Thanks for the reply! Do you mean speckled as in, the back has some lighter/darker spots? Does paint fix that up? And really, take your time, mine was just a suggestion.

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
Shakar replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well, I finally got K2-SO yesterday, and I'm pretty impressed, not just for the parts. Building was a lot of fun and there are a lot of techniques and builds I'm going to reuse. The model is even taller than I thought (though it's mostly thanks to the legs) and actually looks rather menacing and creepy . And the parts, oooooh. Two 3M axles with stoppers, 4 ++O axles, 2 black barrel pieces, 2 dark bley extra long bones (previously exclusive to Grievous, I believe), 4 black lightsaber hilts. And the piston shell in black, which is GORGEOUS. I love the new panel shell (HF add-ons from the Breakout era are compatible with it!). And the head is more versatile than I thought- I wonder if I could use it on a BIONICLE MOC... Am I going to get another one of these guys? You bet. This set is a goldmine. -

Not too many exciting pieces, but I really didn't have very high excpetations from those two anyway, still: -shoulder pad in red -small Technic panel in red (not sure if that's new, though, I have a hard time remembering all those panels) -half circle Technic panel in red (again, not sure) -barrel piece in red -6M shell in dark tan -3M shell in dark tan -large panel shell in dark tan -Star Wars torso shell in dark tan without printing (previously exculsive in Finn with printing) -new (???) bow pieces in gold- what are those? Never saw them before. Are they new? -new waist cape for Donn- ahem, Chirrut. I think I wrote down everything, but feel free to add to the list. -
Thanks! I keep forgetting Glatorian heads work on G2 Masks. Quite the clever trick there. I have to try it sometime. Yeah, I'm doing the same. I was thinking of getting it for Christmas, so I have one more reason to wait now.

How did you pull that trans orange head trick? Did you cut a Glatorian head? @Antak Thanks, looks like ____ Strong and Flexible is the best and most cost effective solution if you want a mask to paint.

@Sykes Is that Black Hi-Def Acrylate? If so, I suggest you post it here too: Since a number of people (myself included) have been wondering how the new material looks. Going by visual appearance alone, I would say it looks pretty great. Really reminds me of the matte feel of the original Kraahkan.

Bummer. I wasn't interested in him that much to begin with, but I could've bought him as a parts pack had I found him on clearance. And his chest decal is pretty cool.

I saw the 4 15 Euro sets on a few shops, but I've yet to see Umarak anywhere. He's not even on Amazon, unlike the other 4. Was he imported at all here?

I wonder if anyone has tried to buy Black Hi-Def Acrylate Titan Scale? I really want to see how it looks, that train on the presentation article looked fantastic. It's a bit pricy, but if you're aiming for a pure black MoUP (like I do, I guess) it could be the best choice. Wow, that gold is impressive! Really looks like an official Lego part this way. Which material is that?

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
Shakar replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
What confuses me is that a previous report talked about the three figures being a Sand Trooper and two from Jyn's group (Blind Guy with Staffâ„¢ and Guy with Red Armour and Gunâ„¢). If those 3 and Boba belong to the same wave, it seems weird they'd make a wave of 4 sets since they seem to follow a 6 sets plan (usually 3 heroes and 3 bad guys). -

I was hoping that the arm mechanism would be something new, but it appears it's just a copy of Skull Basher's build, sans the awful red button. Still, K-250's build looks really fun and pretty inspiring. But it's also a goldmine of parts. So many good recolours, and then there's a gearbox cover! Also, the new panel shells aren't completely smooth like I thought, but have two holes like the average CCBS shell. Good! -
Nice that he added Black Hi-Def Acrylate, too bad it's available for the Titan Scale version only. Honestly I was kind of more interested in Village Scale (and not just for budget reasons). Still, I shall wait to see someone review the new material, while hoping BHDA somehow becomes available for Village Scale.

