  1. why not my Lord. a 100 gunner with only 42pounders. imagine that broadside :-D but i see your point. a 42 pounder was foung only on the largest ships. and then in small numbers. as far as i remember the scandinavian navyies had 32 as their biggest gun
  2. Saw a moc on brickshelf where he had cut the sections in half to get wider ships. but thats destroying lego i think. this thing look cool. have a black/gray small hull, will try this out :)
  3. Hi skaforhire. i think you have to upnumber the guns. see the BRB. a big ship but with only 2 guns broadside my hint is to say about the size of SR is a first rate ship. the SR (Soleil Royal)design is not so good, but this thing should have room for a ship this big. in case someone actually get a chance to buildt a ship that big and a 1. rate ship would not fight alone. so a moc builder would need more ships to get a seabattle right. but a 4 and 5th rate could fight alone. so a 3mast ship with about 5 gun broadside would be my choice for 5th rate and to make it easy, each rate up is 5 more guns like 1.rate 25guns 2.rate 20 3. rate 15 4 rate 10 5rate 5 5 guns means that you need more length of the hull. and therefore 3 mast would look better. just my wiew of it
  4. that sound like a lot of fun. or something that goes out of control fast. some of us have a strong feelings for being true to the same style as in the org LEGO sets. while others try to be as realistic as possible. so a SES which is big in the org style is small and have to few guns to match a moc line ship like SR. but lets not look negative on this :-) one thing we can do for a start is to make a lot of maps. if we do that we can have control over the world, then you cant have a island that is "custom buildt" so that no other have any chance of conquer it or something like that. if islands or land was set, then there would be less chance of arguments over that at least. i like playing and making maps, so i could try to produce some for you if you want . can use some of the islands here in my district as a model :-) its over 300 small islands and bigger ones in this county alonne :-D
  5. im not very good at this and not quite sure i understand what Lord Ravensburg mean. do you mean that we use our own moc's in a roleplay style game or? like: i use my frigate and sail to some islands in the horisont that i know nothing about. and on that islands some other of us have buildt their port and forts etc snd so he tell me what i found there? would be fun if i could have "visitors" in my part of the pirate world, that they could use my pirate inn or take refuge under the protection of my black fortress. but not sure if that what Ravensburg mean
  6. True, but if this was all real the Eldorado Fortress would be some back water fort or part of a series of small forts guarding an entrace to a port or river... the SR would be the ship of the line along with atleast five others of her caliber and a whole host of smaller ships, most of which would be bigger then SES... as for SES vrs SR... it would not ever happen for two reasons 1) SR's escorts would never let SES cross the SR's T (the only place that would be safe for the SES to attack on the SR) and 2) because the SES are pirates they would never attempt to attack a SOTL (ship of the line) and if it did happen, the SES would run out of ammo before it even came close to damaging the SR. So then they would board the SR, and well if they even got onto the deck of the ship, the SR would wipe the floor with the SES, because they are trained marines and outnumber the crew of SES by as many as 10:1 and no less then 5:1 i think the MOCer did a good job with what he had. i agree. Eldorado is to small to be a lone fortress and the things you mentioned about the line is quite true. a Line ship doenst sail alone, it have several ships to follow, and akt as guard/ recon/resuply etc. and the SES versus SR is true too. even if SES was a naval ship it would still be higly outnumbered compared to a line ship like SR. even if both ships had full crew and was fit for fight. SR could loose a whole deck of guncrew and still fire as many guns as SES. The only time i can see a SES or BSB size ship(naval or pirate) having a higher chance of sucsess is if SR have been separated from her escort(of frigates and smaller ships) by heavy sea or bad weather. if SES/BSB have a VERY good captain(and very lucky too) and come over SR/lineship without her escort they could have a chance of hitting the rudder, and then perhaps getting close enough to sink her. but boarding SR is just to forget, to many men omboard.
  7. Thanks. ill try that out when i have the time to spend :) only 3 days left befor i go on summer holyday :) 3 weeks with no job to wake up to :)
  8. How do i use a sticker like that? do i need special paper or is it premade minifig sized stickerpaper to buy somewere? a minifig look so small in my hands, im afraid i wont me able to get good results i f i try
  9. There arent any more gunports as i can see. thats why i called it a 20gun frigate. but of course someone could buildt a covered gundeck to get the guns out of influence of weather. it would look more right to me if he had placed some more guns on the topdeck. in that case it would be a two decker with about 26-28 guns. but a great ship neverless
  10. Ops. i thought my ship, the Predator was a fearsome ship but this ship i fear would blow me right out of the sea. its very well designed i think. have to go home and rebuildt my ship i think :-$ Only negative thing(if im correct now) ist that it have a covered Gundeck. and for a frigate in that style i cant get that to be right.a 20gun frigate usually had the guns on a open gundeck(in my memory at least) but again that could be me just wanting to find one bad thing to say. Great ship :) *y* *y* Here is my ship. se how much better his ship look , more heigh above the water but look more natural. Bigger pic here: Predator One of the errors of BSB was imo that its to low in the middle. look more like a 14th century ship than a 17th century ship. i tried to fix that but this ship does it MUCH better. Salute to you :-D
  11. Great film. wish i could do such things :) as now i dont have time to do such but hopefully i can see more from you later :)
  12. SR look a bit strange to me, when i first saw it. very tall and the masts are to small.its out of proportions. but as several pointet out, using the hull from the biggest ship(like BSB or SES) does limit the size you can build before it go out of proportions. but the ship look very nice to me.i like the color and all the small detail's , And to the Q of who would win between SR and SES. well that would depend of the situation. a broadside fromSR would wipe out the smaller SES from the sea , but if SES could use their advantage in speed and shorter turning they could have a chance. But a ship like SR is not intended to fight their own battle, as the headline from Brickself say "102 gun ship of the line" and if SR was used out of the line it would have other ships with it. smaller frigates and cutters . a ship like SES would not have a chance tu use its speed and faster turnings if SR is heading straight for a convoy that SES ship is protecting. in that case SES would have to head straight for SR to prewent SR from crushing the Convoy. you can read about a battle like that in Patrick O'Brian's book "HMS Suprise" .
