  1. This is a very interesting (and at times, creepy) topic. I've read tons of books on the paranormal, I've got about seven on my shelf right now and I've read more from the library, and am considered sort of the expert on it by my acquaintances, hence my signature. I haven't had a paranormal experience (although I think that it would be very interesting if I did), but several of my family members and close friends have. -My mom, when she was about nine, was riding in the car with my grandparents. She looked out the window and saw a bright light in the sky, and asked my grandma what it was. My grandma told that it was the moon, which had stayed out late that day. But the moon was on the other side of the car. She was old enough to know what all types of aircraft were, so she's almost sure it was a UFO. -A family friend, an older lady who lives alone with her dog, has had a couple of instances where the lights turn on and off in her house, room by room, at about the speed it would be if someone was walking slowly through her house. -Another family friend, who was once my mom's roomate in college, lives in a sort of rural area. One morning, she woke up really early and couldn't get back to sleep, so she went out into the living room and looked out here window. It was very dark out, but she though she saw something moving, so she looked closer. Then she saw eyes light up reflecting light like a cat's, but they were seven feet above the ground, across the street. She looked closer and saw that it was a humanoid figure, but it had to be at least seven feet tall compared to the mailbox. It walked off into the forest with a sort of loping gait, and she's certain that it was a Bigfoot or a Florida Skunk-Ape.
  2. If the blade is skinny enough, a blunt-tipped butter knife will do the trick for just about anything without marking the bricks. However, it can be hard to get enough leverage to seperate two identical plates with one, so for that I would use brick seperators or just not do it in the first place.
  3. The basplate is never as big as you think. I found that out building my portion About your cross-section... a minifig is actually 5 or 6 bricks high, and if you want them to have enough room to walk you need to give them four studs, not two. Your idea is good, you just need to scale it up some.
  4. After some concerted building, I'm just about done with my portion (59. Pirates' outpost), I just have to eliminate the overhang (which isn't allowed, right, for ease of photoediting? Because if it is allowed then I'm done). However, I would like to know if anyone else is planning on/has used Brickbeard in their portion of the build, because it would seem kind of odd to have two of him in the same town.
  5. I was sooo disappointed when I went to Mickey D's and found out that these were just three pieces. I remember back in the day, when McDonalds Lego Happy Meal Toys were made out of real legos. I still have a 2x3x1 slope with Grimace's face on it. Those were the days, those were the days.... Nice review though, it was quite an amusing parody.
  6. I wasn't so sure about the sails, but I put them on anyway. It was originally just going to have the two bottom ones. The rebel flyer is basically just an agents vehicle, I drew it in about fifteen seconds. You can do whatever the heck you want with it. Hmm... I think your best bet if you want to do a Bionicle weapon would be the Midak Skyblaster (first half of '08), as it looks the best out of all of them and is (in my opinion) the least annoying. However, I'm not a fan of any of the Bionicle launchers, and I think that a steampunk'd Vikings-style soccer chair launcher would look and play the best.
  7. That's quite clever of you! I like most everything about this MOC, particularly how you've included the bottles and draughts for his Alchemical studies in the background. Newton was so cool...
  8. I'm quite surprised that nobody's taken it, but since that's the case, I'll do 59. Pirates' outpost! Should be fun!
  9. These do sound awfully like some previous sets - hopefully they'll be different enough to be worth it. I'm just so excited that HP is coming back! I will buy The Burrow no matter what the cost.
  10. Wait a minute - Jan. 4 is the release date for the Atlantis minisite launch! On the other hand, this looks like a community build to me. Sounds like fun!
  11. Interesting - this is the set that caused so much hate a few months ago as a hundred pixel wide prelim picture. I think your standing for best $15 set might change if you picked up Guardian of the Deep, which I think is a lot better than this looks. However, there are some nice techniques on the cockpit, and it comes with the manta warrior... I'm still not totally sold on it, but you did a nice review - just try turning the flash off when you photograph the box.
  12. These are pretty nice! I just got back from a screening of Avatar myself. Are you planning on later painting some Toy Story "tall legs" and "long arms" for it? That would look pretty cool, and put it in scale. The rest of them are nice, too. The cape over the arms as a trenchcoat is clever.
  13. Howzabout this? It's more of a drawing of how it would look in real life, but it might translate into lego pretty well. Comments, suggestions? I'm worried that it's TOO much like a ship. If you would like, I could draw up a more detailed version on a full sheet of paper.
