Atramor whips out the Pheles Kris and slashes at the Gigas from the back row.

It's logical, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look silly. For the most part droids in Star Wars have been clunky and slow. This astromech droid looks a beach ball being blown away in the wind. It doesn't really fit the aesthetic, compared to pretty much everything else in the trailer that represents a natural evolution of technology in the OT. You can immediately recognize the X-Wings, the Falcon, and Stormtroopers, but compared to R2 that droid just looks bizarre.

Heroica RPG - Quest #114: The Tale of the Sea Fiend
CMP replied to CMP's topic in The Heroica Archive
With no resistance, Melvin returned with a fresh cannonball and loaded it. The young sea fiend merely eyed the gun warily, as if waiting for movement. When it did, it was too late for the creature - the cannonball tore through its head, killing it instantly. Ribbons of blood flowed through the water as Kjorfalneire's progeny sunk to the seafloor. "Good riddance. We didn't need that thing coming back to bite us in the megablocks." The captain looked sideways at the heroes as she tugged the wheel in one direction. "Have to say, when you've got a goal you don't screw around. That's a bottom line anyone can respect." Illdria scratched her chin in though. "And always something to look for..." The creaking, leaking Magpie remained strong despite its damage, sailing on a fresh wind north as the cold night set in. The reign of the sea fiend was ended, never to rise again. Lane would ensure Melville and the Bonapartes were aware of the heroes' success, and would no doubt increase their standing with the house. But after a day's worth of preparation and the ultimate annihilation of an ancient sea serpent, the heroes were quite content with the uneventful ride back to Eubric. --- Six Weeks Later --- Val Hellsinger was, at long last, winding down, just as the candle had begun to spill over its small tray. The bard looked round at the more or less attentive faces of the rest of the Midnight Society with some satisfaction. "And so back to Eubric the heroes sailed. Through will and might they had truly prevailed. The battle was won and the fiend was dead. Only four last words needed to be said: THE QUEST WAS SUCCESSFUL!!!" The bard exclaimed this last line with conviction and obvious conclusion, looking around at the rest of the Society expectantly. The new astromech looks impossibly dumb in my opinion, but I'm okay with the lightsaber design. Everything else looks awesome.

"It's no handcannon, but I like it," remarked Atramor, ripping the card out of the Decamodifier and pocketing it. "Arthur, get the gun on that second thunderbird. At this rate I could have a full deck."

Miderun nodded in agreement, and strained her ears to try and catch even a snippet of the conversation between the elf and the yellow-eyed female. It seemed like some sort of illicit trade given the location. Was this the source of his shame? -

"Agreed." Miderun discreetly tails Fogfarer, in what feels to her like a useless attempt at subtlety. -

The thing is that this game's been going for a long time. If you look at the earliest quests and characters, there were always choices to make, but overall someone would probably end up coming out on top. As the characters have evolved so have the quests and the choices in them. Look at Quest 1. I LOVE a short and sweet quest like that, but everyone who was there is now around level 30 or 40, and it was just so simple a concept (not in a bad way, of course). Typically quests now have a lot more depth. In any case, Matthias has been on like two quests, no doubt he'll have a chance to be the stereotypical character in some quest further down the line. I will the say the choices I saw in Quest 102 were so convoluted and entangled with one another that it ceased to be gray and gray morality and became the ugly brown I'd get by mixing all my fingerpaint colors together as a kid. I like moral quandaries but if you can't even tell in hindsight what the implications of your choices meant then it's just too complex. One of my favorite choices was at the end of Quest 75. Put an end to the bloody rebellion trying to rebel against an overbearing government, or help them out? It was a well-fleshed out conflict but it's fairly easy to see the foundation of it.

