  1. I would prefer a brickbuilt grave myself. With some Technic and CCBS pieces built in. Though seriously, I don't know why I replied after all this time. Just felt like writing something I guess. Sometimes I write a post, realize it's not relevant and delete it lol.
  2. I don't think any of these guys are using gearboxes. Compare the Superheroes (and most Chima Uktrabilds) to the HF sets and you'll see they focused less on function and more on the characters they tried (with.. ahem, debatable accuracy) to represent. I think we're going to see the same general idea with the SW figures compared to the BIONICLE sets. The gearbox would've worked perfectly combined with the lightsabers, yet neither or Luke or Vader feature it. So I think the core concept behind these is going be the exact opposite of LoSS and Scorpio: pure action figures that sacrifice any sort of function in the name of aesthetics. Again, whether they've been successful with Luke or not is debatable, but from what I've read here and in other forums it seems most agree that this philosophy paid off for Darth Vader.
  3. Got Lewa the other week, and I love him (surprise surprise), even without the mods I gave him, which were more a case of "Why not?" than "There's this glaring flaw I need to fix" (I'd file the 2.0 torso and the silver feet and hands under that, but it seems most people are fine with those..). PROS: Overall, the figure looks like an updated yet very faithful representation of the character's 2001 incarnation. The figure's lanky yet muscular build, the long monkey-like arms and the unique shoulder armour design are brilliant, and so is the mask. As I said before, for all the flak the "Mask of Jungle" gets, I think it looks fantastic and is a proper recreation of the 2001 Miru, which happens to be my favourite G1 masks to this day. I didn't have any problem with his tall shoulders, I actually wanted to keep them but he ended up looking TOO bulky when combined with the mods I gave to the arms (in order for them to look less bland), so I lowered the gearbox by one module like many are doing to their Lewa sets. CONS: Yeah, the arms are the worst part of the set for me: the orientation of the lower arms shells (despite it being needed for Lewa's Adrenaline mode, more on this later) looks awkward and they don't have any additional covering (Gali's have this problem too, but I guess their shorter length and the transparent bones make it less bothersome). Also, the "Kaiju fin" (that name is pretty popular so might as well use it myself) on Lewa's back actually moves around- it's not a HUGE problem since it's your average high friction black pin, but I saw no one mentioning it and I was surprised when I found that out while building him. OTHER STUFF I...like the yellow shells, but they still feel odd, especially since Lewa is the only one without any transparent elements (aside from his eyes, obviously). So I went with tr. bright green shells like others suggested, and that's the only colour scheme modification I'm willing to carry out on this year's sets (that, and Vardy's dark tan shells on Pohatu, they seriously work wonders on him). I tried keeping the yellow shells while adding Pohatu's tr. neon green bones, but it was just too bright. I wonder how Skull Slicer's (gorgeous) tr. bright green bones would look on him? I guess I'll have to wait a few months to find that out. Finally, I think the Adrenaline Mode is pretty good, but I agree it's not worth the awkward arm build (and awkward sword handles that don't even match the axe heads in colour) the set ended up getting. I might BL a pair of titanium metallic Ninjago/Speeda Demon giant katanas and try to do something a bit different, but we're going into MOC territory now. Gonna have to agree on this. His arms are free to swing without any obstacles (like Tahu's/Gali's shoulder armour or Tahu's blade wings). I did however add a third set of small gears for higher friction, like Ekimu's hammer arm.
  4. They came after Toyfair NY. I know because the poster said Master Ekimu has elongated leg armour with a small curving at the top, one asked them if it's the same shell Vader and Luke wear and they said yes. Also, the guy said there's a tan and trans purple villain with a cape. Again, I wasn't sure whether posting these or not given 4chan's... reputation over here. Were this info to be true, I can't say I'm excited about the small villains, Ekimu turning bigger is certainly the oddest one. Maybe him and Makuta can change size for battle? It was never stated they belong to the Protectors' species afterall, and there's a fair number of reasons to assume they indeed don't (unique incredibly powerful masks of unknown origins, unique armour style, unique colour schemes..). Those villains do indeed sound very cool though. I mean, tan and tr. purple?! Still, there a big reason I don't believe these rumours: it'd be VERY odd on Lego's part to release two villain waves in a row. They did it a few times during G1, I just don't see doing it again. One year and half without any new hero set besides two Ekimu? Really?
