  1. If you follow my Flickr page you've probably already seen most of this build, but I've finally finished and released the interior and I wanted to finally show it off here as well! Before we get started, I just want to say that I have videos of the entire build process up to watch here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6NWVRJbOK_Wf6wTjVffuE-f5U9SeC-L6 This ship was mostly modelled after the standard MC80 Liberty, but with a few small modifications. I wanted to recreate Hera Syndulla's ship from the comics, called the Geist. The Geist is actually canonically a different class of ship, however the comics generally aren't a good source material. So I just decided to base if off the MC80, and I added a few command bridges to make it more accurate to the comic. Overall I'm very happy with the shaping on the ship. It was very anxiety-inducing, but I'm proud of how it turned out. The interior took a bit of work, since interiors have never been my strong suit, but ultimately I think it looks alright. I also created some custom minifigures, as you can see, for the interior. I recreated Hera's crew based on what we saw in the comics, and included Numa from Star Wars Rebels in there as well. Mostly because I really like her and wanted to make a figure of her. Thanks for viewing! I hope you enjoyed, I look forward to any comments or feedback!
  2. I was really excited for this contest until I saw that no digital entries are allowed. Oh well, perhaps next time!
  3. I have to say, Boat and Narwhal Rescue will probably be the first Friends set I ever buy. Something about it is just so appealing, same goes for the submarine set. The new coral color really compliments this line, and the new coral/sea life molds are fantastic. I haven't kept up with Friends too much, but it really looks to me like the set designers outdid themselves this year.
  4. Quite a number of people in this thread have expressed disappointment that the cockpit isn't brickbuilt. Stickers are an issue, but not a big of one to justify so many complaints about the entire set, most of the ones I'm referring to were made before we even knew that the cockpit used stickers.
  5. Ya the price is a little high, but for whatever reason the Tantive IV models have always been like that. The original 10019 was the same price for almost exactly the same number of pieces. Adjusted for inflation it would be about $290, in comparison this is a much better deal. It's only a little bit shorter too, though that's mostly because the updated proportions make it longer than the other two have been compared to their widths. Perhaps all the large parts contribute to the higher prices?
  6. I really do not understand all of the negativity surrounding this set. The proportions are better than LEGO has ever gotten them, by a good margin. The previous two sets are really short and fat compared to the actual ship, this model fixes that. Sure the cockpit is a bit large, but given the alternative I absolutely agree with their choice and it really isn't a big deal. The set shows a huge improvement over the last one if you compare them. I think everyone's being a bit blinded by nostalgia, there is absolutely no doubt that this new set is leagues better than the last one from an objective standpoint. So much more detailed, way better proportions, and overall a much more accurate set. I think the only real complaint there is to be had about this set is that, if you're a stickler for accuracy, the cockpit wasn't brick-built. Personally, I really like that it has an interior. We don't get enough capital ship sets, especially not for the rebels. And given the level of detail and accuracy I have absolutely no problem displaying this alongside UCS sets.
  7. Tell me about it, luckily the models in the new SWBF games are supposedly made from scans of the original studio models. Had to download a ripped model just to get a good look at the ships underside.
  8. Thank you! To figure out the colors I actually found some pictures of the Star Wars Armada model, which has similar paint to what I was going for, and increased the saturation to make it easier for me. Then I just went back and forth between the picture and model coloring in the sections that needed it.
  9. Oh yes absolutely! Gonne need to do a few less complex models before I'm up to something like this again for sure. Thank you both! I can definitely see a few studs here and there adding to the look
  10. Thank you! Raskolnikov's WIP pics were definitely a big help and inspiration, as well as pretty much any Mon Calamari MOC made so far. Never attempted curves like this so I tried to study up, and even so they were pretty stressful! I'm really glad the final design turned out well, I have a few more very curvy ships planned (mostly from the Halo franchise, though Star Wars too). I actually recorded the entire building process! Planning to release the recording sped up alongside the interior, shouldn't be more than a month from now at most. Proper instructions will come at a later time, but are definitely planned.
