That is a great MOC! Thanks so much for sharing. I love you attention to detail, especially the built in ladder on the side of the hull (sorry I notice the strangest of things). The scale is huge, I wouldn't want to mess with that bad boy! As for string, you might be able to get away with very little actually because from what it seems you are at about a similiar scale as this previously mentioned MOC. I really like this approach to rigging. I'm sure you'll figure something out that blows us away! Thanks for sharing.

I don't have the exact name of the stuff right now because I'm at work (hee, hee) but it's basically foam paper from Walmart, you can also get it from different craft stores too. Some would rather work with cloth but I find this is extremely sturdy and doesn't fray. I also like that you don't have to iron or worry so much about dust. I have a small hole punch which works really well and I don't have to worry about rips and tears in my rigging...

Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?
SirScottLego replied to SirScottLego's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yes oo7 you are right there is another discussion going on centering on the the Reality v. Fantasy discussion I think however Skaforhire has taken this a new direction which is kind of fun to follow. (Maybe we should encourage him to start a new thread with his ideas, I'd love to explore his plots) From what I see that discussion in the other thread is "macro lego" and we are talking "micro" or pirate specific. I honestly didn't know that other thread was going on if I did that would have made me a pirate indeed! ;-) So to modify the purpose of this thread to keep in harmony with my original intent, I would like to ask, In terms of the Lego Pirate Theme-had it continued would you have liked to have seen in go more "romantic" history as Mister Phes points out, or pure fantasy as POTC is leaning? and is there a difference? -

Great discussion. Thanks oo7 for pointing out a similiar thread, I do hope there is some merit discussing this here in that I would love to see this center on the whole pirate genre however. Ska- what a brilliant imagination. I love the Treasure seeker ideas! Sign me up to your newsletter! *sweet* JackDagger and Tiber, I think you have some strong valid points. The one thing that fantasy and imagination allow is a bridging of themes. I've often thought that you could marry pirate, castle and even some adventure (amazon temple) together with a conceptual story i.e. Treasure seekers of the 1700's. Heck you can even use many of the Western and Viking wood for outposts. I just want to see 'pirates' as the central theme. Great comments. -
Makes a lot more sense. After I looked at it closer I figured there had to be steps, just hard to see in black. The ship is awesome really so don't change it too much if you do. I'm glad the decals work for you, I've got some more that I haven't posted yet that I'll try to send you. Thanks again for a great ship!

Okay POTC is building an empire out of blurring the line between historical reality and adventure fiction. With immortal tortured souls, to a kraken, to hammer head shark sailors, the trilogy has really incorporated fantasy into the overall plot. My question is... how do you feel about building fantasy into Lego themes? Megablok's (cursed be the name) pirate line is almost devoid of historical soliders and is really heavy with fictional sea monsters and cursed ships... Do you like this approach? Personally, I love the historical and mostly accurate approach to building but I can see the enjoyment of bringing some of the fantasy in to- what do you think?

When I was looking at your photo at http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1898587 I wondered if the side windows were at the knee level of the soliders on the deck. If so are there steps down to the cabin from the deck? (I couldn't really tell) That's all that meant with the placement, it could have also been the angle of the photo. At any rate I love your MOC and I can't wait for the photos of the cabin and interior!

As I look at by gummy your right! Those sails are too low to the ship. As with all my collection they are in boxes in my basement but I anticipate pulling them out of the depths of Davey Jones locker in about two weeks, then I will make the recommended changes. Thanks mate!

Edit by Phred: This topic has been merged with Mr. Phes' topic on the same ship. Although I've had my ships already posted on Brickshelf, I haven't yet introduced them. In the next few weeks I hope to start building again, but in the interim I thought I'd show this community and ask for comments and suggestions. The SMS Austin is a strong corvette style frigate with 26 custom cannons and deck room for more! Please feel free to critic, I'll be building again shortly. for more links visit... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1360488 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1360477 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1360471 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1360474 P.S. Yes that is an admiral with my custom sticker. I'll try to post a closer shot in the future.

In all it's a nice ship. I can't help but wonder the dude in the crow's nest... How does he get down? I also noticed that you have a crane coming off the tall mast, does it swivel? What's it's purpose? The placement seems a little odd. Overall, I really like what you are trying to accomplish. The hull is a peice of crap but you've managed to make it usable... I'm with MisterPhes and wish you could have elongated the ship. But really it does look nice. Congrats!

What a great ship. I echo the positive comments of those before, I think you scale looks right on. I do like the "white line" you were able to continue around the ship. This is often difficult to pull off with the brown hull and black sides. I also was wondering about the side window and it's placement, but again, this is a beautiful MOC. Thanks for sharing!

I love your MOC. I really thought you gave some great detail to the ship. I especially like your telescope on the deck. I don't mind the color scheme, the choice of colors you used are generally hard to pull together but I think you did a fine job. Thanks for sharing!

Brilliant work! Thanks for taking the time to create these nice wallpapers. I especially like the first.

Imperial Barrack and Island of punishment
SirScottLego replied to Captain Roger's topic in Pirate MOCs
I really enjoyed looking at the MOC, I even noticed that the pirate in the top right corner is just hitting the guard over the head with the handle of the revolver rather than shooting him! That pirate had better hit him hard or that guard is going to come back really mad! *sweet* -
Adm Matthew, I absolutely love you designs. I really like how you've created the added detail of epaulettes (they are such a pill to find now days!) Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks Mr Tiber! Correct me if I'm wrong anybody but English Marines were often called "lobsters" because of thier bright red coats... I think you're right another belt would be a great addition. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ahoy! I know a couple of you have asked about my torso design in a previous thread. (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2760) Yes it was a custom, for awhile I got into the whole Horatio Hornblower series and I designed a series of stickers that fit with the period... Enjoy the admiral, a merchant and a lobster marine Admiral: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1917953 Merchant (Might be used for confederate army in another world) http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1917965 Lobster Marine: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1917956 I hope to post a couple of my moc minifigs in the future too! Thanks for your critics...

Ska- thanks for your comments. It's great to hear from you again. I thought for sure I was in the depths of davey jones locker without a place to explore my hobby. Yes, I am most attracted to later period design, I am looking for some inspiration on some forts, if you happen to come across any. Great to hear from you! Sail on Matey!

Thanks for the brilliant information. I will have to try in the coming weeks. I like the pure black for a "black pearl" type ship, just wish the hulls in black were wider.

Ahoy, By accident I fell upon this forum and thread. Mister Phes truly is an honest man for bringing my ships to your attention and not taking credit himself. I appreciate all the kind words and appreciate even more the criticism for that will help me become a better builder. Just so you know, the minifig torso is a custom torso, after much research I designed the "admiral" after costumes from the Horatio Hornblower series. (I hope to share my custom stickers in the future). Both this ship and two others in my fleet were modeled after American frigates from the War of 1812, during this time period the real American ships like the Constitution, Constellation and Wasp didn't have high profiles i.e. tall cabin areas... I struggle with proportions when I design tall cabins because I think I make ships look too "back heavy", suggestions are appreciated. For an example of my back heavy ship SMS Marie visit- http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1360492 Again, I appreciate the class act of Mister Phes and everybody's critics and comments. May we meet again soon on these high seas. SirScottLego http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=steichert I'll share more about my custom cannons and why I have chosen foam sails in the future but I do look forward to meeting you all... Now bring me that horizon!
