LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
AFOLguy1970 replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
So I see they are releasing a Droid Escape set with jawas? If so, this is great news as I have yet to acquire an R2D2, C3PO, or a jawa. Originally, I had planned on purchasing the advent calendar, but now I will probably just wait until this set comes out. Sure, having an extra OT stormtrooper, an Ewok, and a rebel would be nice, but it is really the droids and the jawa I want the most. Besides, I assume the torso for C3PO in the advent calendar would be in a Christmas theme, thus not making it useful to use the minifig in any other capacity. Even though the Carbonite chamber set is supposed to be small, if the minifig selection is good, then this is also great news. I honestly was not expecting much for OT with the new movie coming, so this is a nice surprise. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
1.Rarely. Sometimes, you see a "Retiring Soon" label on the S&H site, however most of the time, when it is gone, it is gone. 2. There is not always a set pattern. Town Hall sold out before Pet Shop, even though PS is the older of the two. 3. My advice: get the Pet Shop now. I suspect it could be gone by the end of the year, maybe sooner than later. 4. They tend to happen sometime around March, October, and around Black Friday. Length of the promotion varies. In October, it is only for four days in the US> -
It has some interesting build techniques, especially with the greenhouse. It is definitely unusual with all of the purple features, but it does make an interesting display piece. The minifig selection is very good with the three classic "monsters". With Velma going for insane amounts on BL and Ebay, I would go ahead and get the set.

Licensed Sets LEGO Missed the Ball On/Never Made
AFOLguy1970 replied to adotnamedstud's topic in LEGO Licensed
The problem with LOTR is fairly obvious to anyone who looks at the LOTR pinned thread on the History board. To those who are unfamiliar with the trilogy, I will sum it up in a nutshell. Imagine the most epic battle and one of the most important factions of a fantasy theme trilogy being completely omitted. Imagine the most powerful creature in the first movie and an incredible scene being completely overlooked. Also, try to imagine the key villian and his primary lieutenant not making the cut either. Then, imagine having the two biggest slots in a release of four sets being based on extended edition scenes. The movie features armies and epic battles, yet we get only one battle pack which does not feature the main body of the main "bad guy" army. The good guys feature a named character and the only unnamed good guy soldier in the trilogy. In a theme made for battle packs, that was the only one, and it retailed at $30. This is what we got. -
They are so profitable now, that I think they are starting to wean people off of double VIP points. The monthly promo sets now have a much higher purchase threshold than before. In the US, it is sometimes $100 to get the extra freebie. The PAB holiday boxes disappeared last year, and many people who got the invite to enter the store early on Black Friday also felt like the deals and goodies were lackluster compared to previous years. I guess they no longer feel like they have to offer as many promotions to get people to buy Lego.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Actually, a lot of Lego designers do visit EB. The DO feedback on this message board strongly mirrored many of the comments on the online Lego site regarding the critique of the set. I do believe they are fully aware of the various opinions. And like some others, I am beginning to think that there might not be a Jan 1 release. We do not even have a name for any future modular. At this time last year, we at least had the name and were waiting for the photos. -
Man spends 3yrs building 'worlds biggest Lego model...
AFOLguy1970 replied to grum64's topic in General LEGO Discussion
He still has the better looking model which is far more detailed than the longer one. Both are great, but the difference between 3 years of building and several months is obvious. -
[MOC] Detective's Office/Newsagent/Barber Shop modulars

Excellent work. I like the secretary office on the second floor and the roof addition. This is what I wish they had done with the original release -
S@H does it always take that long?
AFOLguy1970 replied to CaptainToad's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The online PAB originates in Strykow, Poland. As for method of shipping on regular orders, I noticed they use Fedex quite a bit. If there has been a delay in the order, then they use Fedex door to door. If they ship on time, then they use Fedex part of the way and USPS the rest of the way. Fedex literally hands it off to the local carrier. -

