  1. i'm sorry but i am just not getting it. i can't see how that technic thing is a dragon. i suppose i need more imagination for that to work. maybe i should just stick to system dragons. :-P
  2. i agree with most that it is very shoddy work. we have seen better mocs on brickshelf. and don't tell me it is not possible to make smooth planes. you can certainly do something about the fuselage if not the nose. like those curved pieces from set 7706 used for the missile barrage. if the us airforce were to commission lego to make a f15 model will we get to buy one? :-P i understand the policy of not making war toys but how about a concord? certainly that is sexier than a boeing. and eu is not the largest market :-P usa is. that's why we get super bargain price. :-D
  3. ah...thanks yoda. guess the price point is more like $50 then. :-)
  4. i never actually liked any lego sculptures. none of the ferrari cars look decent enough to buy. i prefer to buy tamiya models if i wanted actual replica of the real thing. on the other hand, some of the original creations were rather spiffy. like the black roadster from set 4896 or the bikes from set 4893.
  5. i hope those prices mean holland and france got screwed. :-) and that the set retail in the us for $30-$40. :-D
  6. yup...agreed with you...that's why i said i am sure some BL members will get their hands on these items somehow and since they are rare (not everyone visit japan or live there) they will be very expensive.
  7. i got a 7706 hero tank from tru. :-$
  8. there are actually many ways to save money. they can make smaller boxes and save on shipping cost and packaging cost. cardboard is also less sturdy and more expensive than plastic. having smaller plastic boxes save more money than large, easily damaged cardboard boxes. the retailers would definitely welcome smaller packaging as it will save them more shelf space. having more sets on the shelves (as opposed to fewer but larger sets) would provide more eye candy and push the products better. in the meantime if lego get their act together and start using expos and exhibitions to better promote their products they wont have to make use of shelf space (and designing super large 75% empty boxes) to do their marketing campaign for them. :-| we are in the new digital age and still they use stupid old fashion marketing strategy...monkeys indeed....
  9. It looks more like a combined model then something new to me. that's why i said "NEW". :-| anyway from the subsequent photos, i gather that if you bought 2 or more exo-force sets you will be given the NEW decals and instructions to make those models. it's a collaboration between lego and that guy to sell more sets. well, i guess we will see decals and instructions soon for sale at exorbitant price from BL.
  10. there's something "new" for exoforce. i cant make it out fully but the japanese said something about the original exoforce maker as vanforce. whoever that is...i would assume is the guy in the picture.
  11. you've gotta be kidding me. the picture showed $59.99!!
  12. well, my guess is that the reason they keep releasing x-wing is because they cannot continue to sell 4502 or even 7140. all retail shops clear their stock at the end of each season (or year). but clearly some sets sell better than others and to keep selling these sets they basically have to change it slightly, give it a new number and viola! it's a "new" set!!! x-wing is so iconic that even non sw or lego fans may just get one for display or keepsake. it's a brilliant idea by lego to get around the legalities. now, if only lego own the license, then maybe they dont need to recycle and can just keep selling 4502 or 7140 as long as they like. kinda like levi jeans 501. if you own the rights, you can keep selling 501 jeans as long as you keep producing them. but if you are licensing, then obviously there are contractual terms you need to adhere to. on the other hand it would be a marketing ploy like what most of you said. if consumers know lego is going to sell 4502 for like the next 10 years, then there is no rush to buy it. everyone would just wait for a sale and nothing would sell at retail. so to create "artificial" demand, they "cut" the set after a year. wait one year, then resell the set under a new number the following year. it's brilliant!
  13. the sale was originally to clear old stocks but i saw a few shops with the new summer sets like 6211, 6210 and 7706. kbtoys prices are a bit steeper than srp...but you may find a good bargain somewhere as each shop seems to price differently (the one in ny is selling 6211 for 109.99).
  14. haha, lego seems to be lacking in imagination. it's just like slave 1. one ship and lots of minifigs.
  15. you won, xwingyoda! finally! :-)
  16. that gundam model on brickshelf is for display only (nice to see, not so nice to touch). MB and LG have to make sets which can handle rough kid's play.
  17. i think it is safe to say his models are for display only. i cannot feasibly see how those "wheels" can rotate, seeing how they are made of bricks.
  18. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1902495 isn't this the "steering" mechanism?
  19. did you read? apparently mecha hub has gotten news that megabloks bought the license to make gundam sets. this is clearly a challenge to lego's exoforce line. crap...gonna be interesting to see how this turns out. http://www.mechahub.com/ read the news section of the link. it's the second from the top.
  20. i got a 7261 clone turbo tank for $66 (shipping incl'd). woopee doo!!!
  21. a little off topic, but i think batman may also suffer from oversized vehicles. i'm talking specifically about the batmobile and the batwing. way larger compared to the villian's vehicles. looking at the batcave it suffers similar fate as well with the batsled about 2-3 times larger than the penguin sub. my biggest gripe is with the batwing. way too big. way too ugly. i like sleek looking, agile, little fighter jet type thing. it should be no bigger than the joker copter. i think c3's remake looked a lot better.
  22. yeah, you're right. i didnt see the red knight before. that is an awesome depiction of a real samurai. great use of the mask. samurai helmets actually included masks that look like that. too bad it had to be customized.
  23. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1739519 i have cast my votes. too bad this mocer didnt submit or it would have won all 3 categories from me! *sad*
  24. where is this comic con event being held? if it is in the east coast and i have time during the weekend i will go there and see if i can grab a few.
  25. once you see your sets selling on shelftop you will want to get paid. it's only human...and the urge is stronger for those who hate their day jobs and wanted to retire earlier. if lego wanted to use afol designed sets, they can hold contests and the contestants sign waiver forms. that way, lego can sell the sets any how they want.
