  1. Ok... Have to ask, how? Second, if this set has finished it's production line, how long do you think it will stay on the online Lego store? I have one, but I haven't had the space to build it yet. I am just thinking about grabbing a second to build a larger village. Also, does anyone know if the Imperial Flagship has ended its production run? I wanted to get another one of those too, it is always so hard to judge these exclusive sets.
  2. Very cool. I am always impressed by you builders who can do microscale. Great job, I really like the clouds!
  3. This thread is too unruly. It is too large to find any valuable information from, and it should be closed. I am saying this because of the topic that a moderator just closed about the black pearl - although I don't know if that topic warranted its own discussion just yet, there is no point in continuing adding to this thread. No one has time to go through 128 pages of threads to find such a small bit of information, and the search function is kind of poor when it comes to finding exact information. We have a whole forum that inquiries about the POTC line should be allowed to be made in, it makes little sense to just limit things to this thread. Besides, speaking of that thread that was closed, in five months I am sure we will have similar thread that stays open as we discuss the Black Pearl. This thread was made to discuss the whole POTC line, but 90% of it was speculation about the line before we knew anything or when we knew very little. I think it has run its course, and piling everything into this thread is hurting the functionality of the forum Main point - 128 pages is too long of a thread to be very useful to anyone - especially since the search engine on the forum is not the best. This is not meant to be an attack on anyone, or a disgruntled complaint to the mod who shut the thread (as I care little about the Black Pearl thread itself), it is just an observation and my two cents. I think we would be better served with more smaller, easier to navigate topics from this point out.
  4. Second that... I probably would have been in for two had they still had them. (Although I don't believe the price is good for 1, at 180, that is a good deal for 2) But My TRU didn't have any pirates this week. Two general questions to everyone - 1st, excuse me, I have been taking comprehensive exams and writing a dissertation for the last 7 months, so I have been out of the news loops - is there a confirmation that the Black Pearl was being released? Is there a thread someone could link for me? 2nd, mods, I really think a modification contest of the QAR would be a really interesting community contest. Any possibility we could start one, or maybe an unofficial one? I am not saying there has to be prizes, but would be interesting having a contest to get the juices flowing.
  5. I should add, great review - really top notch stuff here. So top notch it has really convinced me not to buy the set unless deep discounted! ;) Good news for us in this boat, I am guessing by the extent of the previous POP release, that there is probably going to be tons of these sitting on shelves for the next year, and enough that will create some deep discounts later on. I still buy the battle for alumut (sp) every time I see it for 35 dollars or less - that set is freaking fabulous on deep discount. I believe this set will have the same value on deep discount. Had they released this at 100 dollars, I probably would have taken the plunge though. I just have too many spare parts to buy this for ship parts, and nothing about this ship screamed unique to me. I am also not into buying a bunch of them and holding them for 10 years. As that investment didn't really work for the extra MISB RRs I have laying around, lol.
  6. ugh... That is a poorly designed ship, and too expensive. I think the BB was much better constructed. That whole back-end does not seem to be functional or very good looking. The red sails are nice, and I like that it is a full sized hull. Three cannons, for four cannon ports? that seems odd. Also, the lack of any kind of deck is odd too. And the pricing for the line is just terrible. I thought PoP and Indy were a bit high, these prices are ridiculous. No set under 10 dollars might really hurt the line too. I am having a really hard time deciding if I can spend my limited lego money on such an expensive and poorly designed / priced line. Pro - the minifigures look incredibly awesome.
  7. Someone should sticky that link until we get better pictures... also, did they say that these are the only 8 sets? Or are there more? It is odd that they are releasing them at the same time as the fourth movie and not concentrating on that one movie first...
  8. I did not know him, other than his posts, but he will be missed. My condolences to his family - this is a hard time, and so shocking with someone so young. May he rest in peace (and hopefully with a heaven filled with LEGO! :) )
  9. Yeah... I am pretty confused. I am just going to applaud those who win.
  10. So did they make a 2010 pirates advent calendar for Europe? Or is this just the 2009 Calendar?
  11. This is fantastic! I wish I would have color coded my fleet! Maybe when I rebuild it (I need a permanent job and house before I can take about 40 of the ships out of storage) I will follow your model. I hope someone stickys this so I can find it again. Didn't we used to have a thread to show off fleets? I think I may have started it years ago. We should bring that back. Great job, very excited to hear about your gaming.
  12. I took a quick read, looks interesting. I am in the middle of preparing for my comprehensive exams right now, but after I take them I will break out a few of my ships and try out your rules with my brother. IT is always good to see other Lego wargamers coming up with new rule sets. We hope to role out the first version of our own game that we have been making for the last two years this Christmas. I will give more feedback after the New Year.
  13. I don't think it will be all that bad, except for the fact that if you bought the whole line you will probably have 14 Jack Sparrows. I was really impressed with both Indy and PoP. Although Indy was way overpriced, PoP sometimes had very good prices (the castle comes to mind). Also, I know a lot of us are purists, but one of these days we will all have to embrace the fleshies... they are here to stay. Consider it "diversity" in your lego world. Lastly, in response to the 4th pirates being the finale - unless this one bombs (which it won't) I would expect to see a fifth pirates in three years.