  11. I've almost run out of ships I'd like to build at the 1:400 scale I've been working with, so I decided to start a smaller scale to increase my options! The Geist is the command ship of General Hera Syndulla, as seen in the Hope Dies comic arc. While it may be a different model, the art in the comic is ambiguous enough that I feel comfortable making it a variant of the MC80 with additional command bridges for fleet coordination. 1:1250 scale 120 studs long 4178 pieces The ship has a full interior. It features a bridge, briefing room, armory, and hangar. However it will be shown off at a later date, alongside some figure designs for Numa and Hera's crew from the comic.
  12. Looks fantastic, especially for your first big MOC! The cone is definitely a hard thing to replicate, but I think you did a great job! Really looking forward to your future MOCs.
  13. This figure looks pretty boring to me, personally. The use of all white parts with the very little orange peaking out underneath makes it looks rather bland. I would have loved to see a different, or even a new, mold used instead. Or at least something to introduce some more color. Perhaps the other figures will be a bit more exciting though!
  14. Might be worth updating that in the rules, before more people get confused. It currently says to post them in the Special Themes forum. Fun contest! I look forward to participating.
  15. Yes I agree the shaping is excellent, great use of the ring and some of those new pieces!
  16. Thanks! I think I tried that actually, but I wanted it to be consistent with the "windows" on the bottom black part of the ship, and I thought white for all of the worked just a bit better than trans-light blue for all of them. Some trans-light blue tiles with printing may have actually been perfect though, in hindsight.
  17. It's a recreation of the Lancer-class Frigate that was introduced in the Thrawn Trilogy and subsequently appeared in various video games and comics.
  18. I've been sitting on this build for a few weeks in hopes of releasing a time-lapse video of the build process, but I realized this morning that I had accidentally deleted all of the footage. So anyway, now that that's no longer holding me back, I guess it's time to show it off! I had a lot of fun working on this build, it has a lot of interesting shapes and the circular region in back was a fun challenge. Overall I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's in the same scale as my other Star Wars ships for those who have seen them. Thanks for viewing! You can check out my other ships and such on my Flickr, linked in my signature.
  19. I don't think they're saying that he's inappropriate for young children at all, but rather that young children would prefer getting other figures from the movie and don't find him as appealing. He was in the movie to make some jokes, but kids will only really know him from that joke. There are lots of figures in the movie that will never make it to physical form. I think it's pretty safe to say that our only hope for ever getting him was in a CMF series 2, if that's not happening then there's really nowhere he'd work.
  20. Most leaks are accessible on instagram these days, just search for leaks and you'll find it
  21. Looks like some of the torsos for the space line have leaked. They're definitely Mars Mission-inspired. I really like the logo though, it seems like a much more modern version of the classic space logo. I'd love to see this version used more!
  22. They likely simply cut the scene where the cut vehicles would have shown up, and didn't have time to fit it into the scenes that we saw.