  5. Pretty sure he means 4chan. The Bionicle threads there aren't thaat baad.. Actually, I did read these rumours a few weeks ago, but I wasn't sure whether to post them or not.
  6. That's what I like about these sets. They might not be 100% accurate to the 01 versions (but really, it'd be boring if they didn't bring anything new to the table), but they manage to convey the spirit of the sets and the characters very well.
  7. I'd like to have Rahi, but if Lego's way of doing them for the future is anything like LoSS and Scorpio then I'd rather get more humanoids. I want poseable, good looking figures with the occasional fun function built in, not a blocky, static, awkward looking toy that sacrifices everything for a decent function.
  8. I'm going to say the socket extender with friction. Nothing is better to add length and stability. It brought CCBS to a new level for me.
  9. My problem is, every time I see them I think they're too set-like to not be based on sets. The Chima-like shoulder armour, the general appereance of a CCBS humanoid down to the cladding, how it uses the same blade pieces on both hands like a set would... In short, it's the same concept I discussed in regards to Ekimu, months before he was confirmed to get a set form. The fact there are statues of them hints the Okotans might worship them, as deities or sacred guardians, which would be a cool plot point. I don't think they're the Skull people: the armour and weapon style is completely different and they have a insect/arachnid motif the Skulls (Scorpio aside of course) lack. It'd be so disappointing if they ended up not representing anything, mostly because I think their design looks really sweet (dare I say on par with the Toa, in fact). So that is how it is, neat! I'm really loving all the fine engineering these sets sport. Back when news of the sets' existence surfaced I jokingly said I'd turn Darth Vader into Makuta. I certainly did not expect we'd get such a big and impressive figure of Vader, so I actually want to do it now! Not G2 Makuta, more like something close to 2001 G1 Makuta- all black and with an infected Hau, though I'll have to do some painting work for that. I really want to see how they did Grievous. He might turn out to be a bit too big for what I want to do so I'll probably use Slicer's design instead, but a large, well designed, four armed figure should teach me a few MOCing tricks.
  10. Does anyone know why Skull Slicer's gearbox is built the way it is? it should be symmetrical, there's no reason for it to not be that way, yet one side uses a completely different different type of gears. Is it a friction issue or is just to give Slicer a more "random", cobbled together look? Also, it occured to me that we still have no idea at all whom or what the statues on "Po-Okoto" represent. They look nothing like any Summer set. They don't have the Skull Folks' bony motif either. 2016 baddies? MNOG did heavily hint at the Bohrok (if not outright showed them IIRC)... Oooh how I wish you were right.
  11. I actually didn't notice the flying creatures until you guys pointed them out. Maybe they're just bats put there for extra spokyness?
  12. Ever since the Nuremberg TF pictures surfaced I've been thinking about a store exclusive that can give us the two missing gold/trans masks. I've sceptically left it at that though, since we've never had a constraction store exclusive after 2010 and two exclusive recoloured masks in a single set seemed odd. But since we're getting the unexpected "book mask", a sixth Skull villain with Gali's mask doesn't seem THAT unlikely. I like the idea of a sea monster, the last sea based villain we got was Aquagon and he was terrible. As for the colours, tr dark blue? EDIT: grah, I accidentally hit "Post"..
  13. Really hope that the books mask is the "Kaukau" in gold and trans (light blue like Gali's bones? Blue to match PoW's mask?) or just in a trans shade. A red spider would be cool but it'd be just an additional breed for collection. Whereas Gali's mask would actually fill an empty slot that would otherwise be left there as a very annoying shortcoming.
