That has to be the most creative MOC I've ever seen in which no two pieces are connected to each other
-
I have a period of time between dinner and when I start reading whatever novel(s) I'm on at the moment where I just boodle about on the internet, cycling through a variety of websites (facebook, flickr, eurobricks, pointlesssites, unrelatedcaptions...) some of them get new content within the time period that I'm cycling, so I keep coming back to these after visting the others to see what's gone on, and Eurobricks is the main one. For that reason, I put 4-7 times, because I usually visit about five times during my boodling hour and then again before I go to bed.

Good footprint you've got started! Perhaps you could deeplink the pictures though, just slap some [img.][/img.] tags around the URLs (but WITHOUT the dots)

This is nice, it's just the sort of spare building that a stingy 1700's army would build. However, I don't like the fact that there's only two beds - a barracks is supposed to house lots of soldiers. Perhaps if you did 3-wide bunk beds you could fit in some more berths for the soldiers?

I must have listened to of "Unstoppable" by E. S. Posthumus twenty times over the past couple of weeks. The part at 1:30 never fails to make me happy. Also, now that the Christmas season is over, it's time for me to break out "The Tragic Treasurey" by the Gothic Archies (a fifteen track CD inspired by Lemony Snicket's a series of unfortunate events. It's both somber and amusing at the same time)

Community Build: Dark Seedy Riverside Alley
Tereglith replied to Sorien Guard's topic in Pirate MOCs
Ooh, this is very nice, almost too smooth to look seedy. You've fit in a lot of great detail, the treasure cache looks wonderful. All I can say, though, is that Brickbeard must have been one of a set of triplets or something... -
I've found that brown tubes are quite useful for making palm trees. Perhaps you can do an oil-spilled beach with those black ones? I don't know...

Thanks for all your feedback, everyone! Nope, I found him too, but I judged his cape to be too warm a purple to match the big piece very well. That ought to explain it. I bought who knows how many Harry Potter sets back in the day . As I said, I would like to make the brown more uniform, but there are certain pieces (like the 1x2x3 inverse slopes by the fireplace) that I have only in dark brown, and others that I just ran out of regular brown. Thanks! A+ for you, it is the mentioned bust of Pallas Athene, . As for the size, I don't think that many average houses of the era had room for studies quite as big as the video, but I would have made it a couple studs longer with the proper pieces. I would've made it a couple studs longer with enough brown . The second picture I took from that angle randomly because I was fed up trying to photograph the raven straight on Oddly enough, I also thought of giving him tan jammies with Henry Jones Sr.'s torso, but I couldn't find my Henry Jones figure! So I just stuck with the blue. Most illustrations portray a single-colored nightgown anyway. The head is actually just a place holder, I hope to locate my "perrenially desperate" head before the week is out. Thanks again for all of your compliments!

This MOC is based on Edgar Allen Poe's classic poem, "The Raven", first published in 1845, which is arguably the most well known poem of the 19th century. You can read the complete text here. There are a couple of things I would do to improve it if I could (namely, finding the appropriate black brick to fix the raven, making the brown more consistent, and completely re-doing the roof), but as it's for a project that comes with a deadline, I won't be able to. A good overall view of the scene. You can see the raven on the "pallid bust of Pallas", as well as the fireplace with "seperate dying embers". The husband of the late Lenore (in his groovy blue PJ's) has abandoned his study of "quaint and curious volumes of forgotten lore" in favor of going crazy because there's a talking bird on his door. (apologies for the lack of velvet violet lining, I settled for maroon on the chair) This side of the room. It looks the worst, as it was completed last. I like this side of the room much better. The bookshelf turned out rather well, I think. Creative cape usage. It's what's for dinner. Anybody got any idea where I got those purple capes? I've got nothin'. The worst part of this MOC is the exterior. Ah, well, dark green plants are pretty to look at. The chimney is the sad evidence that I had to tear down my Winter Toy shop for parts The bottom half, mainly so you can see the fireplace with "each seperate dying ember" better. Thanks for reading!

You actually have made two wrongs that add up to a 'right' here! It's far too large, but it's also far too empty. If you take all of the disparate activities and pull them in to a 16x16 space (maybe deleting a couple), you'll have a wonderfully busy and properly sized torture chamber!

Well, it helps that it's mid summer in Antarctica and they're getting sunlight 24/7. If you have a facebook, here'swhat snow on palm trees looks like - someone made a group!

Nice review! I'm considering buying this set, since I can't find any of my fleshie OT characters except Han, Leia, and C-3PO - this would be perfect for filling out my cast. I had no idea that the lightsaber hilts were pearl silver now. It seems like a nice compromise, not as nice as chrome but not as expensive either, and better than light bley. I feel sorry for you over in England - the pound is about 1.5 USD, yet this set is 25 of both of them! Lego needs to get their acts together and start charging you less.
-
I'm not interested in city in the least, but your review made it interesting. Great job! You might want to tell Mr. and Mrs. Littlecouple that they should wait a month or two on that trip to Florida, as it's about twenty eight degrees right now here...
-
Believe it or not, it actually sleeted in Central Florida yesterday, and snowed in Northern Florida! Of course, it all melted after a few seconds on the ground, but hey, when you're down here, you take what you can get. However, the real surprise came when I was listening to NPR yesterday and found out that, at least yesterday, it was WARMER in ANTARCTICA than it was in Florida by about six degrees. Now that's a rare occurence.

