LEGO Dimensions – Counting the LEGO Multiverse
TalonCard replied to TalonCard's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LOL, nice find on that Target ad. I'd assume that was part of Holiday Odyssey world; it doesn't really do enough world building to confirm a separate universe. I'd be interested in seeing those Technic ads... LEGO Star Wars has its own universe in 3001--it's been part of this from the get-go. :) As of right now I'm assuming that the Droid Tales is part of 3001; there are probably enough differences in the storyline to make it distinct from, say, the LEGO Star Wars video games, but I think the flexible nature of LEGO allows for some variation in narrative without having to assume an alternate universe for each one. You've reminded me that hyperspace itself probably deserves its own entry: 3001A: Hyperspace. ;) TC -

Target world update! Added 2506 Target Ad-verse and 2506A Holiday World from the 2015 Target . While researching this I realized I'd somehow missed a Bullseye mascot promotional set from 2010, so I added 3050 Targetverse as well.TC -
LEGO Dimensions – Counting the LEGO Multiverse

Thanks for staying on the ball with this, guys. :) Oooh, good catch on both of those! I had no idea HAL showed up. And I wonder if this is the last of the box videos, now that it's come from one of the voice actors to another? Oh man, that is a great catch--how in the world did you notice that? I don't think it's concrete enough to warrant its own entry just yet, but I'll definitely add it to the Sixteen Realms entry. Nice speculation. You both have inspired me to finally make the big LEGO Dimensions update I've been putting off. (I know, I know, it was the reason for this thread in the first place!) Here's the run-down: Added 1750: Vorton World and 1750A-M Adventure Worlds Added 3048A-3048G to the Midway Arcade universes (defined as trans-reality pocket dimensions in-game by X-PO.) Added 3049: 2001niverse (It's a shame that 2001 and 3001 are already thoroughly taken.) Renamed 2007 Mystery Dimension to match the end level name. It seems likely that the takes place in this universe, the box having come full circle. Might be a separate Brieniverse (not to be confused with the Breeniverse, of course,) but we'll see if the box goes anywhere else.Renamed 1 Foundation Prime to match the Dimensions name. Added Flintstones and Jetsons hidden level info to 3036: Springfield. Added Exo Force speculation to The Sixteen Realms entry. Things to watch for: The Jetsons and Flintstone easter eggs probably indicate future Hanna Barbara level packs. Are we missing any alternate dimensions/universes from DC, Marvel, Doctor Who, or Ghostbusters acknowledged within one of the games? The alternate Cyberman universe from nuWho seems a likely candidate, and I know we've got LEGO Avengers coming up. TC -
Those Pirate themed Mixels look really fun too. :) TC

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
TalonCard replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
So both MetalBeard's Duel and Shipwreck Defense went on sale on Amazon recently, and I got them both yesterday. Already assembled SD; looking foward to putting together MetalBeard...now! :D TC -
It really is more a matter of personal taste than a debatable point, but having assembled both recently I'd argue that the Brick Bounty is really a better ship model than the Caribbean Clipper, and looks as good or better on display. And Shipwreck Defense does more with its 84 parts than just about any other similarly sized Pirate set. (I wouldn't trade my Clipper or Shipwreck Island for these sets; but that's nostalgia talking.) Of course, I would put them all on display if I could. ;) :D That's a great picture--How long did it take to make that Kahuka mask?! It's perfect! I'm curious, how many people count the relatively recent Pirates of the Caribbean sets as some kind of installment in the greater LEGO Pirate genre? Because that was a line that introduced a great amount of variety: an abandoned mill, a treasure cave, water fall, captain's cabin, lighthouse, inn with carriages, and the delightfully ostentatious QAR...I didn't really mind going "back to basics" after those sets. But I could see how going from Pirates 2009>Pirates 2015 could be a bit of a letdown if you didn't really count POTC. (Or the Sea Cow, which is a marvelous, marvelous set.) I guess I just see the kind of variety we'd get from an ongoing theme spread throughout the Pirate-related releases, so I'm more okay with the regular Pirate theme defaulting to a kind of 89/92 tribute whenever it pops up. Maybe I'll get tired of it after twenty years when I've got six or seven red sailed "Brick ______ Bounty" sets sitting on my shelf, I dunno. ;) And the flip side to it staying "classic" is that at least it means we're not actually getting steampunk cyborg pirates fighting Ninjas within the theme itself. (LEGO Battles aside...) If they'd tried to continue the Pirate theme with a new, updated installment each year, I think that's where we'd end up. TC

