  1. I've noticed, for the most part, the last 2 digits denote the color. You can easily see this on the PAB site. For example a 1x1 WHITE brick is 300501, the same brick in RED is 300521, the same brick in BLUE is 300523. Speaking of PAB, I sent an email to LEGO complaining about how difficult it is now to build models and order the parts through PAB and here is the response" "Dear Sal, Thanks for your interest in our products. I'm sorry for the frustration you have been going through! One of the down sides with the original LDD software was the limitation of types of bricks, many people contacted us asking for more. But we could not provide that service because you were able to purchase sets directly from the Design byMe. Now that we no longer have the purchasing from Design byMe we are able to add a larger palette of bricks that we could never have had before! To be honest Sal, I do understand your frustration and have passes on your suggestion to the web design team for them to look at. I can also tell you that your idea has actually been floating around here, and we are trying to see if we can incorporate it somehow. Thank you again for contacting us. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reply to this email or call one of our friendly Customer Care Advisors at 1-800-835-4386 (from within the US or Canada) or 1-860-749-0706 (from outside the US or Canada). We are available Monday through Friday from 8AM - 10PM EST and Saturday through Sunday from 10AM to 6PM EST. 2. I totaly agree 100% I just send a complaint to LEGO. Now, whats the difference between the "basic LDD Mode" and the "LDD Extended Mode".
  3. A quick search of bricset.com came up with a news story and this quote: "The HERO Recon Team Hero Creator will be unchanged and consumers will still be able to build and buy their own customized Hero. Bricks can be bought separately, using the Pick a Brick service http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme ." Sal WFB, WI
  4. I thought PAB Was not closing just DBM?
  5. Is there anyway, when building, to know what parts are avaliable through PAB or not? I purchase all my parts through PAB and it seems they have added alot of parts in alot of colors, that I doubt they are all avaliable in PAB THanks Sal WFB, WI
  6. the 4 inner screws and the ones holding the pcb board on, I believe are star screws, not philips. The rechargeable battery box uses star screws. Sal WFB, WI
  7. Here in Wisconsin most garbage trucks and recycling trucks are identical except for some logo denoting a recycling truck. In my municipality, both garbage and recycling trucks are blue, the only difference is the recycling truck has a small logo on the side with the triangles circle and a message saying something like "Whitefishbay recycles". Also these trucks have the most accurate front for the ones I see most operated by mnicipalties around here. I bought 2, one for garbage (no stickers) and the other for recycling (with stickers), and modiffied the back to operate more like a real truck. Otherwise they are spot on for either garbage or recycling. Sal WFB, WI
  8. You can just turn the second PF motor. The wire comes out near the top allowing a coupler to still be attached. Sal WFB, WI
  9. With ME-models making metal track it made me wonder if you could combine both worlds. The setup will work like this: PF motor with pickups (Brass strips) toucing the track, PF wire cut and soldered to the pickups connected to the "input" side of the IR reciever (the wire off the IR reciever that you connect to the battery), "output" side of the IR reciever connected to the PF motor. All the positivs of PF with the unlimited power of 9V. The track would need full 9Vs at all times so you could just buy 9V plugs and solder the wires to the track, there is no need to change the speed. There should be no polarity issues, just like in 9V you can have switches and everything with no problem. Even Crossovers, as long as connected correctly should not have polarity issues. The only time you would is for Wys or reversing loops, which would short circuit the track. As long as you dont have the track short circuited, the only issue you may have, is when you want to go foreward, the train goes back, flip the switch on the IR remote, problem solved. Also, the short PF extension wire (the one with the 9V plug) has a built in bridge rectifier, whitch makes it so the DC pulses are always going the "right" way so if you run the power from the pickups through that, and a 9V wire, you would also eliminate the polarity issue, if there was one. Yes, this setup is best suited for the large Clubs and individuals who already have large 9V layouts. But again, with the ME-models metal rails, it will make 9V tracks easier and cheaper to get. I mostly wanted to see, if I decided to invest in Me-Models Metal rails, could I eliminate the Batterybox from my 6 wide NA style diesels. This would give me room inside to add things like a sound module for horn, bell and prime mover. Sal WFB, WI
  10. I have come up with a way to eliminate the battery box from the PF setup. I have created electrical picups out of brass strips from the local hobby shop. Bent them in an L shape and soldered wires from a PF cable cut in half. Allows the use of the PF system while picking up power from 9V tracks. Ill post pics and a more detailed explination once I re solder the wires (I soldered the outside two when I should have soldered the inside two). Sal WFB, WI
  11. I am in the US and use PAB and its about 2 weeks, 3 at most. Anything over a month and Id call customer service. I never order through DBM, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. Sal WFB, WI
  12. I picked up some (somewhat glossy) sticker paper from a local hobby shop and use Microsoft Word to makeup my decals. You can see some examples on My Flickr. When I have a chance, I need to make new ones as I just rebuilt my three locos. Hope that helps. Sal WFB, WI
  13. Here In Milwaukee, WI, on the east side of the downtown AMTRAK station there is a curved crossing. http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=r54zjw7p6kjq&lvl=19.101379819244794&dir=11.072876150240983&sty=b&form=LMLTCC Sal WFB, WI
  14. What I do is use LDD Manager to great the parts list, then order the parts through Pick A Brick. I recently ordered 487 pieces through PAB It was $66, through DBM $105. You can save quite a bit that way.
