Review 8191 Lavatraz
Callum replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Good review, WOEFUL colours! Looks like something a small child built randomly (Vending machine is neat though) -
What is the funniest things you have heard said about Lego?
Callum replied to Sisco's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The correct plural is Lego Bricks, or Lego Pieces, etc. However I tend to use the word Lego much like you use the word sheep or fish. "I have lots of Lego", does not sound bad in any way. Legos suggests pasta sauce to me though! -
Local K-Mart = No new stocks Local Toyworld = No new stock (due date is hazy, a collegue quoted me "Next month" but she was guessing. The rep said next week Local Warehouse = No new stock on the shelves, but new stock has been received.
-
Nein sorry, they show up when they show up generally. Most likely with a few days in betwix stores.
-
No new lines at Toyworld yet. They are due next week. The Warehouse does have some new stuff but it is not on the shelf yet... Most likely next week before they get around to it (currently liquidating old stock) Cheers Callum.
-
They are in the store, but most Warehouses utilize night fill - IE, they wont be put on the shelf until tonight - and even then most likely not as night fill is traditionally slack. My partner works at the Dunedin Central Warehouse and they are showing as in the store. There is a slight chance they are still on dispatch from DC, but we will see. Quite handy that both the places in NZ that get exclusive Lego sets, I have staff discounts!

Minifig Collectors: Show and Discuss Your Collection Here
Callum replied to gladiator's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Dont know how I missed this post! :) I am 99% solely a Minifigure collector, as I sell off the lego to save space! Unfortunately I do not yet have a way of displaying my figures but those baseplate's do look pretty good. (25$ each here in New Zealand though!) so each one of my figures is stored in an airtight resealable bag. (Pretty sure the local stationary store thinks I am selling drugs) - they are impossible to photograph - But I will get onto it! My aim is to have one of each variation also. Currently well on the way to achieving that goal, although obviously CITY is going to take a fair bit of time and is far less interesting - I have all but completed many other themes. Indiana Jones is 100% complete, Castle is mostly done and Pirates is missing just one figure, While Star Wars is around 90% complete. My fondness for the figures has taken a slight obsessive turn however and I have a small army of around 200 StormTroopers, and about 100 clones. :) -
Thanks for that, Yeah I have seen him but he looks like he was eaten by a Rancor...
-
I'm a collector and will obtain one some day to complete the set... Is he worth 30$ ? Hard to say as I would imagine he will be re-released in a set eventually - Seeing as the Mos Eisley Cantina is a rather prominent feature of the first (original) movie. Of course the new release when it happens will be a different print, but that will kill the original greedos price (Like it did the Ewoks) Just my 2c worth of pure educated speculation. PS. Is Greedo the only Minifigure with printed arms? Callum. PPS. I have a greedo head that I received in a bulk lot - it was attached to a Mega Bloks body! If anyone has a good condition Torso they want to flick off.... :)
-
Just a heads up - I have noticed some 2010 stuff showing up on Trademe... I have not noticed any sets in any stores however. Also, has anyone spoken to Huck to Flat recently? Cheers! Callum
-
I have one on order, but the rep is unsure if they are coming in. I would imagine they will get a few, I will let you know as soon as I know more :)
-
I will try and let people know as soon as I have information on when these should be in the stores... Seeing as I work at Toyworld I usually get the skinny a wee bit early - but I have not been doing as many hours as usual recently.

LEGO Collectible Minfigures Series 1 Poll
Callum replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Surely 13 should be "Skater"? Anyway. Ill be buying a few boxes of these! Kind of hoping these will be random parts too - raising the chance that they will be better quality figures. That and so I can have some spare parts to make zombie clown cheerleaders! -
It looks to be nuked from the entire website... Fortunately I got one when they first came out, but I did want one to open! :(
-
Looks like I may have to do some tests myself! I wonder if I should take some lego men to an artificial tanning Salon and some UV protection... I might officially own the worlds first lego Minifigure with tanlines! Callum.

I read your posts before starting this topic. I also have the 8880 with yellow wheels that went that way when sitting in the shade. To further that I have some Horses from the castle sets that did the same thing , but only the Head or Torso has done it, or half a torso down the seam. (so definately something weird in some batches of plastic) Lastly I have the space shuttle (technics) that has some bricks that have yellowed but not others. The one I still have MISB has shown no signs of yellowing even though the bags have air holes. Thanks for your reply :) keeping the blinds pulled is something I would rather avoid but if its the only option....
-
Mmm. I did contemplate this but working out what lights would be best to replicate the sun with was an issue (UV light for instance is not emitted from all sources, and in varying amounts from others) Also, the heat test suggests that it is the warmth of the sun that causes the bricks to discolour rather than the actual light. (Unless I am mistaken, UV is not produced by ovens!) So maybe I need a beer fridge! Cheers for your reply :) Callum

Hi all, I have searched far and wide for handy tips on this topic but generally I only find information on how to reverse the effects (with varying results) Heres what I plan on doing. Building a wood and glass display cabinet to display my minifigure collection (I have several thousand, so turning yellowish would be a heart breaker!) Now, I have access to UV protective archive glass.... would this solve the Yellowing / discolouring of Lego? does any one know for sure? (No guesses - my collection would be very upset!) As UV Protective glass has a darker hue, I would likely have to install lighting inside of the case. I would imagine LED lights would be the best way to do this, or Cold Cathode... any idea if these will cause any discolouration too? For a scale I are talking 3000+ Minifigures in a glass case (or two) This will NOT be in direct sunlight, however I dont live in a cave (any more). I have some minifigures that have lasted 20 years without discolouring but they were locked in a box, and that seems hardly fun. Ideally I would like the display to last me out and still show no yellowing if at all possible. If it is not possible the collection will ultimately remain in its box. Unloved... alone.... Cheers all for your help! Callum.

What is the funniest things you have heard said about Lego?
Callum replied to Sisco's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Me carrying 500$ worth of Lego home for MY collection after a big 50% off sale and a lady saying "Aw, some little boy is getting spoiled this christmas!" That little boy is 33 years old, lady! -
MISB - to open or not to open...
Callum replied to Mister Phes's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I have about 20 lego MISB sets in my cupboard that I have picked up over the last year or two. my partner often threatens to open my Skulls Eye Schooner if I dont obey her commands. Why do I keep them sealed? Because it is a rare treasure. One day it will most likely be opened by someone after I am gone (or destroyed in a natural disaster.) but I think it is pretty neat to preserve things like that for as long as we can. -
Just to confirm the new sets will be out in Mid January. That being Toy Story, Atlantis and Ben 10. No mention of Star Wars but I would assume they are coming too. EDIT: Prince of Persia is coming out mid January also.

Re: guy who recently sold the Jango and Boba Fett auction on trademe. I just recieved a purchase from him (40 minifigures, 50$ including a C3P0, Bib Fortuna and Lobot) and I also noticed I have Jango's and young Bobas head that were supposed to go with the other figures. Weird!
-
Jango is worth what people will pay. He goes for between 20 and 50 USD typically. If you have seen him for more, chances are he did not sell. Plus the jango in that auction appeared to have a few incorrect parts. So yep crazy! :)

The one that I clicked the buynow of 60$ at the same second CINNNAAAABERRRRRRRRRRRR put a bid on it... *shakes fist* Still, That price is just silly! I could have bought those items for a fraction of the cost... But I guess they call it "Tardme" for a reason.