  13. even better. sorry for my bad english :-$ i'm dreamin of an galleon with 20 cannons in two gundecks. alot of sailors and soldiers and a smaller, but very fast pirate ship.In one set X-D would be expensive but boy i would go to the bank and loan the money if i have to :-D
  14. Thats why mr Phes . i also think he's a cool guy. its like reading Donald Duck. Donald is so unlucky that i feel for him and want he to win :) Have to go away for a day or two now. tomorrow ill start on a 24h job with moving several power transforator's. think ill be tired after that is finished :) Have a nice day everyone..
  15. i wouldn't keep my hopes up too much. my gut feeling tells me we're not getting them; and these lego girls don't know anything... saying they'll produce what is successful is a marketing line they're all using from time to time to assure the customer they really do care about what he/she wants... im aware of that snefroe and its a shame. everyone working for TLC should know alot about lego. its like going to a gasstation and the worker there dont know how to refill cooling fluid on a car. they should have some basic knowlegde of what they work with. But imagine if they didnt say that just to pretent to care. would be nice if the next lego catalog show a pirate attack on a BIG spanish gallion or fortress *sweet* :-D but im afraid you might be right. that lego pirates hase passed away for good. :-(
  16. As i said mr Phes this was my first try, i knew the baseplate was moving but to see if i got it to work i didnt mind. i have a program for editing video on my pc. and there i found that i could tak inn pic by pic. will try to make a better or a longer one when i have the time to do that. and then i will make sure the ground isnt moving and that my cam is more correct placed to ligth and so on. and perhaps next time the captain win ;)
  17. Thanks Sir. i startet playing with the option of using my digital cam for his last night. and i havent made myself so familiar with it yet. so from my amateur point i think it was good. the PB pic was just to have a picture to try out some fading tecnic on :)
  18. Here you can find my first attempt to make a pirate film with my digitalcam. not wery long but here it is :)Piratefilm *sweet*
  19. Hmm. if that miracle happens that pirates came back next year ill better start sacing money now. Because i want all of it. Mine, MIne,MINe,all MINE :-D :-D got a mail from TLC and the girl that answered me sayd that "you never know, favourite/popular themes could be launch with again, with some difference in how they look" (not word by word. byt that was the meaning. got the mail in norwegian and have to translate it, and as you already have seen, my english id BAD :-$ Imagine Phes, if we could borrow the factory for some days, and make our own sets X-D
  20. i wish they started up the lego theme again. and included more spanish sets. would like to get my hands on a Spanish galleon thats larger than BSB :) perhaps 20 wide and twize the length of BSB. with two gun deks , 10cannons and lots of spanish sailors :) that would be something to go after for a pirate :-D :-D as a start they could start making minifigs in from the theme again. that have to be a cheap prosess for them , only color and decal thats different :)
  21. i think its just the right size if you compare with Eldoradofortress and other buildings. i tried to build a gouvernors house for my Port . it was to have a ballroom , office, kitchen. guardroom and bedroom. but it ende up as bigger (and taller)than the fortress itselves. so i demolished it. as Mr Phes say, if you use Lego sets as a "scale" indicator then you cant have the mansion bigger than the fort defending it. i would guess that if this mansion was in the Lego carribean. it would lay some place not so far from Eldorado fortress and imp strading station. every boat that came close would be caught in crossfire between several art positions. and eventually you could get help from one of the sailers too. as you can se in the picture from mr Phes there has been a guard change, one guard i rowing back to the barracks :-D
  22. Do you have any picture of the backside mr Phes? very nice set. look like a display from lego :) how is your manor guarded? by patrol or just by a guard at the cannon? can send you a patrol from my fortress if you need it :-D
  23. Yes and no. when i was a little kid i got some lego sets guarded inn and some Town lego. but that all meltet into one mass of lego in all colors and shapes. about 10years i buildt a warship with guns and torpedoes. 1x10 as gun barrels and pencils as torpedoes. that ship was something i never destroyed. always have one ship. but i had also an 50x50? baseplate. on that i buildt a small fortress. and manned it with whatever i had of minifigs. and depending of what i played it was either a Pirates nest or a amry fort or anything. that fort have since grown to the fortress im building on now. in 95 i bought the Imperial armada flagship, that was the start of the pirate era. after that i consentratet on the fort and the ship that i used mainly as a pirate ship. This Pirate MOC's is the first true mocs i've buildt. the early ones was when i used lego to play with.
  24. Nothing one of those ladders wouldn't fix - that's if Mr Tordenskjold has one to spare of course! I havent any ladders yet. but will get one to the upstairs as soon as i get one. i had the guarded inn when i was younger, this is made with that set in mind. Also added the boatbuilder.
  25. I went home today. and did take some pictures at the building you asked for.. You find ut on brickshelf MAdsen This is the pirate inn. lokal pub or something like that. newest version of the moc