  15. Aanchir, if thats the case it should be one or the other. Im fine with the flat fee. As far as packaging the only difference between PAB and DBM, is the DBM set is put in a generic DBM box (white and a kinda puke green color lettering and trim), I dont belive they print pictures anymore and I believe instructions are extra. Which brings up another point, there is an option when ordering DBM sets for customized pacakgin and instructions, IIRC, otherwise its the generic DBM box with a PAB bag filled with the parts inside. Id be happy if they would by default would be just like PAB (no DBM box) and have the DBM box be extra also. Your thinking about the guantity af parts being an issue and the cost of the program should be covered by the flat fee, otherwise you shouldnt have it. Your charging me a flat fee plus up-charging the parts why not one or the other. Id even be happier with a tiered flat fee, $10 for 0-100 pieces 20 100-200 etc, something like that would cover all the issues and wouldnt be such a rip-off. I just placed another order last night, 487 pieces, DBM $105, PAB $66, total with shipping $73. With shipping i still save +25%. Sal WFB, WI
  16. I had broght this up on other forums back when there was the big price issue with a release of LDD. In LDD they charge you $10 US to start with for any set, and the individual pieces are higher in price (with a few exceptions) than PAB. Since then, I never ever order direct through LDD, rather I use LDD Manager to print out a parts list and order the parts through PAB on LEGOs website. on my last order (in March 2011), I was able to save 25%, that was enough to buy 2 of the new PF train motors and pay for shipping and still save about $20 US. I e-mailed LEGO about this back when I first discovered this and their response was. "...The reason for the difference between the Factory and the Pick a Brick section is that the Factory has special considerations such as packaging and the extra time that it takes to package the custom sets..." I get the $10 US dollar charge for the box, but is it not the same amout of labor as picking the parts ordered through PAB? Sal WFB, WI
  17. I agree that would be nice. I also only buy through PAB because it is about 25% (based on my last order) cheaper than through LDD (DBM). The extra time it takes to print out and manually find the parts in PAB is worth the savings. On my last order that was enough to buy 2 of the new PF train motors and pay for shipping and still save about $20 US. That reminds me I want to mention that in the ambassaders forum. Thanks for the program Superkalle, just updated to the new version and it works great. Sal WFB, WI
  18. I agree with Spike, I use LDD Manager to create parts lists to order models made in LDD through PAB because the price through PAB is significantly cheaper than through DBM. Sal WFB, WI
  19. While I cant really comment on the majority of your concerns the one thing I will say is: Once you build what you can in LDD use LDD Manager to generate a parts list, than order the parts through LEGO Pick A Brick on their website. It is a little time consumming but I just ordered a model which through DBM was $270 and through PAB was $188. So I will never order though DBM again, if I can help it. Sal WFB, WI
  20. I'm just wondering what the availabity of the sees 3 figs is in th U.S. I live in Milwaukee, WI an have checked a few TRUs in the area fairly regularly and they never have them and never know if or when they will get them again. Most of the TRU employees know exactly what I'm looking for but say they havent seen them in a while. So my question is are they available at TRU in the U.S. Or any other stores? Thanks, Sal WFB, WI
  21. Looks good, however the net really should be more square where the back meets the top, and the sides should be round near the bottom. Yours look a bit too much like soccer goals. Like this When the series 4 monitors come out, I'm going to get a bunch of the hockey players and make a pond hockey game for my chrismass layout. Sal WFB, WI
  22. I knew I had seen one done in LEGO but couldn't find it. Sal WFB, WI
  23. I upload the .LXF file to Brickshelf www.brickshelf.com and then post a link here. I dont know if others have another way, but thatswhat I do. Sal WFB, WI
  24. Here is my idea. Pic and .LXF file (when made public). There is enough room between the fan blade and car chassis for a brick built wall. I may have to look into building one of these. Sal WFB, WI
