Because keeping a bunch of sets in production at the same time is an exorbitant expense. Furthermore, retailers do not want to keep the same sets on shelves year after year. They want to rotate their stock regularly so there's always something "new" to grab kids' attention.

Eagle Castle is cool, but it definitely isn't what I was expecting... to be fair, I would never have gotten my hopes up for a full castle if I had realized it was a Speedorz set. It's still brilliant, make no mistake, but I look forward to some architectural features showing up in sets that emphasize structure, not just sculpture. Why shouldn't we? It's imaginative, well thought out, and full of potential ideas to be explored.

I haven't played much in the way of "serious" video games in quite a while, but a couple months ago I started playing the LEGO Hero Factory "Breakout" game on my iPhone and enjoyed it a great deal. I've beaten the main game and most of the challenges, though I'm still pitiful at survival mode. Haven't played that as much since I got the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic game by Gameloft on my iPhone. While I never intend to use the game's microtransactions and realize that after a certain point that will make progress extremely difficult, it has so far offered the kind of tedious, repetitive, time-wasting gameplay that I can put up with easily (doesn't require much of a time investment at any one time, and doesn't require much thought-- great for playing during my commute to my college classes), and the brilliant graphic design and voice acting have done well to keep me engaged (not to mention the presence of so many fan-favorite characters).

Ack... wish I had saved more of the new part images I saw on Brickset. Along with the minifigures series 10 parts, there were at one time at least four microfigs from Maya Mystica pictured there... now they've been taken down. Nice Heroica layout, Artanis!

Perhaps that was TLG's way of trying to get it to look like just a trunk rather than a pirate-type treasure chest. There have been sets in the past that had just the top or just the bottom, so it's not like a matching pair is required in any set design.

The Russian set descriptions I found at toy.ru a while back mentioned a gorilla clan multiple times, and one of the preliminary images of a floating island in Chima shows a gorilla face carved into the cliffs.

We don't really say "electrics" here in the States (at least, not the parts I've lived in), but it is a real term. Certainly more accurate than "electronics" would be for this application. It's kind of like how we say "math" in America instead of "maths"... just a regional difference in how something (in this case, I suppose, "electrical systems") is abbreviated.

Wow, so impressed to see I won the 16x16 category of the Ultimate Battle contest! I was up against some stiff competition, and was thinking I'd be lucky just to place! I'll take the Jay tag. Kind of sad Ninja Month is over... I was enjoying dressing up as a Ninja. Probably won't have time to dress up as a super hero this month; but I have a revised sigfig avatar in the works so it should only be a matter of time before I'm walking the streets in my civilian clothes once more.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
Aanchir replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Part of it is probably a matter of which cultures are more well-known to The LEGO Group's main markets in Germany, Great Britain, and the United States, but part of it is also probably a matter of which warriors they can make recognizable while reusing existing elements. -
The difference between the two minifig back plates is probably that the newer one is Chinese-made and the older one is not. Or maybe the older one was just taken out of production and got a new Element ID when it was put back into production. Certainly it's not out-of-the-question for new releases of a part to get new Element IDs for unclear reasons. I'll add that to the list, along with any other suggestions I may have missed. EDIT: Major example of new element IDs for identical or otherwise indistinguishable parts: the wind-up key for the Tin Soldier (6038196) has the same color and design ID as the one from the toy robot (4652446), and both were made in the same facility within two years of each other, but they have different element IDs.

If you don't like them, you can just treat the head and helmet as one piece. But I think one-piece head molds would have been worse in that they wouldn't likely have as many print colors and wouldn't have allowed for alternate expressions without acquiring multiple figs.

It all depends on what you consider unique. I'd agree that Ninjago is unique, and that besides having ninjas in it and some Asian-inspired architecture, it has nothing at all to do with the Castle subtheme that was the original 90s Ninja line. You could just as easily argue that the original Space Police sets weren't unique because they were just a copy of the LEGO police sets from the early days of the minifigure. Those have about as much in common with Space Police as the 90s Ninja line has to do with Ninjago, after all (I don't remember half of either wave of Ninja sets being composed of wacky sci-fi vehicles or strange fantasy monster minifigures).

Post about Cartoons and Anime you like

Today's My Little Pony episode was great. It was nice to see another slice of life episode after the last episode's wacky magical hijinks and the premiere's epic adventure story. I'm glad to see the very serious issue of bullying was dealt with in a way that could teach kids a valuable lesson, but without seeming heavy-handed. It also was a very unique story compared to some previous Cutie Mark Crusaders episodes. -
Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
Aanchir replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
There's a difference though between challenging yourself to be stealthy and watching somebody else sneak around... the former (which doesn't really work in a non-interactive medium) can be exciting, but the latter eventually gets boring. And both tend to be a very slow kind of suspense, unlike the fast-paced action of a good fight scene or chase scene which would appeal more to Ninjago's target audience. I don't know of any online sources but Kevin Hinkle (TLG's community coordinator for North America) confirmed at Bricks Cascade that the sets wouldn't be continuing in 2013 (although he later corrected that statement when he learned that there would be one wave in 2013), and Cartoon Network, at least, is not signed on for any additional seasons of the show (instead they are going to be airing Legends of Chima). Also, nobody at Wil Film has hinted at any plans for new seasons after the latest one. I agree it would be nice to have an official statement from TLG clarifying the issue, but for now we've just got to point to the evidence. The strongest single piece of evidence is this press release which says the complete series will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray in the first half of next year, which isn't exactly possible if the series is intended to continue after that.- 4,591 replies