I'll try: BIONICLE G1 Best: Miru 01, Kakama 01, Akaku 01, Noble Matatu, Avokhii 03, ME Kraahkan, Kualsi, Faxon, Arthron. Worst: Kakama Nuva 02, Pakari Nuva 02, Great Matatu, Great Komau, Kaukau Nuva 08, Hau Nuva 08. HERO FACTORY Best: Breez's helmet (both 2010 and 2013 versions), Surge's helmet (both 2010 and 2013 versions), Core Hunter's helmet. Worst: Bruizer's face plate is the only one I really really dislike, all the others were ok. BIONICLE G2 Best: Mask of Jungle 2015, Mask of Ice 2015, Mask of Creation, Skull Mask, Mask of Ultimate Power Worst: the Corrupted Mask of Control is the only one I actually dislike.

Well, speaking of materials, this seems interesting: https://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/24432-introducing-our-newest-material-black-high-definition-acrylate.html Seems like it'd work well for the MOUP and Bionicle masks in general.

Really, I'm pretty sure the only semblance of 2017 they ever came up with was the design of the Mask of Ultimate Power, and even that might have been (at least) partially finished back in 2015. Overlord Makuta's printed shield and purple loincloth? Those could've easily been made a few months ago, specifically for the model and the contest video. Then there's that really odd printed Super chest that Mask Maker Makuta had in JTO that we've never seen in plastic form. Not sure what to make of it since the MM Makuta on the designers' desk used a piston shell on his torso like MM Ekimu. Overall, I don't think there's been any 2017 set plan that went beyond a few doodles and concepts. They couldn't even settle on a consistent colour scheme for Makuta.
-
I wanted to save up and get a metal version, but I think it's better that I buy a plastic one first. It's that rough surface most of the options have that bugs me: I'd like the Mask to be as smooth as possible. Black Strong & Flexible seems like a decent choice for a paint job (at least, a smooth finish), but since I'm not used to do this type of stuff I fear I would just ruin it all. Is Black Acrylic worth the extra price (it's over 2 times and half the price of BS&F!)? I'm talking about the Titan Scale in all cases.

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
Shakar replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I like that the Italian description of the sets translates Star Wars into Guerre Stellari (which is something distributors, marketers and the like haven't done in decades) but keep stuff that should be translated like Sergeant in English. But on the good side, there's K-2SO's torso which looks very well designed. If it manages to look as good in person as it does in the pictures while leaving room for a smooth battle function, I'm going to give mad props to the designer. I'm actually thinking of buying the set for the parts and incorporate the torso in a MOC. -

Whoa are these really due for September 30th? I legit thought they got a January 2017 release like the TFA figures. Really curious about the 2017 sets now. Anyway, as I said before, I find Jyn and Death Trooper to be overpriced, but man I really want K-2SO. Cool looking figure, cool build that incorporates a potentially cool function, a new shell, that delicious piston shell in black AND 4 lightsaber handles in black? 100% gonna buy, though not at 27 Euro. -
Nope, that's why all 2016 Toa have light blue eyes. The only other colour is Umarak the Hunter's trans reddish orange, exclusive to him.I still think the shorter eyestalk wasn't completely necessary, personally. The Creature head can mount over the Toa's head even if you use the longer eyestalk. It arguably works better too, because it stays in its place instead of wobbling around, it just limits head articulation (which is still limited with the shorter eyestalk to begin with).

As much as I want this to be real, there are two things I'm not sure what to think of: 1)How much time have they had to plan these sets? Before this list, the consesus was that the abrupt cancellation of Bionicle left an empty slot for constraction, so the only constraction sets they had ready to sell in 2017 were the SW Ultrabuilds. Was the original plan to run these along Bionicle and SW? I don't recall ever being more than two constraction themes in the same year and in the same wave (Winter/Summer. Or was it decided to produce these once the cancellation of Bionicle was confirmed ? 2)While it would be logical to assume a Bionicle designer would use terms like "shell" to refer to full constraction figures, it is important to remember that the System Nexo Knights sets use a number of parts mainly used in constraction. There might be a possibility he's talking about parts that need to be integrated with System.