The party sorts out their items and loot as the Magpie sails out of the storm, the rain lessening. The crewmates manage to push the corpse of Kjorfalneire off. Reg has Briar heft the Sewer Wolves' things, then grips Kiray's hand in an almost-rough shake. "Yep. Good working with you. Nice to see some heroes haven't completely lost their heads." Briar stares at Francis. "Twitch? I have a twitch!? Why didn't anyone- o-oh, well, it doesn't really matter now. Thanks for, uh, you know, helping me, not die. It was, um, well, it was, I mean, I didn't die, so that's good, thanksmanseeyou." Lane merely nodded stiffly at the party, with a slightly less stern glance at Mizuki. "Yeah. The thing's dead. Better stay that way. And it better've been worth it," he adds, looking sideways at the Wolfgangers with their treasure. "Indeed. Hell of a thing you just pulled off, heroes. I can think of a few dozen people who'll be relieved that it's gone, and an entire city who knowingly or not will benefit from it." She looks off into the distance. "Hmph. Perhaps the Bonies do give a-" The deck suddenly tilts sideways, and it's just enough to put everyone off-balance, although it was a gentle nudge compared to Kjorfalneire's thrashing. "Cap'm, we've 'ot amover ome off fhe porf bow!" Everyone's gaze slid off to the side. The waters bubbled and churned and shook. A second beast, along for the ride; its dim red eye now a well-known look. The feared return of Kjorfalneire! ...except this one was smaller. Finding words to rhyme with Kjorfalneire is understandably difficult. An ill-looking mage and his cat stumped over to the edge of the ship and looking down, entirely unfazed. The stunted sea fiend, an almost perfect mirror of Kjorfalneire, only blinked back at him and the entire party morosely. "Interesting. It seems our sea fiend found something similar enough to mate." "This thing is its child?" "It appears so. And a recent one, at that. Weeks old at the most. If Kjorfalneire has been protecting its egg for an extended period of time, it likely finished off local sources of its usual diet some time ago. This would explain Kjorfalneire's violent hunger for ships. This one could hardly capsize a rowboat, much less feed itself." "We'll spare it the misery. Melvin, load the cannon and kill that thing." The dwarven crewmate headed belowdecks for some ammo. What would the party do? Rounds Nine - Eleven of Sea Fiend Smackdown Magpie fires at Head - (40 - 5 = 35 damage, Head KO'd) The Magpie's crewmembers unload on Kjorfalneire's head. The monster tears chunks out of the deck, but ultimately succumbs to the hail of cannon fire brought down on it. The sea fiend thrashes once more, with a fierce, but hollow roar, that slowly dies out as the creature goes still, lying limp in a pool of blood. There's a few moments, where everyone is silent under the wailing wind and rain. "Good. Only right my ship should finish this thing off. I'll get us out of this storm." The captain returns to the helm. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS!!! Everyone gains double experience. The enemies drop a lot of stuff. I should have the Decamodifier in my inventory now. Atramor pulled the Tiger Claws out of his cloak, stuffing his hat down onto his head as McCafferey got the hell off his shoulder and buried her talons onto a safer part of the deck. The regulator's wild mind kicked in as the stormy foes assaulted Destiny's Bounty, and he sprinted between Sylphs A and B, raking the claws across them as he went. "Will do, but leave the third sylph for the cannon once we thin these bastards out, I wanna see if this Decamicrolator works as well as the doc says." He then whirled the Tiger Claws at Thunderbird B from the front row.

I never had any set-in-stone original intent, so....definitely the second one. Letting the game shape your character is one of the best parts of roleplaying.

Atramor leaned against the mast and watched the Bounty cut through the thick ocean clouds effortlessly. McCafferely clung tightly to his shoulder, but he enjoyed the ride. Despite having spent a good ten years pillaging them, he always felt most at ease sailing. Apparently that extended to sailing through the air as well. "Seems even faster than before, Mister Legonardo." "We were hittin' a small army of rebels who were occupyin' the caves above this village. Got attacked by rocs on the way. One of them grabbed me and nearly threw me into the sea but I managed to ride it back to the ship," replied Atramor idly. "Then we passed through the village which was owned by a group of panthers and climbed up to the cliffs to kill like thirty guys with a giant lizard, a yeti, and our squad of automatons. Then we destroyed their leaders; a few aoi, a dude with a sword the size of Skrall, and someone who I'm sure was Nyx's long-lost twin sister judgin' by all the explosions. There was also this giant tiger demon and their pet magic dragon, and one of the aoi tried to kill me by throwin' meteors and black holes at me. Then we got outside and prevented another aoi from usin' his airship to strafe the village of panthers." "If ya' wanna call those wonders." "Damn. I've seen what those machines can do. Ya'd almost have a better chance facin' one of these airships than a squad of those things." Atramor shrugged. "Well, if ya' find out who did it, I'm sure there's a Hall stuffed with heroes ready to go nail the thieves." The regulator blinked at the strange device Giaconda was holding. "Decamon, huh? Wonder if it plays like Heroica RPG..."
