I sure hope so, because personally AUJ was good, and DOS was overall disappointing for me although it had some good moments. If you can fully enjoy both films I am happy for you though. I am optimistic for BOFA, there is just no way PJ could mess it up, unless he makes any alterations to certain outcomes of the battle, that would be infuriating. Btw now that you mention Gandalf's staff I'm going to have to take a look again...

I don't believe he will cut out Dain. He just plays too huge of a role in the story to do such a thing. Having just 13 dwarves in the battle is too silly of a choice. Plus that would mean we would have to get all 13 dwarves again across the four new sets, which is a particularly scary thought. That teaser of the teaser looks awesome!! I regret having read spoilers for the trailer, but, too late for that.

This isn't directly related to the sets but very much worth posting. In you can see the complete film series banner artwork, with new scenes from BOFA!

These are my predictions: 79016 Lake Town: 4 figures: Bain, Blue coat Bard, Bolg, Armored Bofur. 79017 Battle of Five Armies: 9 figures (My reasoning for this is that Mirkwood Army had one third more figs than regular $30 sets. So if Dol Guldur had 6 figs we get 9 as an army builder) Armored Thorin, Armored Thranduil, Dain, Iron Hill Dwarf x2, Armored Orc x2, 1 Armored Elf, and a Lake Town Soldier.

I think just one building, early descriptions indicated the tower with the wind lance would be included.

Good spot. It does look like the same mold doesn't it. And I did notice the purple on Onua. He might have purple eyes too.

I don't know, I'm only seeing one main color each for the Toa and either Gold, Black or White. Pohatu's got something wonky going on with his arms. Gold bones and brown armor on one arm and black bones and white armor for the other.

I'm going to go ahead and say that I think the hands are exactly the same as the existing mold. I'm looking at Tahu's left hand and it just looks like a silver 2.0 hand. And Pohatu definitely has white, no tan. Just compare it with his background and you'll see. Gali's mask looks more like MOL style, while Tahu, Kopaka and Onua's masks are definitely reminiscent of their original versions. I'm freaking out right now!!!

I fully expected that. And Pohatu has white?

There are some more pictures here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBKNJBvlouA I can't seem to find them anywhere else.

I'd say next month at some point. I just don't know what to think of this set. I like Smaug and Bilbo (even though he doesn't have a new face print. I mean come on.), but i'm just so disappointed about the build. It had so much promise back when we first heard descriptions. I expected a huge set, so the price point was like a dream for me. Now I see it, and ugh. It doesn't even have enough sand green to make anything better out of it.
-
Are you freaking kidding me?? If that's the whole set it doesn't sound like the toy fair description at all. "Lots of sand green" "Huge" Nope nope. Smaug's wings are cool but otherwise he's just too small! And that fire is just pathetic! The throne looks so bad too. A mish mash of colors instead of solid green. Why does Dwalin have a green axe??? Why are there FIVE minifigures??? Why is EVERYTHING SO SMALL??? If the picture just cuts off the rest of the set then it may still be saved. But only if the whole set is double what's in the picture!!!

October I would think.

Tumbler looks good but I would only buy it for the figs and parts so I could make a proper scale Tumbler. To me that does not justify the price at all.. I think it's quite ridiculous seeing as a Minifig scale Tumbler with Batman, Joker, and some other figs as a $70 set would sell so much better and would be more appealing for casual buyers including non-LEGO fans. Also if they didn't manage to include a fully functional Batpod with that enormous piece count then I am astounded. And it looks to me like that is not the case.

I thought a December release was established recently.. can't remember where we saw it but I was pretty sure... By the way, we might see a pre-SDCC reveal for Erebor, seeing as the UCS Tumbler was just announced.
-
Wow has anyone seen this: (not Bard) http://www.hollywood...d_split_a_l.jpg It looks so good! I'd love to see how he made the dwarf statue.
-
Army builders always have more figs. Mirkwood Spiders and Council of Elrond both had 4 figures. But hey I'm just guessing here. I'm still pretty sure Bard will pop up in a set later this year. There aren't any rules about keeping an SDCC figure an SDCC figure. Besides, not a single LOTR or Hobbit minifigure has ever been designed specifically for Comic Con. The packaging for Azog even mislead that it was a Comic Con exclusive.
-
Bard looks awesome! I definitely think he will be included in Lake Town or Dale. Past $30 sets have always had 4 figures, so I would think it would just be Bard, Bain, Bolg and Legolas.
-
Unless it's a reboot and they decide to swap genders around. I've been looking at that first picture and I thought, what if the small sets each include a Matoran and a villain? I can definitely see some spider-like creatures in the top two boxes. That makes the Defender name make more sense.

Oh my GOD THIS IS AMAZING I hope they don't go the Hero Factory route and switch up the villain every year. I want to see at least a three year long arc revolving around a single evil guy, that would be awesome.

Great review! I'm really interested in this set, I'll definitely pick it up when I can.

Nice pic! Didn't Smaug in the game have the old dragon leg mold? If the design wasn't 100% completed back then there could be a chance for an altered head mold. Does the tail look rubbery to anyone else?

My mistake! Fixed, sorry about that.
