Back in May 2014 I came across a website of an excellent LEGO designer named Tomáš Vít (http://buildinst.sweb.cz/newsen.html) who designs models using just the parts from a single set, these are known as "C models". At the time I was looking for some ideas for a C model of set 42006, he had designed a bulldozer which I built and was very impressed with. Recently with a change in focus of my LEGO Technic collection I have done a trade deal with a friend of mine to swap some sets, as part of this deal I ended up with set 9393 (tractor). I have previously owned this set and have built both the A and B models a number of times. I did some research online and found that he had published some instructions to build a helicopter out of this set, base don my new focus this fits in with it well. Link to instructions: http://buildinst.sweb.cz/9393en.html I spent an hour yesterday afternoon building this, it was a fairly easy process and I am very impressed with the end result. The gear on the side turns the main and tail rotors, the gear at the rear controls the landing gear. http://paulstechnic.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/mini-building-review-9393-c-model.html

Yesterday I got set 42025 off a friend who had built it, I have never owned this set before so I am not sure what is "normal" for it. I have noticed a couple of things that appear to be different to the photos I have seen online. I have posted a couple of photos of what I have seen online and how I think it should look. I did take photos of mine but I left my memory card at home :( - The rear cargo ramp does not touch the ground when it is lowered. Below is what I think it should look like, mine is at least a stud high off the ground at the far end. - The rear landing gear wheels don't go as far up as what the photos show. Below is what I think it should look like, with mine the mini LAs are not sitting in the gap but above it, I have checked and they have enough space to go down but something is stopping them, I suspect in the gear train. Has anybody else had these issues? As I didn't build it myself I am not sure where to start looking to fix it.

As my LEGO Technic collection has grown, I was to the point where I needed more storage space for it. I also wanted something which was enclosed to keep cats and little fingers out of it. I had been thinking about a two door pantry cupboard and adding a lock to the front of it. After our display yesterday I had all of my models packed up in crates so it was the best time to do this. I did some research online and while looking for suitable cupboards this model which Bunnings sells came up, I went for a drive and after seeing it in the store I purchased it. http://www.bunnings.com.au/kis-plus-650-x-450-x-1750mm-4-door-high-garage-cabinet_p2583013 It comes as a flat pack in a box with a 15 minute build time, I took a little longer then this as I stuffed up one step and had to fix it :( Photos: http://paulstechnic.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/new-storage-cupboard-kis-plus-4-door.html

Does Lego get less tight over time?

Lego is now the World's biggest toy maker.

This is great news :) -
I was just about to start a topic like this. Now, almost two years on, do we feel that things have improved, gotten worse or stayed the same as far as the "golden age" of LEGO Technic? Overall have we reached the limit of what sets can be and the real improvements will come from MOC's and those who can push the hobby in a new direction?

A general question: when you have built a MOC, in the future do you ever go back and change / improve it based on new parts you have or different ideas you have found since building it the first time? Back in May I built a road roller attachment for my Unimog, last night I was getting all my attachments out for a photo, when I looked at this I saw that I had some different parts now which looked better and made it work better. Is this something that other people do? or once something is built do you keep it as is. I am now going to go back over all my attachments and see where I can improve them.

I am just about to start the design process for me latest Unimog attachment which will be a field plow, like the one below. Has anybody built something like this for the Unimog before?

Are you a collector, MODer, or MOCer?
Paul B Technic replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for all the replies, it is good to see that we have a wide range of people who approach it from different angles. -
I display for a few reasons: - To share what I do with other people, both inside and outside the LEGO hobby. - To see the enjoyment on other peoples faces - To share my enjoyment for the hobby and to encourage other adults to take it up. - To give me something to blog about ;)

Recently I have been interviewed for a magazine article, while talking to the reporter about the LEGO hobby we started to talk about the different areas of the hobby and how I approached it. I said I was more of a MODer / MOCer and less of a collector. Over the weekend while doing some work on my latest Unimog attachment I started to do some stats on if my perception was correct. For the below I class each as this: SET: Built as per the official building guide with no or very little changes. MOD: Built as per the official building guide with significant changes, new features or improvements. MOC: Built without any building guide, all custom made. Here are some stats: Not including "Unimog Attachments": SET = 25% MOD = 25% MOC = 50% Including "Unimog Attachments": SET = 11% MOD = 11% MOC = 78% So over 75% of what I have built is either a MOD or MOC, I think I was right to say I am not a collector but more a MODer / MOCer. What are your numbers like? Are you more of a collector or MODer / MOCer?