I really appreciate your post! I've been wanting to post something similar as the generally negative attitude lately surprises me. Allow me to continue injecting positivity into this thread: There has never been a better time to be a LEGO Pirates fan than right now. Call me an old-timer, but I remember the Becalmed Years from 1998-2008 when there were no new proper minifigure Pirate sets whatsoever. (I suppose I shouldn't count 2001-2002 as there were some really nice re-releases, but honestly they were so close to the original availability of the sets that we didn't appreciate them enough.) Guys, there were times I thought I'd never see a new Pirate set. It is so much better now. We've just had this very year a solid wave of Pirate sets. And we've seen at least one Pirate themed release a year since 2009--six years!--which keeps things fun for a completeist like me. I would argue that it's an even better time for Pirates fans than any other--including the oft pined for years of 1989 and 1993. Why? #1. Lots of new Pirate minifigures and pieces. We've got lots of different maps, flags and sails, a wide variety of hats (and now wigs!), bottles, telescopes and old-timy globe pieces. #2. More opportunity for Piratical goodness in nontraditional themes. The LEGO Movie, Collectable Minifigures, Spongebob, Pirates of the Caribbean, Games, Junior, and soon Ninjago have all done a spin on the Pirate theme and have given us some really great stuff. We've even had things like Chess Sets and Advent Calenders that I could only have dreamt of as a kid. And even if you don't want to buy the sets just to get at the Pirate parts... #3. Better aftermarket availability! ...you don't have to! Look, I know Ebay and Bricklink aren't perfect and the prices for complete sets are high. But there was a time, boys and girls, when a set was just gone after it was retired. And if you wanted an extra part or a minifigure from a set you didn't have, you either had to lie to LEGO customer support or do without. Now you can buy almost any part or set you want with relative ease and some patience. #4. Internet shopping. You are all lucky to never have to know the dissappointment of saving for one that particular LEGO set only to find out that every store in your area is sold out. With the plethora of online dealers, especially Amazon, this is pretty much a thing of the past. #5. LEGO Stores. Not really a huge plus in terms of Pirate availiblity, but c'mon. These weren't even a thing when I was a kid, or they were miles and miles away in exotic locations like "Billund" or "Minnesota". (I'm pretty sure that last one isn't even a real place.) Now I live in a city that has three stores that sell only LEGO. One official, two sell used. Isn't that crazy? I know that's a fluke, but wherever you live I can almost guarantee you're closer to an awesome LEGO store now than you would have been in 1993. #6. Really obscure stuff finally coming out of the woodwork. Pirate audio dramas? Pirate books? Overseas commercials? Obscure comics? Sure, technically they were all around back in the 90s, but you never would have seen them if not for places like YouTube, Brickshelf, and this very site. #7. Speaking of which... I think it's amazing that there's a place where people who are just as crazy about LEGO Pirates as I am can come to talk about them. :) Don't wanna get too mushy here, but yeah. Between having ready access to the newer sets, many outlets to pursue the older ones, and tons of inspiration and parts available online if you want to design your own ships and islands, it's just a great time to collect Pirate LEGO. I wouldn't go back to 1989 even if I could. :) TC

Now added as 2505: Scoobyverse. There are quite a few! Some of the more interesting ones are in the Evil Mech, Classic King, Detective, Dino Tracker, Evil Knight, Grandma, Island Warrior, Nurse, Pirate Captain, Sleepyhead, Space Miner and Space Villain bios. Thanks! TC -
Ahoy, captain Redbeard is looking for a ship for over 2 decades now
TalonCard replied to langezwieper's topic in LEGO Pirates
Sea Cow is a great source for ship parts; I would also recommend picking up the Brick Bounty on sale for the flags, sails, and extra hull sections. You could easily get two amazing ships out of that combo and have more than enough left over for a base. -
LEGO Dimensions – Counting the LEGO Multiverse

Updated with the 3048: Midway Arcade universe from Dimensions, which does indeed seem to be a world of arcade game playing rather than one inspired by game storylines. Also learned that Ninjago's latest storyline introduced the Sixteen Realms, which apparently includes 1300A: Underworld, 1300B: Dark Realm, 1300D: Cursed Realm, 1300E: Cloud Kingdom and the Land of Chima, formerly 1500, now (approprietly enough) 1300C. (Those of you who actually watch the show, please feel free to fact check these names.) TC -

So I don't know how I missed this, but in LEGO Jurassic World, during the Jurassic Park III cutscenes, a crashed and buried DeLorean set can be seen at Alan Grant's excavation, with two paleontologists puzzling over it. At first glance, this would seem to be one of the game's many, many throwaway gags, but at the very end of the game there's a flash back to Alan's excavation, where he discovers a portal from LEGO Dimensions--it's all connected. Well played, LEGO. TC -
In the US at least they seem to be offering bonus VIP points on the Brick Bounty that same month...looks like I'm going to get that one earlier than expected. :D TC

So Series 14 of the Collectable Minifigures is going to have a pretty neat zombie pirate captain. I love all the little Pirate surprises we're getting this month. :D Adrick

Clarified (well, sorta) the Ninjago/Universe situation, added 1300A: Garmadon's Dark Dimension (is there an actual name for this?) and 2504 Half-Life-Verse as . An interesting thing to note: Doc Brown is the one who delivers the LEGO Dimensions box to Chell, and while it wasn't obvious at the time, I suspect the Joel McHale character was the one who delivered it to Doc. This indicates that: A., the "parent universe" characters are crossing universes as well, and B., it's the same box being passed around. Can't wait to see where this leads...(By the way, the Portal stuff looks awesome and I haven't even played Portal. Be sure to freeze-frame the Dimensions diagrams; they're hilarious.) TC -