  14. The last movie that I watched was also Sherlock Holmes. I greatly enjoyed it. Downey Jr.'s performance was phenomenal, the mystery was engaging and clever, the action sequences were as good as you could hope for from the previews, and it was actually quite amusing at times. I've just been reading some of the short stories (I got the complete book for Christmas), and I don't think that it was TOO far from the original stories. Holmes was a strong guy (read the beginning of Speckled Band), and the deerstalker was never mentioned, only added by the illustrator. I rather liked it, and hope for a sequel (which they're certain to get, after it's 65mil box office performance over the weekend).
  15. Nice review! I was considering reviewing this set, until I saw this. I don't know how I missed it before. Certainly an amusing format. May I point out that a lot of people also like Howard the Duck, Hannah Montana, and Jake Lloyd as Anakin. (Actually, I was just kidding about that last one)
  16. This is a wonderful MOC! There's just so many people, doing so many things! The volcano is done very well, and the way that you did the underwater bits turned out great. However, I had no idea that Brickbeard was married to a winch... Perhaps you meant wench? There's sort of a big difference.
  17. This is very nice, and certainly action packed. It's a bit confusing though - Anakin and Vader interacting? Ah, well. The best part is the snow angel, that's terribly clever. I'd take out all the overhang though, as it isn't allowed.
  18. I didn't get Wreck Raider or the Hoth Rebel BP, because my darned and dratted local TRU didn't bother to put them on the shelves and there's no chance whatsoever of me getting into the stock room. However, I got an unexpected windfall form my stocking-stuffer scratch-off lottery ticket, so that's where that'll be going.
  19. Make a Mars Mission or Rock Raiders/Power Miners MOC, where the invading humans have stumbled upon the motherlode and the martians or Rock Monsters are making their last stand.
  20. I'm going to be re-doing the pictures to add the snowtrooper component that was in the original set, so maybe I'll add some more color while I'm doing that. If you had read the description at all (and clicked on the link), you would know that they are not bare trees but antlers. Since SW tried to put Earth into space, I wanted to put some Earthling christmas decorations into space. Cars with decorations like these are all over the place this time of year, at least where I live.
  21. I dunno, these don't seem too accurate - those cookies look much handsomer than either of the characters in the movies. They can probably act better, too.
  22. This is altogether wonderful! I particularly like the use of Kranxx's head as part of an Atlantean's 'pet', and the poor fellow tied to the mast. Trying to resist the sirens, perhaps? The tattered sail looks great, and all of your seawead is phenomenal.
  23. You did a great job on this! There's just the right amount of greebles on the inside of the wings, and the overall shape is very interesting. those cannon tips look really good, too.
  24. Now that Christmas is over, I can share fully what all I got: LEGO: -Guardian of the Deep -Hoth Imperial BP :P that's it. I need to go buy some more. MONEY: A total of $55 cash, plus the $40 I won on my scratch-off lottery ticket! BOOKS: -The Truth by Terry Pratchett -Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte -The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (duh) -TIME Magazine's Cryptids! -The Math Book by Clifford A. Pickover -The Cat King and Other Feline Tales compiled by some poor bored person. DVDs -Mythbusters Season 4 -The Great Courses: From zero to infinity, a history of numbers, hosted by Professor Edward Berger CLOTHING -Meh, who cares about what clothes I got. Not me, that's for sure. Except for the Know Your Spock T-shirt. CANDY -Premium mint M&Ms (yum!) -mini Christmas M&M's -a Pez dispenser -A box of milk chocolate vanilla buttercream Fannie Mae candies (YUM!) MISCELLANY -I got Tara, a cool Irish board game, curiously enough from my not-Irish grandma. (I have one that is Irish) -4GB flash drive that's super tiny. -A wall canvas with an Emmerson quote. -A roll of duct tape (that will soon become a lunchbox under my skillful hand) -An SAT practice page-a-day calendar -A fiber optics kit "SANTA" GIFTS In my household, we open all of the gifts from parents and grandparents on Christmas Eve, and then my sister and I each get a large "Santa" present on Christmas morning. This year's were: -TurboCAD, which I think my mom thought was AutoCAD. AutoCAD would have been a heck of a lot more useful for my engineering class. TurboCAD is only 2D renderings. -LEGO Island and LEGO Island 2, because my mom could look at Pong and Fallout 3 and not be able to tell which one was made first. LEGO Island is so old that it wasn't even compatible with Vista. I'm surprised they still sell these games. Oh well, at least I understand the controls. So, all in all, it was a pretty good Christmas. It'll get even better when I spend my lotto winnings at the DT Disney LEGO store, when we visit Disney World on the 2nd!
  25. Aargh! I wish you all would stop taunting me with reviews of this set. I wanted my grandma to get it for me, but the local TRU was out of them. Anyway, your review had something the other two haven't had, and that was build shots. I know it's not complex at all, but I still think that build shots are interestings, so thanks for them.
