  1. HARRY! As in, "HARRY POTTER pwns Twilight and J. K. Rowling is to Stephanie Meyer in writing as Chuck Norris is to Rick Moranis in megablocks-kicking on screen" Sorry 'bout the off topic. Is there any sort of ingratiation towards Hinckley that I ought to engage in if I want to get in, or will this be some sort of random drawing to be picked?
  2. I'm thinking you might want to correct the age range at the top of the post - it says 6-12, and then right underneath has a picture of the box blaring 7-14... Nice review though, you really covered all the aspects of the set. If this had a sub of some sort, it would be worth fifty dollars. However, those squids do pain me to look at. The smaller one is clearly an octopus, and the larger one needs four more arms. And even if the arms were there, they would probably put the tentacles in positions 3 and 8, instead of 2 and 9 where they belong. *sigh* Schools these days, not teaching anything about giant squids.
  3. I thank you both for your kind compliments. The High Ground was going to be a weapon of the redcoat fleet, but not really a secret one. It's hard to keep even a 12-foot flying boat secret when you float it out abover you enemies and start shooting them from it. As for your concerns and/or hopes about shooting 1 bullet through it, it's designed to fly well above the range of a musket shot straight up. To get that sort of height you'd have to bring a cannon out on deck and shoot straight up, and even then you might miss, and you would certainly have a hole in your deck from the recoil. The redcoats thought this all out, you see.
  4. Tee-hee! This is great! I love the cell door and the sparse furniture. The letter is exceptionally well-written, too. Only thing that I would change would be to take some trans-clear and make the table and chair hovering, to give it that extra space-police retro-futuristic feel.
  5. I don't think it's unfinished - it's supposed to be the Jedi Starfighter from AotC, right? Either way, great job.
  6. It depends fully on who is in possession of said sunburned bottom. If it's me, it's not funny. If it's someone else, it is. Especially when they try to sit down.
  7. I realize that, but I guess my meaning didn't transfer well. Here - since I've started following the site, I've seen mostly mafia games, which didn't interest me that much. This seems much more interesting than those typical mafia games. Happy now?
  8. I'm not certain whether 16 people have signed up yet or not, but if they haven't, or if it isn't first-come-first-serve, I'll sign up. It sounds different and more interesting than your typical mafia game. Plus, it'll start just as my Christmas Break does, so I'll have plenty of time.
  9. I like the format of this MOC, the way that the setting stays the same but the actions change. However, there are a couple of things I would change - get a different species in the second picture, as members of Yoda's species are very rare. And get a proper Sidious head and a black cowl for the third picture. And by all means, put them right-side-up! Good job though, it really tells the story of ep. 3.
  10. Actually, the helmet I used was this one. I have no idea where I got it from... must've been KK1. Hey, it was good for something after all! Who knew? Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Cannons would look good, like Computerbug suggested, although not with the bright red stands that they've been coming in. If you have any of the tubes from the air-powered LOM or MM sets, painting them black and attaching them to modded weapons and things would look very steampunky and have great play-feature value.
  11. Nice job. Your steam exhaust technique looks really cool.
  12. My grandma is coming down to Florida, and I'm going to steer her towards some of the smaller Atlantis sets at TRU as soon as she gets here. My parents used to think that I didn't need any more lego (21,000 pieces is enough, for goodness sake! Your room is covered with them!), but I've showed them all of my recent MOCs and I think they're coming around, so I might get some stuff from them as well, although I have no clue what. My dad might buy me some IJ like last year, because he secretly wants to play with them (he's a big nerdy kid at heart )
  13. (Note that the governor is holding a bottle of wine that he was going to use to christen the High Ground. I was rather proud of that touch) This fellow was tasked with turning on the steam engine. Needless to say, he didn't let go of the wheel soon enough. This seemed to me much more pirate than steampunk, but then again I could be wrong. It just seemed to belong here more. C&C welcome, although mainly comments because the thing's already starting to fall apart and I doubt I'll be able to change it much.