Clearly I need to start freeze-framing through the LEGO Movie; I didn't catch the Fabuland heads, the director cameos, or Bad Cop joining the village people, and you guys don't even want to know how many time I saw that movie, LOL. Oooh, was he quoted anywhere? Woah, I need to actually watch this cartoon... TC -
That set actually looks pretty nifty! Apparently it's the pirate version of this Space set from last year, so it'll have a little booklet with classic Pirate sets and minifigures. :) I love these little sets... TC

Jamesster,I can't think you enough for the summary! I'm still a little confused about Ninjago and LEGO Universe, though. Were the retcons made so that it would fit better into the ongoing Ninjago storyline, or just to explain the expanded Ninjago Monastery game world within the context of LEGO Universe? All of this also begs the question of whether or how much LEGO Dimensions will be acknowledged within the Ninjago storyline as well... Woah, hang on, is this alternate dimension named? We should add it to the list! LOL, exactly. Does the LEGO company from those sets become the LEGO organization in Clutch Powers? Is the entire Classic Space/Futuron program in the 2070s based on the 70s and 80s LEGO sets seen on t-shirts and in the new Town Square set? TC -

Hmm, I hadn't taken a closer look at Ninjago's presense in LEGO Universe. You're right, it is more a shard than a whole planet. The way the LEGO Universe wiki phrases it, though, it seems like it's just a part of the planet that conveniently contains the Ninjago Monestary. But, y'know, it is a wiki. Is there anyone here more familiar with the game? Could it be that a portion of Ninjago did indeed break off at some point during the cartoon, before Lord Garmadon's turn, to allow for the events of LEGO Universe? It's certainly possible that we're dealing with a parallel universe, but given the number of character/story inconsistencies in the past (and that a toyline like LEGO demands a certain amount of flexibility), I don't know that it's quite enough to state definitively. (There have been inconpatible stories and timelines for Adventurers and Pirates too, but I'm not sure it's always grounds for a separate universe designation.) Ah, thanks! I'd seen people doing that, but I didn't know how they'd managed it. Adrick -
I think we need more filters on these games. How about "Sweet Smasher" and "Flora Fighting Living Corpses"? TC

Thanks! Do you think there will be more story elements later on, or is it really just an open ended game like Minecraft? I had to go over to the official Grumpy Sparrows thread to find out what was going on. There seems to be a cycle of bewilderment-amusement-frustration going on over there. It's hard enough to figure out what is going on with Grumpy Sparrows without all this mess, lol. What happens if you actually type "Grumpy Sparrows"? What if I just say Angry Bird? Or Angry Birding? Or Birds Angry? If I keep posting Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows Grumpy Sparrows, will someone finally notice and fix the flipping filter? What if I just need to complain about some actual Grumpy Sparrows? And why was this even funny in the first place? It's only hilarious now that they're actually going to make LEGO Grumpy Sparrows sets but we can't actually say Grumpy Sparrows. It's like we're stuck on some lame TV show with made up computer applications like Browser Hound and Search Berzerk. There are galactic coordinates in LEGO Worlds? TC -

You guys are the best. :) I didn't even see the Midway announcement--I can't seem to find the announcement video with the games you mentioned, though, can you post a link? I think we may need to hold off on adding the Midway universes until we see what they have planned for those levels/sets. If the main build is actually a game cabinet, with the Dimensions world being some kind of arcade, say, that would be different from the fictional universe of Robotron/Defender. Unlikely, but we'll see how it plays (ha ha!) out. Here's another one to watch: LEGO is producing sets for the upcoming DC Super Hero Girls Universe franchise. Now in the past, LEGO has seemed to indicate that its Superheros always come from one universe even when they are clearly based on wildly different movies/cartoons/comics, but this may prove the exception to the rule. I suspect they may be using friends style minidolls, which doesn't automatically mean that it'll be different from #3012, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Lind, I really think you're describing the LEGO universe consisting of all the various minifigure themes--I suspect it's #1300; it's just never been defined officially. Space Police III connects to Classic Space and the two previous Police sub-themes, which connect to all previous Space themes from 1987-1998, and to Time Cruisers, which is connected to just about everything else. It's difficult to lock these things down officially, though, because there are also clearly LEGO universes where individual themes exist on their own, unconnected to any kind of history. Updates for this round: Ghostbusters confirmed for Dimensions, Big Bang Theory set actually given a release date, universe #3046: Piggy Island added thanks to the Grumpy Sparrows announcement. What is the deal with Grumpy Sparrows, anyway? Also, what about LEGO Worlds--is there any connection between this game and existing themes/games? Does it have any kind of storyline? TC -

Updated the list with 3008A: Duckworld and 2502: Back to the Futureverse ( ). It's possible that this is actually the same as the 2007 Honey universe, but as I suspect we will see more franchises represented in these ads I'm making them separate for the time being.TC -

LOL, you can see how kooky this gets. ;) I also think we have to assume that there are just some sets/parts in Finn's universe that don't exist in our own. If Finn is just playing out a version of something he saw in a movie; it kinda negates his own creativity.
