  1. What bugs does v1.5 fix, and which sets are they included in?
  2. Definitely the 8297b Suspension was softer and looks more complete and more importantly, more like an "Extreme offroader!"
  3. Don't say that! I've got two that have been compressed almost constantly for 5 years on the 8297.
  4. For a mid-size, mid-range set I'm pleased with it. The truck looks like a mashup of the 42008 and the 8109, and the blue panels look delicious. The only thing I'm disappointed in is the skip. I think the shape and structure could have been made better with panels.
  5. I think i actually joined CUUSOO just for Andy the Android And as I said here in the Technic forum I reckon that the the Land Rover could go ahead as they are probably sorting out licensing. How does everyone feel about a Land Rover shell on a 9398 chassis, much like the 41999 was?
  6. Yeah the CUUSOO result was a confusing one for me too. Lego have already said that is extremely large, hinting that it would be too large for production. So why not reject the model like they had done with the other models that made 10,000? I can only assume (hope!) that the reason it is still in review is because they are finalising the licensing with Jaguar Land Rover. If approved, it's highly likely they will produce a scaled down version. Or dare I say it; another shell for the 9398/41999 chassis
  7. Is there a possibility that the "locked up themes" could be available in the same wave? That way you may only have to wait one period until a wave of regular CMFs come around.
  8. I'm shocked at how much detail the designs and drawings go into for the baseplate. Hours and hours worth - and never made it into production!
  9. Do we get a share of the prizes for helping? Is that an axlehole going through the centre of the wheel?
  10. Most were fantastic, had a shortlist of 15 to chose from but 5 stood out; 36 - VenomW Camper by NinjaNin (3 votes) 87 - Camper tree House by Bayou (1 vote) 105 - Mystery machine by sparkart (1 vote) 113 - Hover Campercraft by moctown (3 votes) 175 - Steampunk Camper by aditayam (1 vote)
  11. Look at some of the beams on the upper part of the bonnet (hood). The look like white or midstone grey beams that have yellowed from too much sunlight.
  12. Loving to see this on a small scale, and not a flexi-axle in sight really hate the blighters..! Although its a shame about the stickers and the discoloured parts (noooooo!) Nice find! Edit: Is this made solely from EV3 parts?
  13. That's very interesting to know Where is this information from?
  14. This is HUGE and looks very impressive. Can I ask why you chose pneumatic suspension instead of sprung?
  15. If the rumours about Series 13 are true, then yes, the licenses will be different.
  16. That's correct. There was a CUUSOO project created asking for a bucket of 50+ stormtroopers and their weapons. TLG responded in the 'Official LEGO comments' section that the agreement for star wars is for playsets and not action figures. If I can find the project I'll post it. EDIT: Finally found it on CUUSOO http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/2674 Here's the comments from LEGO;
  17. They are called Multiple Thread Worms. The one in the image above is a 3z MTW, meaning it has three threads (teeth). The pro of this is a 30:1 speed reduction ratio now becomes 10:1 The con is that due to the "steepness" of the threads, it requires more torque for the threads to turn the teeth of the meshing gear (becoming more inneficiant) So if a 3z MTW meshes with a 30z gear, the theoretical increase in torque would be 10:1, but in reality is much less than this. The applications of MTWs in real life is when a rotation reduction or torque increase is needed in the drivetrain at 90 degrees, but cannot be achieved by altering the speed/.torque of the input or changing the size of the meshing gears. For example in a flour mill powered by a waterwheel, the speed of the waterwheel cannot be changed and the meshing gears need to be as large as possible to produce as much flour as possible. By using an MTW, the speed of the meshing gear is increased at the cost of efficiency. I hope this helps
  18. And now we wait for Jim to pass judgement In the meantime, I think the woodworker on the left needs some eye protection...
  19. I've got a hunch that it's a rolling road for the car (dynamometer)..? .
  20. I agree. I don't think TLG has handled this as well as they could have done - and by increasing the hype all they have ended up doing is feeding more sets into re-sellers hands. I have tried to get a 41999 here in the UK, and S@H quickly became useless. So I rang up my local store in Manchester (80 miles / 2hrs away) and amazingly they had some in stock. Got there early and was greeted by a queue. there were only 12 people in front of me. When the shop opened and filed people in 2 at a time, the first TEN CUSTOMERS bought the maximum of 2. Everyone else went home empty handed. There are now 5+ on ebay selling for £500, 3.5 times more than retail. There's a point to the rant, as nychase said, I don't think TLG has done themselves any favours here by announcing a limited 20,000 stock, and also increasing the desirability by having the Dark Blue and Matt Chrome exclusive parts. What they need to do now is release a 2014 flagship in Dblue that lasts in the market for 18 months like the 8258 and the 8297 were, which won't devalue the 41999 as a product, but will at least bring the MISB price down to earth. The only problem is, how would proud owners of the 41999 feel about this, who bought the set as TLG inteded - to be built, driven, and played with?
  21. You could always LDD each model before submission to see if you fall under the 500 limit
  22. I find this part fascinating: "Approved angles are in multiples of 22.5 degrees. Some LEGO projects require an engineer to determine whether an angle is legal." I imagine most of the jobs at LEGO to be bizarre and dreamlike, but someone going around with a protractor measuring multiples of 22.5 degrees, only to dash the dreams of the master builder who offers out their prototype that they have lovingly spent the last month lovingly crafting. I cannot help but smirk..
  23. Welcome to EB! It all depends on what functions would you like to add. Lifting the bed should be easily done with a battery box behind the cab, and M/L motor in the chassis and a couple of the original actuators. Raising the 3rd axle might be trickier, but could be done with an 8258-style switch (remember all the functions achieved with just one motor. However if you want to make the functions RC, and even add drive and steering - I think you may be pushing your luck.
  24. There we go, we have come full circle! Just use the same procedure as JM1971 (or do a swap!) and you'll be crawling away in no time :)
