Heroica RPG - Quest #114: The Tale of the Sea Fiend

"Get offa me," slurred the leprechaun, his face red with drunkenness, pushing Kiray away. "I'll pay when I've damn well gawt the money." The man Actaeon has been speaking to yelled across the room to him. "Not before you've got our money, yes, my little friend?" "Don't paternize me you cheats." "Ye made the bet yerself. Ye just forgot to specify the conditions. And that's why ye owe us."- 336 replies

Atramor vaults over the statue and swiftly swings the Pheles Kris through the air, shaking the blood and coarse hairs off easily. "Let's go upset some Pongcanae." -

"Sorry. I'm running a business here. 200 gold would also work, if you can swing that." Camorea eyed Francis suspiciously. "For money, huh? At least you're honest about your goals. Looks, if you're trying to find help, go get the damn leprechaun at the bar to pay his tab. Maybe I can scrape something up for you. Might help you pay off Illdy here."- 336 replies

"Really?" Illdria eyed Lane. "This Bonaparte is helping you, hmm?" "This lady is wanted by the Bonapartes in a dozen different ways, Kiray," stated Lane bluntly. "Petty charges, really, but I'm getting the impression we're just scraping up criminals from every corner of Eubric to throw at this monster. That, I have issues with." "I have issues with you asshoIes too, but the military side of things? I can work with. The bureaucratic idiots that watch over these docks? I don't think so." "I can get that, but those 'idiots' keep smugglers and stowaways out of Eubric. But I bet you'd know a lot about that smuggling, miss. Your ship's been flagged for a full search and probably impoundment afterward once it docks." "It's amazing the credentials you can get faked these days. A few coins to the right guy in customs and the whole bureaucratic loop gets thrown off its silly little rails." Illdria shrugged. Lane continued staring hard. She turned back to Kiray. "I sail my own ship, I've got a full crew, all of us can do combat if it's needed, and I just got in some shiny new cannons. I can about guarantee it's better than any tub the Bonapartes are letting you use. On the flipside, I can't work for free, even for Heroica. I've heard a lot about this sea beast. If it's as big as they say it ought to have a lot of fat on it. Give us half of that. I have some contacts who'd pay a hefty sum for some of the stuff."- 336 replies

Where the hell is everybody? "Captain Illdria of the Magpie." Illdria shook Kiray's hand. "My ship is independently owned, by me of course, and I run shipping trips all over Olegaia. I've actually run a few jobs with you Heroicans before too. Don't let Camorea get to you, she just thinks your organization has neglected Eubric in its bid to 'save the world' or whatever it is you're doing these days." "For good reason. The original Veterans wouldn't've let this mess happen."- 336 replies

"Anyone want anythin' in particular?" Atramor pushed the corpses out of the way and moved to C17, McCafferey eyeing the dead Pongcanae as they went. -
Ice Climbers were dropped because Nintendo couldn't make them work on the 3DS version (too many fighters on-screen I suppose to keep the frame rate stable). Of course that's when they were saying the rosters were identical (unless I'm misremembering) and now they've announced Wii U just will just outright have more fighters, so...

"Hmph." "If you're looking for sailors, I may be able to lend a hand. I have a good ship and a fine crew. What's the cargo? Or...the target?" Lane raised his eyebrow at the woman and looked sideways at Kiray, seeming a tad concerned. "Afraid not. Even if I did want to. You could go and ask her yourself."- 336 replies

"He's ordered about the last of it, I'm afraid. Madam Camorea still has some hidden away in the back." Camorea snorted. "Haw. Are all heroes so impertinent these days? By Mercutio, it seems like every generation of Veterans just breeds more arrogance." Her bulbous eyes slid over to the human woman at her side. "Would you believe one of their founders pulled this place out of bankruptcy?" She shrugged. "The heroes I've served with are typically more reasonable." She stared hard at the party. "Pretty poor way to go about recruiting people, hm? I had to kiss some serious megablocks when I started out, but now I've got a ship, I've got a crew, and I set the rules. If you're looking for trouble, know I owe Cammie a few favors and would be quite content tossing you out on the street to be swarmed by a hundred hungry beggars. If you're looking for people, perhaps you could be a bit more specific."- 336 replies

"That's Madam Camorea to you, missy." "And everything that happens in here is my business. If you're here looking for something, you go through me. Especially if you're Heroica. I'll ask once more: what do you want here?" "What? Of course not. We're just suspicious of heroes running amok in the Hovels is all." "And for damn good reason. They let the Houses block off this entire district, you've got no business having the run of the place in here, where people have to work themselves ragged for a living." "Fresh out hun, sorry." She frowned and tilted her head accusingly at the drunken leprechaun at the end of the bar. A full bottle of ale swung from his hand, but he hardly even seemed aware of it.- 336 replies