AFOLguy1970 replied to CaptainToad's topic in General LEGO Discussion
S@H allows you to check the order status and see if there is a tracking number. If it says something like "Processing" or "In Warehouse", then the item has not shipped yet. Once it ships, they do usually provide a tracking number within 24 hours. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think a release would go far better as long as it is not the long awaited yearly event. The "ideal" situation would be to release a brand new one in January and then maybe introduce the rerelease later in the year. That way, most people are happy. Those who want a new modular get one and those who missed out on a classic such as CC or GG can own one. A rerelease would likely have some cosmetic changes and updates. That way, if you owned the "original", it would still be that. It seems like there are two extremes. You either never release something made before, which would dash the hopes of the vast majority of ever owning a CC, GG, Galaxy Explorer, Eiffel Tower, Taj Majal, Grand Carousel, UCS Millenium Falcon, etc. The other extreme would be to redo every popular set, which would stifle shelf space for new ideas. Maybe there is a happy medium in there somewhere. I can see both sides of the argument. Those who already own the sets certainly will not be excited, and might feel cheated that they own something that they perceive might not be as valuable as it once was due to the new and improved version now existing. Then, there are those who recently emerged out of the dark ages or simply were not alive at the time that Lego made that awesome Taj Majal set. I would personally welcome a "new" CC or GG. At the rate I am going with bricklinking parts for a GG, eventual arthritis will probably prevent me from ever finishing it. -
That advent calendar will probably sell out very quickly. It has the latest OT stormtrooper, an ewok, and a Jawa in it. In no set could you even get one of these for less than $100.

It looks nice, but it is not something that seems necessary to have.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I would love to see GG come back. Sure, resellers and Bricklink shops specializing in sand green would hate it, but it would allow people who missed it the first time around to own one at a reasonable price. If they were willing to make a rehashed Toy Shop the annual WV release, then why not do it with a modular. Of course, the down side is that there would be nothing new for at least another year for those who do have it. Maybe if they released a new one AND a new one? Over the course of a year, we lost GE, TH, and probably very soon, PS. So maybe there could be some room. It seems like CC is a bit dated, and would benefit from a few changes. GG, on the other hand, would need very little in the way of change. I am kind of glad the arcade rumor is suspect as I was not looking forward to yet another overdone interior and possibly with a bunch of stickers. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
This is an excellent point. Since the modular line is presented under the "Creator" series, it would imply to me that you could make different things out of a set. Many of the smaller Creator sets do offer a choice of two or even three different designs. I have seen some good alternate builds on other sites involving TH, GE, and PC particularly because they offered a lot of parts with one or two main colors. DO is such a hodgepodge of parts, that if I bought one, it would be very challenging to figure out what else could be MOCed from it without leaving a large quantity of unused parts. I really hope the new modular has one or two dominant colors so that it would offer the potential to try and create something. Maybe the new one will be satisfying enough that I would want one copy of the building itself and then another to create my own building. So far, I have only one each of some of the modulars but would be open to buying multiples if it made a great parts pack for designing something else. -
what would it take to cut out LEGO from your life?
AFOLguy1970 replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
(1) A collapse in the financial system and/or loss of job (2) Similar to Exetrius above, moving to a place with beautiful scenery and outdoor activities would definitely slow down my collecting (3) If we started having frequent blackouts at night, I would revert to my astronomy hobby more and start spending money on related equipment (4) Even if Lego totally declared war on AFOLS and made no sets suitable for adults, I could hold on as long as loose parts were available for making MOCs. But if Bricklink and PAB were no longer an option, that would be a factor. -
Which Scooby-Doo Guest Star(s) Should Appear in a Set?
AFOLguy1970 replied to legoman19892's topic in LEGO Licensed
Batman and Robin are probably the only ones that both AFOLS and kids know. Sure, I would love a Don Knotts or Sonny and Cher among others, but kids have no idea who they are and would not share the same excitement as some of us older folks. With the upcoming Lego Ideas marble maze set, if they do use sports balls in the set, perhaps they would make a basketball. That would work in favor of promoting a Harlem Globetrotter. -
That is about how I feel. In fact, if I had nothing more than the Mystery Machine and the Mystery Mansion it would not bother me. All you really need is the gang and the Mystery Machine. Having some of the more well known villians is nice, but they are secondary. There are a couple of missed opportunities in the wave, but they are fairly minor. You mentioned one: Velma without glasses. As common as the gag was on the show, I was a bit surprised she did not have a double sided face without glasses on one side. Maybe they could actually produce an eyeglass mold to go along with the minifig as if she is looking for them. The other thing they kind of missed was Fred's traps. If they tried to incorporate a trap of some type into a set, it would certainly be an interesting play feature, which is always something Lego is fond of doing. Regardless, this will be a successful theme due to the nostalgia at the older level and the familiarity with the younger kids.

