bit of a Keaton Batman kick ever since I saw The Flash trailer, but besides the possibility of being an extremely detailed Arkham, I'm willing to bet it'll be his Batcave. I just feel like with Lego making the 1989 Batmobile and Batwing, they'd tie it all together with the Batcave so that you can keep everything in one place. Though out of the two Batcave designs that were in the Burton movies, the one from Batman Returns has a lot more set potential with all that's in it, especially the costume vault with the dozens of spare Batsuits. You know Lego would include that in order to justify a reason to buy multiples of the Keaton Batsuit minifigure. Nevertheless, I'm really excited to see what this ends up being, now if we could just get the first set images of the Flash Tracking set to kick things off... -

Well well, I guess this upcoming wave is going to be the summer of Keaton. All that's missing now is a set for Batman Returns with the Batskiboat to round out his vehicle lineup (in live action at least, if Lego really wanted to complete the list they should make a small set with the Batcycle from the Batman '89 comic from 2 years ago). The big Batman buildable figure is an easy pass for me though, I wish I knew why Lego is going all in on these figures because surely they can't be selling THAT well. Getting a minifigure scale 1989 Batwing is a surprise, especially since Keaton's Batman will be flying a new Batwing model in The Flash. You'd think Lego would make that version instead of the first one, but the 1989 one is much more recognizable so it makes sense. It's funny because the Batwing from 2019 that came in the Riddler set with Shazam was pretty much 99% accurate to the 1989 design, you just needed to remove the unnecessary missiles and stickers and you were all set. The Batman in this set is definitely going to be be wearing the 1989 suit, so even if the Flash Tracking set uses Keaton's 2023 Batsuit, we'll at least have one version of his design that can fit in the 1989 Batmobile. I just hope the Joker in this set either has a hairpiece this time or a hair/hat combo piece like what the new Indiana Jones figure is getting, plus his comically large pistol. -

Knowing Lego, the polybag is going to be a microbuild of the Batmissile from Batman Returns. -

Zod was shown on the back of the box for The Flash Funko Pops. But even then, he's supposed to be the exact same version from Man of Steel. Lego probably doesn't see much use in remaking that figure when the old one still holds up to this day, especially when you put on the Kryptonian armor pieces. -

Probably a hot take, but I would've easily taken a BTAS Two-Face minifigure over the Phantasm in that Gotham mosaic set. You could pretty much make the Phantasm the purist way without having to resort to using any custom pieces, but it's been 17 years since we last had a black/white suit Two-Face (and The Animated Series is where that color combo originated from in the first place). After that we've only ever gotten Two-Face wearing brightly colored suits that really doesn't represent the concept of dichotomy as well as black and white does. Granted, one of those minifigures was based on his Golden Age appearance, but it would've worked better if he was paired with a Golden Age Batman because the orange/purple suit just wasn't it. Lego already has this weird aversion with including Harvey in the sets, I can count on one hand the number of times he's been a minifigure, and that's including the overexaggerated Lego Batman Movie version. He's an A-list Batman villain yet from the time the DC theme began in 2012, he's been in 2 sets (strictly the comic version, not the Billy Dee Williams version), and as of this year it'll be 4 years from when he last appeared in the 2019 Batcave. If Lego is finally capitalizing on the BTAS popularity, then the no-brainer decision would be including this design in a set with the BTAS Batmobile instead of reusing the Joker again. -

Then there's me who's only watching the movie for Keaton's Batman, and the only reason why I'm even getting the set is because of the chance to get an updated version of the 1989 Batmobile that won't cost me over $100 to buy online like the GWP version from 2019. -

Looking back at The Batman Batmobile/Tumbler sets that were both around the same price point as the Flash Tracking set and only included 2 minifigures, I'm 99% confident that this set will have Keaton's Batman and the regular DCEU Flash. Getting Supergirl or the other Barry Allen that's wearing one of Keaton's old Batsuits that's been turned into a makeshift Flash suit as a third figure would be amazing, but I'm not getting my hopes up. And I'm just going to say it, Batfleck has the lowest chance of appearing unless this set or the movie does extremely well to the point where Lego decides to make a small set with his Batcycle later in the year or even next year. -

There are other ways to differentiate the two besides their age. Pattinson's Batman/BatVerse Batman can stick with the gritty realism theme and darker tone while wearing the black and grey armor, while the DCU Batman can wear the blue and grey (maybe even as a cloth suit considering Gunn ripped Peacemaker's costume straight from the comics instead of making it armor) and deal with more fantastical concepts since he'll be in a world with the Justice League and metahumans. -

Imagine lol, but there's no way that a set priced at $45 would only include a bike and nothing else (though I'm kind of surprised that Lego didn't jump at the chance to make a set with Batfleck's Batcycle considering it actually looks like an oversized motorcycle build that Lego would make). Besides, Keaton's Batman is going to be one of the main characters in the movie based on all the leaked marketing images, while Batfleck is nowhere to be seen. I'm going with the second option with the old cowl and new print. While the cape/cowl piece looks amazing (and accurate since you can't turn the minifigure's head with it on), there's no way the figure would be able to fit inside the actual Batmobile. Using that piece is fine with the D2C vehicles since those weren't meant for minifigures to sit in anyways, but Lego isn't about to make a minifigure scale Batmobile and include a Batman that can't sit in it. And I think it won't be the exact 1989 suit since Keaton's new Batsuit for the movie is different from his original suits. For starters, there's a black utility belt instead of bright yellow, and the torso design is different as well. Though going with Lego's past history of making figures based off of concept art, maybe they'll use the 1989 or Batman Returns suit for the torso print as all the leaked concept art for the movie (it's on Google) shows Keaton wearing either of those suits. -
