  1. Looking at the Competition Rules that rm8 reposted above, "The frame and mechanics of the 4X4 Crawler, model no 9398, will support your design." I too did not consider the entries without the 9398's chassis to be "compliant". Tracked entries don't comply either, because Lego Technic Treads are not part of the 9398 chassis. The outline of the existing tires shows no tracks/treads:
  2. No, but I remember this TechnicBRICKS article about Christmas 2009, which had these Lego Technic "gift boxes": TechnicBRICKS also had a Seasons Greetings 2011 article with this:
  3. VMLN8R's Carver is a lightweight, fast creation that leans into the turns:
  4. @ Legomuppet9: You can find the individual Building Instruction steps for Mahjqa's Monster Chassis (featured in his video above) on his Flickr photoset. Some pictures of his Ice Nine creation is in this Flickr photoset.
  5. @ Hopey: No, I suppose we don't but all of those variants were allowed by the Lego Technic Designers to remain in the Gallery. Future clumps of 20 entries will be posted in a different topic (so that one's poll votes don't have to be deleted to add votes to the newer entries). Let's wait a few days for the dust to settle on these 40 (which are plenty to digest at one time)....
  6. (Sigh) Very well, LandRoverTechnic's entry is NON-COMPLIANT. I changed the posts above accordingly. It is better for the AFOL community to weed-out the good-looking (but non-compliant) entries that happened to get a lot of OFFICIAL votes BEFORE the Final Top 10 selections are made by The Lego Group. If there's a plagiarized (or non-compliant) entry in the Finals, the entire competition will lose credibility real fast....
  7. Folks, as you can tell, it is REALLY HARD to determine what is "compliant' to the rules and what is not. OK, I've removed the note about LandRoverTechnic's Land Rover not being compliant -- I see that it is (except the colors were changed). I added a note to laurents-wuyts' entry that it was not made on the 9398's chassis. As noted at the beginning of the competition, if The Lego Group would REMOVE the non-compliant entries (basically 80% of the ones posted on the Gallery), it would be SO MUCH EASIER to find the "diamonds in the rough" so that they can garner the official votes that they deserve. This topic is meant to assist Grohl (or other Lego Technic Designers) to weed-out the bad entries and come up with a decent "Top Ten" Finalist list in early January 2013. Although I voted in this poll and made my official votes in the Gallery, I don't have any "axe to grind" in this competition since I did not submit anything (and won't).
  8. Noted -- don't vote for LandRoverTechnic's Land Rover -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=94 since it DOES NOT COMPLY WITH CONPETITION RULES SINCE IT WAS NOT BUILT ON 9398 CHASSIS:
  9. fatfatfred posted this well-produced of a "A Lego trike with Power Functions. Lights, 2 motors, radio-controlled. No steering at the front wheel; it steers by controlling the rear wheels seperately. It hardly works; the weight is at the back so it takes off with a wheelie. And the infrared signal is blocked by the roof so it reacts very slow sometimes. But who cares, it looks cool!"
  10. OK, so don't vote for that one -- DOES NOT COMPLY WITH COMPETITION RULES SINCE IT WAS NOT BUILT ON 9398 CHASSIS: Maxou9780's red offroader -- http://technic.us.le...ldest&index=210 :
  11. @ jorgeopesi: Could you be more specific? Which one (by name) of the 40 entries above has a "problem"?
  12. Oops -- I just fixed it so that you can vote for more than one in the second batch of 20. As more clumps of 20 compliant entries get added later, you can always modify your votes.
  13. GijsBekkers: Welcome to Eurobricks! Sariel has made well over 100 MOCs, but he doesn't keep them assembled for long before he uses the parts for another MOC! Here is his picture from June 12, 2011 -- be sure to visit his website to see more since then!