Wait, where's Clay? Curious they'd bring whole team but not him. Anwyay, I'm very excited. If done well these could bring lots of cool parts and builds. I wonder if we're going to get the villains and possibly the King.

http://socialcompare...s/compare-sizes Just insert the width and height you wish and the site will generate your desired object (lots of shapes to choose from). You can create a lot of objects and compare them. So you can get a rough idea of how big the two MoUP are: Titan MoUP: 5.518 cm x 3.362 cm Villager MoUP: 4.502 cm x 2.792 cm 2001 Kakama: 3.42 cm x 1.818 cm

Well I didn't think I'd ever see this day (due to the sheer complexity of the project) but over TTV they're trying to rebuild Overlord Makuta! The progress is pretty good so far, turns out the model is not that crazy-complicated-never-gonna-rebuild-it-ever, after all. John Ho, who built him, shared some new angles too. http://board.ttvchan...uta-topic/27422 And turns out the black stickered panels on his limbs do exist, they're from a Marvel Civil War set. So unless I'm missing something, taking those panels and the Shapeways MoUPs into account, the purple cloth parts and the MoUP sigil shield (and the printed chest if you really want to count that one) are the only parts missing. EDIT: forgot the trans orange skull. *sigh* I really, really like want to build this guy some day. He's like the definitive Bionicle villain to me, in terms of design, though he's not 100% perfect. Even if we aren't getting more Bionicle sets anytime soon, I find the fact we're managing to get all this stuff thanks to fans' enthusiasm inspiring, to say the very least.

I guess this is obvious to most, but still: keep in mind that those prices are Amazon's, and way higher than the official prices. Always happens when they're up earlier than the supposed release date. So the sets are going to hit the official prices (25 Euro?) once they're out. Anyway, these pics don't reveal much more compared to the leaked pics, but it's cool to see clearer shots of the sets. K-2SO really is the only one I might get, since it's the only one with a potentially interesting build. But the other 2 do have some interesting parts, like the dark tan hands, and whatever piece(s?) Death Trooper wears on the neck (does that ammo belt allow for stud connections?). But the new panel shell and the piston add-on in black are by far what I'm interested in the most. -
I can't see Mixels joints expanding into a standalone line with larger figures. When I see Mixels joints I think that they are great to build fully articulated System figures (see the Legend Beasts from Chima). But as good as that system can be (*), there's still a fragility to it that makes it less viable for action figures than CCBS and Technic are. Exo Force mechas had pieces falling off all the time, same for the Mixel sets. The figures that can be built that way are great for playsets and light roleplaying, but action figures need to be really sturdy, like "Let's smash Umarak and Ekimu against each other and see how it goes" sturdy. I'd never build a ship or a plane with CCBS because it's not meant for those things, likewise I'd never build a large action figure meant for really heavy play with System, because it's not good for those things. That's how I'd think strictly as a toymaker anyway. My favourite Lego theme is BIONICLE and I feel the CCBS/Technic synergy G2 employed during its tragically short run was the best for it, so I do have a personal preference for it. But I also really like CCBS on its own and I want to see what it can do, even, yeah, beyond Bionicle (and HF) itself. My top choices for a new in-house theme, strictly in terms of preference? Either a Slizer reboot, Nexo Knights Ultrabuilds (if NK is still around in 2018, which I hope. I do like NK) or something entirely new. * is Mixels really a system on its own BTW? Seems like those sets are mostly still System, bricks and all When Bionicle G2 debuted in 2015 CCBS (which is fully compatible with Technic, System and the G1 Bionicle pieces) was around for 4 full years, 4 years worth of sets that brought parts in many shapes and colours. Lego might have not marketed CCBS well enough, but it's not really their fault those people who found themselves with not enough parts didn't buy any of the 80+ CCBS-based sets that came out during that time. It was a long estabilished system and using System, old (discountinued) Bionicle parts or a new system altogether would've made no sense. And I can't find it now, but I remember a post from Aanchir from a few days ago where he quoted a Lego designer he talked with, who more or less said that Lego plans on using and developing CCBS further in the years to come. So there you have it, kinda. I'm pretty sure CCBS is going to remain as Lego's go-to system for action figures. I wouldn't be opposed if Mixels joints were used to compliment CCBS for small things like fingers, horns, wings and the like, though.