"Really now? Interesting ye should mention a sea beast-" Whales was interrupted by the sound of something that sounded distinctly like an enormous snail slither into the room. A hulking thug slug (and a rather gussied-up one at that) wormed her way into the main room of the Locale, guffawing croakily at a sharp-looking human at her side. "Bonapartes? Indeed?" "I've dealt with more than enough to know one when I see one, Cammie." "Haw haw! I guess you would." The thug slug - Madam Camorea, presumably, frowned, halting in her slime-covered tracks and inhaled the air, a sour, annoyed expression crawling across her face. "Heroica. I should've known Trovsty would let something...unpleasant slip through his fingers." "That's why I got you, Madam." "Good. This is exactly why I train you girls." Camorea slithered over to Francis, one eye practically bulging out of its socket at him, inhaling deeply. "Haw. You're still green, boy. Haven't even made it to your advanced class, have you?" "...What does that mean?" "Nevermind that. I always knew one day Heroica would come walking back through my door. I never doubted that. Something made it inevitable. The only question here is why heroes have come crawling back and begging for help. Where's your party leader, boy?" She snapped intimidatingly. "Or maybe you'd like to explain your presence here yourself?"- 336 replies

You and Namyrra rolled Special Damage, and the Pongcanis are out of range. You can just autoroll whenever you have the time, Doc. I can't see any of us changing our actions. -
Eight players seems excessive for the pace of the game. I personally don't care for the bigger maps so I'm not super upset that I won't be able to experience it. I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the portable nature of the current game and how easy it is to just pick up and play a few matches whenever. 3DS version is more than enough for me, personally.

"Ale." "You'd have to ask Madam Camorea about work. She oversees all the business that goes on here. More importantly, she'll want to know why Heroica is back and recruiting in her place..." There was some quiet, but obvious discontent in the girl's voice as she finished. "I'll go and fetch her now..." She slipped out from behind the bar and went into one of the doors attached to the main room. "Really now? Ye have my attention lassie. Dragged Thim off here so we could drown our sorrows in booze'n women, but good, profitable work beats that any day'o the week. What've ye got?" "Nat's not-" "I'll take this one Kharad." Natnail looked towards Actaeon quite seriously despite his obvious drunkenness. I don't think so. Fer one, I don't have a sword to sell right now, damn ogre wouldn't let it inside. Fer two, I'm busy. Fer three, I don't like yer face." Kharad sneezed out half of his drink in deep laughter as the elf at his side giggled along with him.- 336 replies

"Ah, 'fraid I can't do very much for ye lass. I lost my ship, The Mercutio, last week." Whales sighed and shook his head. "If yer lookin' for a ship, you'll have to look elsewhere I fear." The dwarf, Thimlin, pulled away from the woman, and very nearly tripped off his footstool. "...Hmm? Yup. Mushroom man. Forget the name. Redcap?" "Of course not. I'm only a...business associate of Nat here." "Sets up work for sellswords like meself."- 336 replies

" 'Fraid I wouldn't know, didn't spend too much time there before I had t'head on back to Eubric. I'm a sailor by trade, ye see. Cap- erhm, well, just Whales now, I s'pose, at your service, miss. Aha, and that hairy little bastard over there is my first mate Thimlin." "..so I says 'take that thing you call chive- chisel- ' aw hell I ferget- and, damn if I remember the rest, but ye should've seen the look on 'is face." The dark-skinned man laughed loudly, spilling a little of his drink on the elf at his side in the process. "Oh hell Nat, I wish I coulda been there. But whatever, makes up for that time you missed me and that mermaid when we went down to Charis." "Always with you and the damn ladies." The armored 'pirate' looked over at Actaeon. "Hey, what're ye looking at?" The cloaked figure regarded Francis silently. "...." The woman manning the bar shook her head at Francis as she cleaned out a goblet. "No good sir, he's been here for almost half an hour and hasn't said a word. Just this weird note."- 336 replies

The woman serving drinks at the bar eyed Kiray suspiciously as she scoped out the Locale for valuables. There were an almost uncountable number of dusty old paintings hung on the wall over peeling wallpapers. They were older than anything displayed at Heroica Hall - or anywhere she'd seen in Eubric, for that matter. The stairs creaked as she walked up them to the second level, walking pointedly past the dwarf on the footstool making out ferociously with one of the girls and over to the old, beared man that appeared to be dressed up as some kind of knight. "Hoy there lass! Were ye hopin' to squeeze in here, or, ehm." The man paused, taking in Kiray's appearance and coming to conclusion she probably wasn't one of the working girls. "Pseudos, aye? God of justice 'n what have you? Can't even keep up with the deities they keep spinnin' yarns about these days, haha!"- 336 replies