  14. For those of you around me in Dallas, Texas, USA - From what I gathered through my travels today, all of the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex TRU's had them and are out already. This is what I found out from employees that I talked with. I did not get even one :( I called one of the two Lego stores in the Metroplex (I had already read a prior post that said the other was out,) No luck there either. Does anyone know how the releases worked last time? Did stores get multiple shipments?
  15. 5 points - 7. ToR II - Final Round Entry - Redcoat - "Capt. Thomas Foolery Presents...The Ballad of the Nine Sacred Trials" By Capt. Thomas Foolery I was tempted to give a point to Captain Blue Hair, but the other redcoats in his end scene were too smart! ;)
  16. Sorry, I suppose I could have saved you time had I not been on vacation the last couple weeks, I had his direct email a friend had given me. I am glad the site is back up! Although, I always felt the game needed tweaked a bit.
  17. Signed, And to reply back to the Brick Ninja, I was thinking that myself. You would not want to have competing lines like that - just look at Megablocks, you can still find both pyrates and Pirates of the Caribbean on the shelves still, and I doubt they make them anymore. (Not that I am really paying much attention to MB)They released those both at the same time, and the ships were all cheaper for the Pyrates then the PoC... So in most cases, which do you think parents bought? I have a few fears if Lego is getting PoC. One, they will be dumbed down like many of those Harry Potter sets. I actually think the PoP sets are pretty rocking though, so maybe they will keep up the quality. And heck, if we can get two ships at decent prices, I would be very happy. Second, PoC might last like Indy did (BTW, is LEGO done with Indy then?) Ranging three or four years and four or five movies... meaning we probably won't see Lego Pirates for another ten years. I love the movies, but I much rather see original Lego sets staring some of our past favorites and new Lego factions to come. But, any pirates is good for me.
  18. They did somewhat, I didn't really have the money until this summer to buy any of them. I actually have not bought any of the smaller sets, but I really need to get some before they are all gone. As for the information products, I have looked into that. Teaching college classes still pays a lot better when they are offered to you. That and creating information about pirates is hard, because there are so many enthusiasts it is hard to tell the difference between a professionally trained historian and a pirate buff when deciding where to buy your information.
  19. Cool, Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
  20. I see everyone's points. I guess it just seems so alien to me, as if the last time I opened my pocketbook to Lego (over two years ago, just look at the dates between my posts this month and the last time I posted!!!) pirate ships seemed to be cheaper. Like I said, I have way too many ships to think about buying MISB for opening, or even for owning. Of course I say this as I just raided the last two 6243s from the TRU nearby because it was BOGO 50%. I probably will only open one and hold on to the other - either for a rainy day or for selling ten years from now. Although I said that about the Red Beard Runner in my closet at home, or the stacks of ninja knights I bought in the 90s! I keep thinking, "Oh, I am going to sell that!" and I never do. All that Viking Lego also just sits there saying "open me" when I originally thought it said "sell me..." I think I have some shell sets from the 90s just lying around too. I think my student loan companies might like some of that MISB money! Right now I am trying to find the most economical way to get more imperials... I probably should sell a few of those sets for cashflow. Also I suddenly realized I am going to have to start teaching more classes in order to continue buying Lego, especially with the new Kingdoms coming out. If only there was actually adjunct work for a pirate historian!
  21. Hello All, So I have been trying to build up my imperials lately to crew my new Imperial Flagship, so I have been lurking Ebay looking for deals. Anyway, I came across a sealed BSB that is ending today and gasped. Now I am not looking to buy a BSB (I have at least three complete, that I didn't buy NISB) but I am fascinated with this auction because of the ridiculousness of the prices. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260632025202&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I thought I would spark a discussion here about prices of sealed sets, and do you think they are worth it? Also, I know I have seen a poll a few years back on this next question, but I am going to ask it anyway - What do you do when you buy a sealed set that has been discontinued? Do you open it, store it, display it in box? At the time of posting this, the BSB had 20 hours left and was at 377 American dollars, with the reserve still unmet. That seems to me way too much to pay for this ship. I think the most I have ever paid for a BSB is 110 dollars (albeit seven or eight years ago.) But I put mine together, they are already opened, and I just keep the box around and do nothing with it really. Even before this set was re-released as a classic, the price of a MISB was only around 210 American... Has the extra years really been that kind to this set? And in finality, is there a point where Lego prices for sealed sets get absurd in your mind? This post is not intended to knock anyone's collecting habits, I just wanted to get some feedback on why people pay so much for something, when they can buy four of them opened and have a super sweet fleet battle!
  22. Do you think they will drop to 50%? Is target known for slashing that much off a set, and is there a certain time of year they do this? I am only really interested in that TOD, but I would pick up the large Space Police set for $50!
  23. 7pts ToR II Redcoat Entry - "Capt. Thomas Foolery's Scintillatingly Scurvy History of the Coats" by Capt. Thomas Foolery Which pains me, since if I would have entered, I would surely be a bluecoat...
  24. It seems that the only alive game that has a site away from these forums is brickwars. Maybe that should be updated? I feel like there are a couple that are missing. Perhaps Evil Stevies Pirate game should be listed also.
  25. I think this is an instant classic. Hilarious. The tub scene made me spit water everywhere.