Review 8191 Lavatraz

This set is certainly... interesting. The vending machine is terribly clever, in principal and design - it's like the coffee machines from the first wave but 'to the max'. I'll be interested to see what other ingenious things they'll come up with if the line continues. However, the coffee machine and name seem to have used up all of the cleverness, as the rest of the set looks rather a lot like rubbish. It looks like something the designers put together quick at the end of the day using table scraps. EDIT: May I also say that using Bionicle launchers of any ilk in system sets is an utterly horrible idea that ought be abandoned with speed. Especially Thornax launchers. They don't even look like any sort of real weapon -
This is a very nice and tidy little tower. Did anyone else think of the French taunters when they saw the first picture, though? "I told him we already got one!"

Seems reasonable. One less-cluttered entry thread coming right up. (by which I mean I'll edit my own post. Can't do anything about anyone else)

Hrm... I am aware of SNOT water and how to make it. However, I don't have the pieces to do so. Most of my collection is space-oriented, or just plain miscellaneous, and I don't have many blue bricks of any sort. I'll just dig up some white pieces and do what I can with 'em, then re-take the top picture quick and dismantle it. You'll be stuck with the ugly arm-waves in the rest of the pictures, but I really need the pieces.

Tereglith replied to The Green Brick Giant's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Interesting. And these prices are in Euros? And a Euro is about 1.4 USD.... *does some calculations in head* Yikes. I hope that LEGO is doing its typical rip off the Europeans thing again (no offense), because if they aren't, they're not selling ANYTHING from this line in the states. $14 for a pair of motorcycles, a trophy, and a snake? Nuh-uh. -
AhA! I was wondering when you'd catch on This is an interesting MOC. It certainly isn't what I was envisioning for the fortune-teller spot (which I considered taking at first). Considering your limited collection, it's rather well done. I would get rid of the, for lack of a better word, overhang, at the bottom, where your baseplate exceeds the 16x16 limit. And I'm also not certain why the fortune-teller is such a malevolent figure. I think that what was more intended was an old gypsy woman who reads palms, not an evil short-skirt-wearing (good job on that, btw) witch who feeds people to sharks. Then again, that's just me. Clever MOD of the Guardian of the Deep, I might add. Oh, and the photo from above is supposed to be DIRECTLY above, so that they can photoedit them together at the end. The way yours is it'll end up looking tilted. EDIT: It appears that our entries have something in common other than their earliness - they both use this piece! Pretty weird...

Here's an overall view: And an above view for the final photoediting:

The bridge is supposed to look like a rickety wooden board that the just laid there, and that's exactly what it is. I don't hink I'm going to change it. What should I do for the waves? I don't have any white tiles or anything, or enough white cheese.

You may remember this fellow from my PTVII small entry. He's still drinking rum. I'm very sorry for this picture, but it's the best one I could get of the inside of the study. I tried about ten times, and they were all much worse than this. you can get the general idea, though - there's a writing desk for letters back home or ransom notes to be sent to the governer, as well as a perch for the parrot and (maybe you can see it) Brickbeard's goldfish bowl. The current fish is named "Governer XVII". The first sixteen died in creative ways when Brickbeard was angry. Here's the front porch of the study. the pirates ealized that it was missing something soon after its construction, so they added the additional platform to hold the keg of rum. And, in the window, you get a much better view of Brickbeard's fishbowl. Brickbeard is the only one doing any work at the moment, as it's his turn at the cannon and lookout spot. Most leaders wouldn't do this sort of menial task, but he knows that it's best to lead by example. And that the other three pirates are no good at it. This fellow was the scout that the navy first sent out to investigate the outpost. He's now used as target practice for the sharp-shooting pirate. If the pirates ever cleaned up the beach (not likely) it would look like this. You can see better how the shack is integrated with the eroded rocks, and the bridge from the dock to the porch. And the above view. I'm very sorry that it appears to overhang the 16x16, but that's all down to the laws of perspective. I couldn't make it fit perfectly from a single viewpoint without tapering it inwards as it got taller, which I can't do. I also just realized that trying to have the camera directly above the shack to reduce overhang there, made the pirate on the dock appear to be leaning outwards. Whoever's editing the photos to put them all together can feel free to crop out any overhang. And that's it! I'll take comments and criticism, but I'm gonna need to dismantle this in pretty short order because I need the brown for a school project.

This is very nice, it captures the feeling of a small, boring, outcast fort perfectly, especially considering your limited piece collection. Hook-handed monkey is genius, I may just have to steal borrow that idea. He's on his own side. Although he would prefer the Redcoats to win, because pirates have a layer of dirt and grime on them that adds some nice seasoning.

Here's a good picture of a typical outfit from the new film: He's wearing some sort of oddball colors - dusky purple jacket with vertical rainbow striped shirt? I don't think that there's any torso that'll match this precisely, or even closely, not even the ones that Legostein so kindly dug up. However, in the scene at the tomb (which was obviously filmed on a chilly day, you can see their breaths in some shots), he's wearing a black jacket and, well, another crazy shirt, but a striped tie as well: You might come close to replicating this by drawing a bit with sharpie on one of the black torsoes Legostein has found for you. You might even be able to use one as-is, although you'll have to color/paint a fedora black no matter what you do. In any case, I wish you luck, and look forward to seeing your finished cast of characters.
