Looks a nice little car, but it looks like they only did most of a job... But for E5.00, I suppose you can't complain too much

MOC: Just my 50ct for an Hogwarts Express Engine
Matt Dawson replied to Rumpelmuck's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The loco doesn't look quite right - I think it is because, like most GWR tender engines, it has a 'raised' footplate - i.e. it rises above the wheels. This image at wikipedia clearly shows Olton Hall - aka "Hogwarts Castle" - in full HP livery. For the cylinders - how about using the 1x1 brick with the technic hole connected with a cheese slope? It'll give the loco the typical GWR cylinder look. -
i'm suprised nobody's noticed the female fig in the second set...

I thought each day would link to the entry in this topic showing the entry. But each time the picture/link is clicked, it doesn't show the entry on that page - it goes to a random page...
-
For every day since the 1st, I have been looking at the calender, clicking the link, and no entry matches the page. Could these be errors?

in one of their [Enlighten] pirate range (http://www.yahobby.com/enlighten-building-blocks-corsair-navy-station-lego-compatible-p-86.html?currency=GBP), a lot of parts are direct clones of lego. That map, for example.

As far as I'm concerned (as are many brits), lego availability is extremely poor. Supermarkets, a TRU and Argos. All with (essentially) the same range. I wish Lego hadn't closed their birmingham store... BTW, and for those on here who say Milton Keynes is only an hour away... Milton Keynes is a pretty 'carp' [rearrange the a and r] city/town if you get my drift. The birmingham store was fresh, well stocked, had many staff, and undeniably clean. You could eat your dinner off the floor! And at least the price of a set went (more or less) to Lego themselves...

Click Here! (or http://www.eurobricks.com/sieg/cal/c09/ for those who think i'm trying to sell something). One small problemo... it's still reading 2008...
-
To me, the second one looks like it's the end of the day, (the light coming from an open door), with the driver having one last drink with the loco before going home.

Do you lubricate your PF locomotives or technic MOCs?
Matt Dawson replied to soc399's topic in LEGO Town
You could always use vegatable oil that's used for frying etc. - as it's made from natural stuff it won't affect anything, and I've used it for several years without trouble. smells nice too. -
As someone who has 'played' with lego for several years, I can quite honestly say that I wasn't attracted to their police, fire or ambulance sets (we're talking from pre- World City (S***y more like!) and the first true lego building I bought was, in fact, 2009's 7641 City Corner. It has everything - some action, playability, and those with generally every city set - which rescue, police chase or civilian can't be linked to them? Remember the phrase in the first Lego Island game - "We make lotsa Pizzas, we make lotsa money. Why? We're the only place to buy food in town!"

Here's my entry - 'A busy time for deliveries'. It shows the postman busy with letters (and recieving one of the policeman - probably his child writing to Santa). The van, meanwhile, is busy being loaded with presents - though how they're going to fit that wreath in (or on) I don't know... P.S. Apologies for the 'workbench' look, but I've dis-assembled my lego town for now, while I re-arrange my entire railway layout, which it rested on.
-
And here's the modified van (you can thank Milan for causing me to do this..): The mods included: > adding a roof bulge to represent the van having some sort of equipment - such as an extractor fan. > replacing the '1 x 4 plate in grey' above the rear doors for one in yellow > replacing the '2 x 4 plate in grey' 2 plates below the rear doors with one in yellow to continue the yellow. > replacing the plates in grey above the 'cab' with ones in yellow As you can see, the van is now a bar of yellow sandwiched between two layers of grey - and I'll admit it looks a lot better!
-
I think lego should remember that without civilian buildings lego city is just a load of emergency rescue buildings and vehicles...
-
EDIT: I misread it. Now I see you meant replace the 1x4 plate in grey with one in yellow. I'll see what I can do...

I've been busy perfecting these creations for a few months - and they're in a near-ready state, so here's some shots. All the parts (save for the crate load for the van, 2 minifig heads, cheese slopes and the girls hair piece) were available from the late 80's; but when available they have been replaced with modern equivelent parts so they don't have scratches, etc. The first, as usual, is a 'group shot': First, some detial on the van. The van was built about 1 & a 1/2 years ago. It has been constantly modified almost every month. It's last modifications were to replace the wheels with those from the last Daily Mirror give-away. It features opening side and ends doors. The sports car is probably the car with the most non-80's parts; 4 cheese slopes, minifig head and body. The front mudgaurd will be replaced with one the same as at the back of the car. This image shows it dis-assembled into it's main parts; as you can see, it's a very simple construction. The other car is probably the most unusual. The distinctive curved roof piece is from the Fabuland range from "Mr Crows Pick-up". It has had the gap inbetween the minifig and the and of the roof piece filled in to give it a "semi-van" look. The camera's cruel, isn't it? the poor girls got several marks on her head... and in it's dis-assembled state. Simples ;)

What Ever Happened to the Train Engine Shed?
Matt Dawson replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I just wish Lego would actually do a decent train range - one with lots of wagons, coaches, accessories & buildings. Something alone the Hornby range would be quite good - a decent range for both kiddies and adults... -
I'm waiting till we get some decent images of other sets...

I will definately come to the EB Event!
Matt Dawson replied to Ras 74's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
I'd love to go, but it seems like I'd have to spend a fortune - £300 for a hotel, plus another £250 for flights...and that's going on my OWN. Plus of course all the spending money...I'd be in the £750 region and that's probably not enough...now, if you'd held it at Windsor instead... I'm afraid i'll be missing this one. Shame there's so few AFOLs in Birmingham... -
I, personally, would love to see a Star Trek Lego franchise. I'm neither a true trekkie nor a 'star wars-ie' but star trek poses much more interest than star wars... for example (comparatively) save the tools/droids/control systems, how much sci fi stuff is there? less than Star trek - tricorders and 'rifles' for example. Space travel features in both, though that 'hyperdrive' system sounds rather like 'warp' - except warp drives rely on an actual core rather than just a large exhaust port... And yes, there is a scaling issue - but what about a 'modular' range which allows the user to buy seperate shuttle bays, bridges, medical bays, main engineering etc. rooms and combine them in different ways? If you want accurate scale models, we could have a mini /midi series which has all the essential models. And star trek features as much if not wider variety of alien races than SW. Star wars was only done (first!) becuase it's more aimed at kiddies.

Nice MOC! Though a few points (constructive criticism!): > There's no interior shot - so we can't tell what the interior is like. > I like the way the back is a mirror of the front > The rear looks rather plain - there's a lack of windows and a rear door.
-
I found that by fitting the control sticks in the figs hands then positioning these onto the holder for them it looked a lot better!
-
Yes. It's correctly known as a "Bugle"
-
Being someone who has never bought or owned a lego train set (Apart from the HP non-motorized one, if you count it) I would personally love Lego to bring back the Monorail - there's something that only monorails can achieve. But then again the city range is(n't) known for it's common sense...save for the few 'good' sets
-
It's the 2x2x2 slope, and it has got a tube in the bottom.
