  1. I would probably prefer bricks with knobs because if you used the angular plates, then that would increase the height of the top of that section by 1/3 of a brick. If I am trying to close the area up above that section with bricks, I would have to stack 2 plates to even it out, which requires more parts overall.
  2. I personally do not watch the show, but sometimes my kids do. This seems to have good potential to get approved if the licensing is no problem. The figures are instantly recognizable.
  3. $200 is steep, but after watching the video and seeing the photos, I am very interested. This Saturday, I plan on going to the Lego Store with my boys. They might be the only ones coming home with something while I save up for this thing.
  4. Tried to click on it and it said that it is a private page.
  5. I also prefer to be a little more realistic than optimistic. So far, the video game packs we know about contain only minifigs that were already made. Any day now, we will know the fate of the Minas Tirith project, and I am expecting it to be rejected due to the part count. I am even doubtful about the History Museum, which is the first triple digit item I think really has a chance. On a little bit more of a positive note, I do find it interesting that Lego is including LOTR in the new game. Is it the only discontinued theme in the game? It seems like everything else is either current or new, like the Wizard of Oz. Part of me would like to think that Lego is testing the waters to see what the demand for LOTR really is, and producing anything at all related to it is at least an acknowledgment that there is some demand out there. Of course, the core group already has those minifigs, and I hypothesize that the Witch King would outsell Legolas by a large margin. As others have said, everyone is entitled to an opinion, whether it seems positive or negative to someone.
  6. It looks interesting and quite colorful as many Ferris Wheels go. Hopefully it will not be near the $200 range although I fear it might be. If given a choice between this and the Detective Office (difficult to afford everything!), I could very well go for the Ferris Wheel. Is there a possibility that the title of the thread could be changed reflect the Ferris Wheel now that we know it is the successor to the Fairground Mixer?
  7. I would really like to have the Admiral Yularen minifig, but in the US, the threshold is $75, and it has to be all in Star Wars purchases! I cannot afford the big $200 sets, and already have the other OT sets I want right now. We are planning on going to the Lego store this Saturday, but not necessarily for Star Wars sets. And yes, I am trying to figure out how that Tie Fighter is worth $200.
  8. Most pirate sailors have only one eye, so their navigators, captains, and gunmen cannot see very well.
  9. If anyone manages to successfully get a replacement for the hull piece, please let us know. I have held off on requesting another one with the assumption that they will simply send another faulty piece.
  10. With the reduction of PAB availability in stores due to the build-a-model program, perhaps they might eventually expand the online selection.
  11. I stand corrected. After further examination and taking a photo, I have what is pictured in post 65. Dont know how I initially missed this either, I guess with the Lego factories going full steam to produce a variety of sets in different lines, quality control suffers. In Pirates alone, you have the ship defect, the chess set instructions errors, the wrong face on the admiral, and the golden cutlass on the online description that does not exist in the product. I would expect more from a premium product.
  12. I have looked at the ship twice and cannot find a defect. Perhaps not every single ship has the problem. The defect in the photo is very noticeable and would be easy to spot. I held that thing in the light and put my readers glasses on to be sure. If there is a problem, it is far less noticeable than what was pictured.
  13. Thought about a Dukes set, but you know what will kill that idea: the nice Confederate flag on top of the General Lee. A shame too, since it would be as iconic as Ecto 1 or the Mystery Machine.
  14. I think most people are simply hoping for something new to fill in the gaps left from the line. Faramir, the Witch King, Eowyn, a Gondor Soldier, etc. would probably warrant a purchase. I will not spring for Gimli, Legolas, Gollum, or Gandalf, because we already have them. Even if you alter the print ever so slightly to make it unique (ie ketchup stain Gimli, untucked shirt Legolas, Gollum with a 1mm smirk more than the previous one) etc, I still will not buy it.
  15. So then the only way to really be sure that you will not have the defect would be for Lego to send you TWO of those parts and test fit it in advance to be sure it does not have the defect. It will solve that particular problem, but this is really bad news for people who want to MOC their own ships. Just imagine ordering this piece from Bricklink and having the flaw when you combine it with another part you got from somewhere else. If you have to order it, there is no way of telling whether or not it is going to work out until it is too late. If I MOC a ship, it would probably be best to buy those parts in person and make sure they fit together.
  16. There could be some truth to that. My boys are mainly interested in Ninjago. They chose those sets over Pirates when they were given a choice. No one in our house is interested in Chima. Perhaps the theme particularly appeals to people coming out of their dark ages or reliving the age of earlier sets. Granted, there is obviously some interest in Pirates from young children, but it does have fierce competition from other lines.
  17. Too bad a new castle line could not pit the "White Tree" faction against the "Red Flaming Eye" group.
  18. If I had a project with a lot of votes and was not facing the big deadline, my hope would probably be NOT to reach 10,000 votes until after the cutoff for the current round. Who would want to compete against the ones BirdOPrey5 mentioned and possibly others? It does seem like some review periods are more competitive than others. Earlier, I was kind of hoping the piano would not hit 10000 until the next review, because it now goes up against the History Museum and Minas Tirith. Timing can be an important factor in the Lego Ideas process.
  19. We have been to Brugge and this brings back good memories. Belgian chocolate has no equal. This certainly is true to the local architecture.
  20. Apparently, Golden Girls does have some sort of cult following, but the real question is, how many of the people supporting will actually buy it? You are pretty much relying on a certain adult population to buy this. In theory, if it was made into a set, the interested parties will have to either go into a Lego store, buy it online, or go to a Toys R Us that carries it. In other words, they are probably going to have to actively seek it out. It will not be on a Walmart end stand as they make their usual store run. Then, are they prepared to pay the retail price. No doubt, some of these people who just saw it on Yahoo are expecting it to be below $20. What are they going to do when they find out it is $50? Are they that interested in Golden Girls? Yes, I know some people will buy it, whether they are collectors, fans of the show, or what not, but this seems like a very narrow target audience. I can visualize this on the Ideas shelf collecting dust. Just an opinion of course. Still no official comment from Lego. They are probably looking up the term "Golden Girls" to figure out what this is.
  21. If sitcoms is now the way to go, how about the Brady Bunch? We can finally get that house with three bedrooms and one bathroom! I would also like to see a Good Times set. JJ could be in his Kid Dynomite outfit. I vignette based on the projects would be interesting. Oh, the possibilities. One project with a large growth spurt is the HMS Beagle (Darwin's ship) It is more recent, but looks like it is on pace to get 10,000 without too much trouble.
  22. Battlestar Galactica (old or new) would destroy our budget.
  23. Creator will give you the most detailed buildings and you will learn some interesting build techniques that you might use later on if you desire to create your own structures and vehicles. City is good for vehicles, however some of the liscsenced themes might help you out as well. You will definitely need to purchase extra train track for the trains and will probably be looking at both baseplates and roadplates as an option for augmenting your city. If you live near a Lego store, that will be helpful as you can see many of the sets in person and purchase the accessories there as well. The pick a brick wall can help expand your collection of loose bricks quickly if they have what you need. Of course, be sure to look at the many threads people have on Eurobricks featuring their own town setups. Quite a bit of it is inspiring!
  24. If the UCS rumor is true, I would guess either a really big ship, or a smaller ship with other structures. Count me in with those hoping for a bluecoat vessel. We already have two sets that go together to produce a fort. Sure, a larger fort or town structures would be nice, but like others, I unfortunately came out of my dark ages after the Imperial Flagship came out.
  25. It could be referencing the Miner 49er as a sort of Easter Egg. In the LOTR, the Tower of Orthanc set had some stickers that referenced other characters that were never made (two other wizards).