  14. Which of these entries (for the 2012 Lego Technic Competition) would you buy, assuming that the price is the same as the basic 9398 4x4 Crawler set? Click on the URL above each image to link to each entry's Gallery, and to check on the number of "Votes" it has. The Competition Gallery has HUNDREDS of entries; the entries pictured below SEEM TO adhere to the Competition Rules. The Top 10 vote-getters will be considered by The Lego Group for the Finals starting on January 1, 2013. 20,000 limited-edition sets of the winning entry will be sold by The Lego Group. Your poll answers are private; you can pick one or more choices. You can add your public opinions as "Replies" to this topic if you'd like. I will be adding additional (compliant) entries to this topic until midnight on New Year's Eve (December 31, 2012). You can adjust your poll selections as required. Again, in this poll you can indicate more than one entry that you would consider buying. Be sure to add your official "Votes" to each entry below that you "Like"! The entries appear in "oldest-to-newest" order; the creation titles are not necessarily what the creators named them. Let's start off with the first 40 compliant entries; more will be added over the next few days. Due to the limits of the poll (20 choices per question), you must select at least one choice in each batch of 20 entries for your poll to count. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * FIRST 20: Alasdair1990's mobile crane -- http://technic.us.le...=oldest&index=5 : laurens-wuyts' yellow Jeep -- http://technic.us.le...=oldest&index=6 -- DOES NOT COMPLY WITH COMPETITION RULES SINCE IT WAS NOT BUILT ON 9398 CHASSIS: psksvpAndRisa's offroader -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=10 : Peconta's winged offroader -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=39 : KingAlexander5th's convertible -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=45 : MarkusOSX's skull offroader -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=53 : freggel2012's red fire truck -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=61 : armin1980's red pickup -- http://technic.us.le...oldest&index=65 --- PLAGIARIZED ENTRY! 15. You could also consider building Sicil's Rally Car "Blacked" (which uses two Power Functions M-motors):
  16. The Power Functions XL motor has plenty of torque to get large wheels up to speed:
  17. Nice concept! Here are 1999bug's Advent Calendar creations for the first 7 days:
  18. In this Eurobricks topic, Stari89 presented his Snow Runner: In this Eurobricks topic, there is discussion about dimnix86's "Snow Version" of his Lego Hummer H1 (with its interchangeable wheels or treads): This Eurobricks topic has photos and videos of the Hungarian Truck Trial conducted in the snow:
  19. You didn't say what Lego motors you wanted to use, but if you use the Lego RC Buggy Motor, consider Jurgen Krooshoop's Small RC Red Racecar (with its 2:1 reduction). It's on Rebrickable. His Small RC Yellow Racecar uses a Power Functions XL motor geared up 1:3; it's on Rebrickable also. He wrote that "This makes the red car considerably faster, both in accelleration": and top speed.
  20. @ Jovel: I voted your offroad recovery wrecker truck, and like how the gullwing doors open.
  21. Theldkwhoyouare posted this of his Lego Technic Humvee -- "VOTE TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET: http://technic.us.lego.com/en-us/Creations/Details/Default.aspx?projectid=04d...This is my Latest model built for the "You Design it We Make it' Challenge, This model features, Opening Doors, Working headlights, Opening Hood, Opening Trunk, V8 engine (like real one), Grill plate and much more." Too bad the challenge is full of bogus entries, like this "love child" offspring between a 9398 Crawler and :
  22. @ TechnicFreak: The 42004's B-Model PDF Building Instructions are found here. Be sure to post your impressions of that set, because very few people have had a chance to get one!
  23. @ legoboy3998: Yes, there is a way to quickly recolor your LDD Steam Locomotive. Let's say that your creation is mostly Bright Red, and you want to change it to Bright Orange. Follow these steps: 1) Left-click on the "Paint Tool", then right-click on the color box you then see the "Bright Red" color. Left-click on that Bright Red color box. 2) Left-click on the "Selection Tool" arrow to see the "Color Selection Tool" (found either by clicking the fourth arrow icon, or by using the top menu sequence Tool Box --> Selection Tools --> Color Selection Tool (V)). Left-cliick on that Color Selection Tool and then click on one of the Bright Red parts in your LDD model. All of the Bright Red parts will then be highlighted! 3) Left-click on the Paint Tool, right-click on the color box you then see, and left-click on the new color (Bright Orange). All of the highlighted parts change from Bright Red to Bright Orange! The other colored parts do not change, but you can follow Steps 1-3 again to change Black to Yellow, Bright Green to Dark Green, etc.
  24. @ RVFR: Before you "Reply" to this topic, you should press the "More Reply Options" at the bottom-right corner of the "Reply" window. You will then see a way to "Attach Files" at the lower-left corner of the screen. "Browse" to your LDD .lxf file, and then "Attach This File". Everyone on Eurobricks gets a total allotment of only 150kB of "Attachments", but LDD .lxf files are usually smaller than 150kB. Once you post your file, people on this forum may be able to determine why your LDD helicopter is "hovering".
  25. @ RVFR: Yes, when you open LDD Extended Mode, type the part number for that hinge plate (44567) into the blank Search box that appears in the top-left corner of the screen (just to the right of the tiny "LEGO Digital Designer Extended" label). Press Enter, click on the picture of the modified plate you then see, and the 44567 "Plate 1x2 w/Stub/Vertical" piece will appear. You can research the desired part in Bricklink, then type that part number into LDD's Search box to find things quickly. Note that the LDD part descriptions often do not match the Bricklink descriptions, but the Part Numbers are compatible.