LEGO Ideas Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Had the Natural History Museum been made, I do not think it would have conflicted at all with the Scooby Museum Mystery. The Scooby set is not an actual structure, it is simply an Egyptian mummy exhibit. If anything, I think the museum would have actually encouraged more purchases of the Scooby set, because it would have been a great addition to the museum. That was actually my plan up until they shot down the museum. -
Just stopped by the Toys R Us in Hurst, TX. All sets are in. My son got an Airjitzu Ninjago spinner while I snagged a Mystery Machine. Sometime later on, I will go for the big set to get Velma, Daphne, and those monsters. The markup was $3. I guess it is not too bad. It would have cost me more in gas money to drive to the Lego store in Dallas to pick it up.

I wonder if Toys R Us is going to get them ahead of other stores a couple weeks in advance like they do with many sets. If so, that would mean their appearance is imminent. Maybe I will swing by later today just for the fun of it. Hopefully they will not mark them up, at least not right away as they did with some of the Star Wars sets last year.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
If it is indeed an arcade, I wonder if this means something like a classic 1980's arcade with video games, or perhaps something older like a penny arcade. In those days, there were a variety of different games, many of which were mechanical and not electronic. This could mean something where you have air hockey, skee ball, pinball machines, and some of the older games. Perhaps they could be designed in such a way not to make stickers necessary. I know Palace Cinema took a lot of criticism for having stickers in a premium set, even though there was really no other way to get around the poster and marquee placements. The only concern left concerning an arcade, whether modern or older, would be the piece count dedicated to it. To make details without stickers, you need to use lots of smaller pieces. Done right, this could be a good modular, but there are some concerns. -
Agreed. I sense an "Out of Stock, Item will ship in 30 days" status online about halfway through August 1st with a run on them in the stores as well. We will be on vacation that day, so I may have to wait a while. The stickers do seem like a necessary evil in this case, so the use of them is understandable. It should be a great seller due to the combination of being iconic and affordable. Unlike the Death Star, Helicarrier, Ninjago Temple, and other sets, it is actually affordable for most kids.

The PAB wall was pretty dismal yesterday. Most bins are for PAM, and I have yet to see anyone actually buy one. In fact, no one was really even giving the wall a glance. Most of the non-model parts were 2x4 or 2x6 bricks. The balance of the non-PAM parts was mainly some unsold parts from the previous giraffe model. The models have completely ruined the PAB wall. The new alligator uses a green plate hinge. If those were available in grey, tan, white, or some building color, I would have left with a cup full of it. The build a minifigure section is nothing to write home about either. You have a decent variety of heads and pants, but most of the torsos and headgear were the same. There were hardly any accessories at all. You had to dig to find some. If you are seeking the sad clown's cap, this is your day. It seems like build a minifigure is just a way to get rid of excess minifigure parts as it is hard to build something that does not look completely silly.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting.... If it is to be an arcade, the questions would then be: What style of architecture is the structure? What will be above the arcade/first level? Will there be brick built letters to spell "arcade" or perhaps "games" ? Will this be a corner structure as everyone expects?