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
Aanchir replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Nah, it's just that you kept putting the "y" before the "o" instead of after. It's a typo I've seen a number of people make; it doesn't help that Lloyd isn't an especially common name and so a lot of people might not recognize what it's supposed to look like typed out. Anyway, in the finale, the only thing that really bothered me is that there was never a clear reason why Lloyd was suddenly able to find the strength of the Golden Ninja within himself. In the episodes in which Zane, Jay, Cole, and Kai unlocked their true potential, it was made extremely clear which of their own internal conflicts they overcame to find that inner strength, but with Lloyd it seemed like it was just the higher stakes of the final battle against the Overlord that triggered it, almost like a deus ex machina in a way. There are obviously a lot of possible reasons Lloyd could have succeeded in the final battle where he had failed on the Island of Darkness-- perhaps he was no longer hesitating because he thought his father was gone for good, or perhaps he recognized that the sacrifices of all his friends and allies would be wasted if he didn't defeat the Overlord this time, or perhaps the confidence his teammates had in his ability to win was enough to boost his own confidence in himself. But whichever of these was the case, it wasn't made clear in the episode itself, and I think that was the episode's key weakness. Other foibles I know a lot of people have brought up, like Misako seemingly choosing Garmadon over Wu without hesitation, or the fights feeling "sticky", didn't really make much of a difference to me. The conclusion was satisfactory for me, and Misako going to Garmadon could be interpreted a number of ways. Certainly Wu didn't seem at all broken up about it, which would suggest that he is still willing to take things as they come rather than worrying about what might have been. And the fight scenes, while not all that compelling, aren't really the reason I enjoy Ninjago, though I can appreciate how much hard work it takes to create the fight scenes in shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and how much high-quality fight scenes add to a show's visual appeal. As far as the script for the finale was concerned, I definitely feel that other than Lloyd's ambiguous character development, it was top-notch. All the characters' emotions felt genuine (which is just as much a matter of scriptwriting as of the show's talented voice acting), the callbacks at the end to previous episodes were top-notch, and everyone acted about how they would be expected to act in these situations. Agreed. Basically it's a lot like how swordfights in Hollywood tend to add a lot of unnecessary flourish to make them more visually interesting. Similarly, Ninjago tends to focus on fighting more than stealth, and even when the Ninja do have a "stealth mission" they do a lot of seemingly-unnecessary rolls, leaps, and flips in order to show off the characters' agility. It's really just a matter of what audiences want to see, and while stealth-based missions lend themselves to a lot of edge-of-your-seat suspense, they don't have the same "Wow, cool!" factor that a colorful fight scene has.- 4,591 replies

Nah, Lime is officially Bright Yellowish Green. Bright Green could be described as somewhere between lime and classic green. It's been used for over a decade (maybe even two decades) for some baseplates and plant pieces, though a lot of people are still unfamiliar with it. Most recently it was the primary color of the waste management sets from this year's City lineup and the "ultrabuild" Green Lantern set. Bright Green parts on Bricklink

This is... actually pretty excellent. Very authentic likeness of the apartment and the characters. Great work!

Okay... what makes you think the Series 9 list we already have is wrong? Not to mention how implausible it is for a paintball player to show up in LEGO City. It's an extremely niche character design that wouldn't have nearly the same "everyday" appeal for kids as police officers and firefighters would. The librarian's a more plausible candidate for the City theme than the paintball player, but I see no reason to doubt any of the minifigures lists we've seen given how consistent they seem to be with what we've seen.

Alright, I definitely can agree to some of the changes that have been recommended: namely that the axe and mohawk go with the Native American and the spear goes with the historic/fantasy female fig. Not sure what hair/headgear goes with the punk/biker, though. Also, someone's posted a Series 10 list that seems to mostly line up with this... however, it refers to the "nerd girl" as a librarian, which suggests the chemical flasks do not go with her. That person also blogged a Series 11 list, and the tin soldier is conspicuously absent from both lists... possibly the fig for the Minifigures Character Encyclopedia, then? There is also a scientist on that Series 11 list, which coupled with the higher Element ID for the two flasks makes me think those are Series 11 parts.
-
Found those but have had a hard time matching them to figs... Any suggestions? The angry female face is already matched to the historic female fig btw.
-
Thanks. The Bumblebee wings I had actually seen earlier, but didn't tie them to the bumblebee. The axe I had also seen, but I hadn't paid attention to the Element ID and assumed it was Duplo. Keep 'em coming! Also, it'd be great if someone would save these in case they get taken down.
-
The baseball player fig is definitely new and matches up with the gray pants I found earlier and was having trouble identifying a matching fig for. It's a great find, but does present more questions in that it's a 17th fig, meaning that either this represents more than one series or represents one series and the exclusive fig from the Character Encyclopedia. The former is more likely. Keep those finds coming and I'll keep editing my post to keep tally of what figs we should anticipate.
-
Ah, sorry. Rohan shield was my mistake; I was puzzling over what that one was supposed to be. I haven't removed any of the others I had listed before, though, just moved them around. Currently I've matched them up to resemble 16 unique figs... possibly Series 10? If so I guess that kinda preempts the guessing game topic.

What do you mean by "already released"? As far as I know, none of these are from already-released series. If you're talking about the painter, this isn't an artist like in Series 4; he paints houses and buildings. If you mean we've seen pics already, that's fine... I have a hard time keeping track of what we've seen and what we haven't seen. Updated with more pics for painter, paintball player, punk, some type'a tween, etc. Will update in a sec with the paintball gun and other suggestions you guys have.