  14. Then it's gotta be Lewa. But I like to think that Kopaka secretly does too.
  15. I guess I agree..to an extent. The gold used to bug me on Kopaka and Onua, but I've since managed to come up with a headcanon reason for it. Nowadays I just see as another metallic colour, like silver and gunmetal. As for the Brain Attack torso, I agree completely. In fact, I wish they recoloured that one and stopped using the 2.0 shell on torsos, as it clashes horribly with G2's highly detailed style. Even better, I wish they used the BA torso and the Breakout torso (which already existed in Tahu's and Lewa's colours!) together for better variety. But since it seems they decided to not use that one anymore I guess that's not an option. I'm looking forward to see how the Skulls' new torso shell looks in person, since it seemingly looks generic enough to be used on characters that aren't necessarily undead and/or evil. Oh wow, works really well! Nice job!
  16. Opened this the other day, the mask looks absolutely fantastic, even better than I thought. And I totally used those glittery stickers.
  17. Short video on DV by FBTB, he looks huge (and still great)! Also, they have lots of pics of him and Luke at the bottom.
  18. Aaaand Fire and Ice are on top, unsuprisingly. Surprised that Jungle is third though (voted for it because I'm a Miru fanboy).
  19. Yeah, must be that one. The shape fits and it has all the right holes for Grinder's gearbox to work correctly. Really sorry I didn't thank you earlier, I honestly forgot I wrote that post. : S In other news, I got my Hero Pack and my, the trans orange Hau is even prettier than I thought! Now to think of a use for it..
  20. That's pretty... terrifying. Reminds me of those Tortured Souls figures in concept (don't look them up if you're weak of stomach!). I'm sure that wasn't what they were going for, but it's a cool idea nonetheless. Yeah, I'll most likely buy them all. They've been growing on me and the new parts are just sooooo cool. Still on the fence about Scorpio, I hate the set itself but there are some very good pieces.
  21. Can someone post a link (Bricklink, Brickset or anything similar) to the large wheel-like pieces Grinder uses for his shoulders? I think someone posted it a while ago but I can't find it. Thanks in advance!
  22. It's not quite clear actually, yes the first source talked about Boba but the second one lists Jango: Very good observation about the recolours anyway. Not sure which one I'd prefer honestly. Going by his most recent minifig, Boba would bring in more olive green (but I secretly hope he's sand green like his older version, so I can make an accurate Artakha), while Jango would most likely be sand blue, which is another colour I like very much. I hope they don't recycle Gali's dark azure shells, now that would be pretty lazy.
  23. The sets are 8 years apart one from the other, and one of them is a licensed set. The comparison just can't work. EDIT: In case some have yet to realize how stupidly overpriced SW sets are for us Yuropoors, I took a look at S@H and the results are quite depressing. Just three examples: a $20 set, a $40 one, and a $50 set went for, in the Italian S@H, respectively: 28 Euro, 50 Euro and, worst of them all, 65 Euro!
  24. The variety among the prices is quite surprising. Grievous has to be the biggest one, the $25 set is.. Jango, perhaps? The set has roughly the same piece count as Luke and the other two smaller sets, there must be some large parts that shoot the price up (weapons? A jetpack?). Vader has no back armour.. Eh, I guess we should've seen it coming. At least we can get some hints of this torso build, which seems to be very well designed. As I said before, I just hope the European prices aren't too high.
  25. Yeah.. it really annoys me. I guess that the green eyes are a bit more visible since that colour is one of those fluorescent (I think that's the correct term?) ones, while tr. light blue is not (tr. medium blue, 01 Kopaka's eye colour, is). But, still, the eye holes just aren't big enough, which is a pity since 1. I adore every single one of the new masks and 2. The eyeglow was really really visible in the -gasp- HF sets. Aside from the Kaukau (and believe the Pakari, but I don't own Onua yet), the masks have tiny eyeholes.
