  1. First, find out what the event organisers are looking for if you are building with a specific event in mind. Each event is different with minimum standards, space and expectations. My advice is build something you feel passionate about or really enjoy, make sure theres something in there that tells a story, is instantly recognisable or connects with an emotion with the audience. Then add extra things to catch the attention of people a second time. I do a dinosaur theme, but you'll also now find hidden across two tables of display, lots of surprise cameos like doctor who, for example. As for things going missing or getting touched/moved, it happens. We had one show where the cleaners at the venue played with all the displays overnight, causing chaos in the morning when everyone had to fix it all up. We now use light plastic drop sheets to discourage out of hours touching.
  2. Love all the lighting :) is it pre fabricated sets or are you clever with wiring? Also have you looked at joining an Adult Fan of Lego User Group yet? There's a great one in qld called the Queensland Lego User Group. There's been talk of doing a regional show in Rocky and getting more local members from there is a great way to get it all happening :) look us up, we'd love to have you if you aren't already a member. We have some avid train and city fans <3
  3. Hey I'm impressed that it made it o Bundaberg without doing this, yet you take a shorter trip and this happened. Did you not check the boxes inbetween shows ;) I'd be interested in seeing how people have constructed wooden crates for the purpose of show transport. I'm also doing this many shows a year and the amount of hours for setup is ridiculous now so I need to make boxes so the most of the table display goes in one and I can build up my terrain better. Has anyone got examples of how they designed their crates?
  4. Just got my Myer One email. Myer is having a one day sale tomorrow saturday 12th October that includes 60% off a second toy in the toy department. Discount as always comes off the cheapest of the two.
  5. Definitely not just for kids. Just the amount of money you have to spend to start the most basic MOC display should be an indicator that LEGO isn't just for kids. The amount of creativity and precision design I've seen in the AFOL community is light years ahead of what my ten year old creates when he mucks about playing with his LEGO. We don't just play. We create, design and build innovatively too!
  6. As much as I love the concept of the Friends sets (and all the cool pieces) it will be nice to see what else is coming.
  7. I think this looks great. The asymmetry works really well and the vines are really cool. I'd add a bird, maybe an owl but that's just me.
  8. I quite like the monkey/toucan set it has really nice detail.
  9. Looks great I'm starting to learn MOC techniques to make my displays more interesting. Medieval Moc builders offer fabulous inspiration for landscaping.
  10. I know I've been disappointed a few times from bricklink sellers passing off pieces that have been tooth gouged. Some so bad that I would even give them to my son, let alone use myself. I just think to myself, for freak sake get a tool dammit!
  11. I'm having a good giggle at all the suggestions in here. I'm a AFOL and a wife I had to drag my husband into it, but it's still "honey that's more your thing, whatever you think is best". The Series Minifigs sucked me in, Friends intrigued me and then I was like OMG there are so many cool things!!!!! Your wife will either understand and join you, or let it be your thing.
  12. Loving all the little details
  13. If they are indeed making a set with the Simpsons house, I'd buy it and Bart's treehouse would be cool too.
  14. You could probably get her video pulled off youtube for IP infringements if you report it to youtube with the evidence you have here.
  15. Hi! I am a complete newbie to loving LEGO and was dragged into it against my will. LEGO was always my little brother's thing. I didn't really play with it much as a kid. When my son was born we bought him a set of LEGO Quattro and so his love of LEGO began but I still did not get into it much. I would get frustrated trying to follow the instructions and get things back-to-front. I got interested in the minifigure series LEGO, because they were neat and easier to assemble Then I got completely sucked in by LEGO releasing the Friends theme. Fast-forward a few years and I'm now getting creative and tackling my first real MOCs to display. I've even suckered Hubby back into building with LEGO. So now I'm trawling the great internets to learn all I can about building techniques so I can go bigger and better with our display. One day I hope to build something as epic as what I have seen at LEGO shows but for now it's all trees and landscaping for my sons dinosaurs display.