  23. So when Emmet doesn't change, it's out of character. But Benny changing is out of character as well? Also Benny was still his happy joyful self once they got to the Systar system, freaking out like that is absolutely something he would have done in the first movie too. Fits his character perfectly. Myabe not after they get to the Systar system, but she was absolutely super aggressive in Apocalypseburg. Which is the whole point. Unikitty is not an aggressive character normally, so when she returns to normal she isn't aggressive at all. Wildstyle absolutely does look down on Emmet at the beginning, but she completely changes her opinion of him by the end of the movie. She doesn't think that it's good he's "pathetic" (which, btw he is not, and if you think he is you've clearly missed a major point of the movie), but she realizes that his optimism and positive attitude in the face of even societal collapse actually make him a very strong character, and are things she should appreciate instead of looking down on. I think you just got a bad translation. In the english version, Sweet Mayhem points out that Lucy did all the fighting and Emmet took all the credit. Which is obviously technically correct and can't be refuted directly, but Lucy absolutely does defend him regardless. Sure, she did most of the fighting, but she points out that Emmet was absolutely crucial to their survival. Like she says, you don't have to be a warrior to be a hero. And Lucy being a warrior doesn't detract from Emmet's heroism, which is the angle Lucy took when defending him. Asserting that he was a warrior and Sweet Mayhem was completely wrong not only would have been lying, but would have completely detracted from the lessons learned in the first movie. No, Rex is not right. In Rex's universe, he flies off to save his friends just like is shown in the movie, but ends up crashing in the asteroid field and flying under the dryer. All of his friends had just been kidnapped, and not only had no way of knowing he was even coming after them at all, but could not have possibly known where he went. And everyone back at Apocalypseburg probably just assumed he suffered the same fate as everyone else who went to the Systar system. Remember, Emmet is the only character who even knows that a world exists outside of their LEGO universe. I'm sure they did look for him, but it's literally impossible for them to find him. And no, "they could have just time travelled" is not a good alternative. Also, it would take years before Rex would be able to move enough to get himself out from under the dryer and back to his friends. And by that point, he had convinced himself they didn't care and had no reason to go back. "Mary Sue" can apply to characters of all sex, but in order to do that you kind of have to stay away from the phrase "every female character is a Mary Sue." And you especially have to stay away from the assertion that all of the male characters are not. Every character in this movie had flaws and learned lessons. I can't see a single one that you could seriously argue was a "Mary Sue." You really took some interesting lessons away from this movie. First of all, there were not seperate lessons for the male and female characters. The daughter (and by extension, the residents of the Systar System, many of which are male) learned that she has to communicate her intentions better. The son (and by extension, the residents of Apocalypseburg, many of which are female) learns that growing up doesn't mean you have to get all hardcore and edgy. This lesson is portrayed through Lucy, and her learning to appreciate Emmet for who he is. And both characters learn how to appreciate their differences and play together. And all of these are absolutely great messages for kids to hear. One, nobody was accusing you of anything. Frankly your comments do read as a bit sexist, but pointing that out isn't the same as saying "you are sexist." It's important to be able to recognize biases in our wording without taking offense people pointing them out and acting like it's an attack on our character. Two, I think this paragraph right here does bring to light why you might have so many issues with TLM2. One of the messages in TLM2 is that "femininity," or rather the concepts usually grouped as "feminine" which are present in the Systar System are not bad things. Sexism is much more complicated than male vs female, and I think can be more accurately summarized as masculine vs feminine. All of the female characters you just listed (at least the ones I'm familiar with) are very masculine characters regardless of their sex. In contrast, many of the characters in TLM2 are more on the feminine side. A character doesn't have to be masculine to have depth. Again, that was one of the messages of TLM2. The term "Mary Sue" is very often attributed to feminine characters even though it's rarely actually the case. I think a major reason for this is that people have trouble understanding that feminine =/= bad. Hence the accusations of every feminine character in recent memory being "poorly written" Though off-topic and I don't want to turn this to a Star Wars discussion at all, but since you brought it up Rey is a great example of this. While she's a naturally gifted character, she has a lot of flaws and goes through a lot of growth over the course of the two movies we've seen. The exact same thing can be said for Anakin and Luke, and yet nobody called them Mary Sues. Rey's character has a lot of depth, honestly probably more depth than either Anakin or Luke at these points in their stories, but said depth is disregarded as not being legitimate because her character is more feminine. I think audiences have more trouble identifying with feminine characters because we're so used to masculine ones being the hero, but that's a whole bigger issue that needs a much more in-depth discussion than is possible here. We've already kind of gotten off the rails into psychology and social issues as it is.
  24. I wouldn't say high chance, all of the models were developed with play features in mind. In fact I think anything shown off at LEGO House is very unlikely to be made into a set directly, otherwise they wouldn't be showing it off. Our best bet is likely the spaceships at the end of the movie. Perfect chance to include a mini Systar Metal Beard, Benny, and the Apocalypseburg figures. I'd actually bet on this version of the helicopter-wagon since it was featured more prominently in the movie, plus the ships from the main cast. They're pretty small, easy to include multiple in a set.