  14. YAY! I got one vote! I'm happy now. My votes are as follows: Pellaeon - 2 Capto - 2 Black Rabbit - 1 Tom Bricks - 1 Joe H - 1
  15. Greetings! Is your name perhaps derived from the musical "Spamalot"? I love that show...
  16. I'm flattered that you like my entry so much, but I'm afeared that you joined too late to qualify for voting. Sorry. I'll be back as soon as I've considered this more closely with my votes.
  17. SIGNED I bought HP sets when they first came out, and I would buy even more if they came out again. C'mon lego, there's two more movies on the way, surely you can spot a cash cow when you see it?
  18. Algernon's only description of the queen's faction was "black and gray, more twisted and mechanical" or some such similar, so do whatever your artisitic license feels like doing. I suppose you could use that flag, although I'm not sure how many of us have it. I know that I have the orient expedition flag... . Plus, the first flag has a torso associated with it. But if you can't get it, do what you think makes it look best. As for the imperial guards, I designed one a while back (that I forgot to post pictures of ) that used the symboled torso, black legs, a red cape, a plain black head, and the black helmet thing with the tail thingy and the clip on top, the name of which escapes me. It looked pretty good, almost like a steampunked version of the red guards from Star Wars, but that's not exactly what you're going for. Your suggestion sounds fine. I would use black lances as weapons.
  19. Wow! The updated speeder looks awesome! Great job making it greebly. I wish I had that many bley cheese-graters. The smaller ones are a bit lacking - the first one is almost as boxy as the speeder was originally, and the captain's wheel isn't that great as a propeller. The second one is great as a space police MOC, but it doesn't say stempunk to me. The mech is cool-looking, but once again, I wouldn't use the captain's wheel as a propeller. The modded fedora is perfect for it.
  20. His mood indicator switches between red and blue. Read it in the SW visual dictionary. Anyways, that's pretty cool. Reminds me of the light-up lightsabers from 2005, but better.
  21. I would choose Pirate (and not just because they're totally awesomesauce). Many people have, in this thread, been touting the superiority of conditions in the navy. However, this was not the case. For one thing, once you're on a boat, you're on a boat. You aren't going to have clean clothes any longer than the pirates will. Probably even less time, because when the pirates take down a boat with a cargo of cloth they can sew more clothes. Once out at sea, the captain of the navy ship WAS the law. Cat o' Nine Tailses and other corporal punishments were used immeasurably more often on Navy ships than on Pirate ships. Pirates got an even share of any treasure captured - Navy sailors got five pounds a month, if that. Many Pirate captains had strict sets of rules regarding proper conduct aboard the ship, to prevent any crew-killing shenannigans. Some of the more famous Pirates even disallowed drinking rum after eight o'clock, and a knife fight couldn't be conducted on deck - the dispute had to be settled by the captain. Some even offered set recompense for the loss of body parts - 50 pieces of eight for an eye, 150 for an arm, 200 for a leg, and so on. Imperials had no such health insurance. And, of course, there is the awesomsauceity of Pirates. That's really what clinched it.
  22. That depends. Do you often do MOCs in which a cypress tree could be used? If you think you might, you should keep it. It could come in handy some time, like in a contest where everyone's impressed by it. However, if you can get a load of cash for it and you don't usually do MOCs that involve trees, you should sell it. Nice Christmas Tree farm, TheBrickster! They're springing up all over my state now, unfortunately without the snow No matter what they tell you, never move to Florida. Anyway, I love the variety of sizes of the trees, especially the tiny Charlie Brown Christmas one. It's so cute! Great job on this.
  23. I'm certain it has been mentioned before in the thread by more people than zouave, but I would love to have a steampunk theme as well. Steampunk, treated with the same care and innovation as the Atlantis theme. If lego wants my money, that would be the way to get it.
  24. I had that for a while, too. It prevented me from getting any serious MOC'ery done. Just think of how much better your MOC will be than the set. If it helps you any, put the set on the edge of a table and wait for you pets to knock it off for you. You drive a hard bargain on the 16x16 vignette, KimT. Looks like a trip to PaB for more smooth dark bley tiles is in order before the deadline.
  25. Nice little film! As someone else has said, the blanket water effects work great. Good choice of music, too - "Up is Down" is one of my favorite tracks from POTC.
