  1. Really cool, a true piece of art, I really like everything about it, with all those little details!!
  2. thanks for all the positive feedback so far, @taz: if you came up with an idea, I'd truely apriciate it, the biggest problem that I have is the rather crooked nature of the window and the yellow application around it @perfectionist: well, old brown would have been nice, however, I got most of the pieces from the log cabin set, which was a good value for so many brown pieces, and actually, if you look at this modelyou could even justify the two browns @admiral croissant: thanks for the suggestion, I already worked the idea in and increased the brown by one brick, it definetely looks better now
  3. Hi there, when I was a kid there was this TV show about James Cook and ever since, I've been hooked on ships, explorers etc. especially of the 18the century. So when I got out of my dark ages and discovered this forum, I really wanted to do one of Cook's ships, the best researched of course being the Endeavour. So here is what I came up with so far: here is a view of the kind of hinges I used for this project, thanks to Perfectionist for the idea I'm actually kinda stuck right now, as I'm wondering how to connect the sidewalls to the stern and include the window which you can see here I'd be glad If the experts could give me some advice on how to improve the whole thing, thanks a lot kabel UPDATE 3/31 overall view: this is how I plan to put in the window, of course not all of the bricks have the right color yet preliminary stern design, some ideas i've been playing around with the tan deck is coming along current shape of the bow (fortunately no headrails on the endeavour)
  4. A truely BEAUTIFUL creation, no other words to describe this ...
  5. i'm totally loving this one, very detailed, very lively scene, really great buildings!
  6. EVIL!!
  7. I don't know whether this question belongs here, but I'm asking it anyway: Does anyone know how many ships were build after these techniques? And are they gaining a following outside the EB community?
  8. man, I really love that brig best small hull ship I've seen so far!! Do you, by any chance, have pictures of it alone? BTW, whatever happenened to the idea of a small hull ship contest, does anyone know?
  9. Wow, this is really cool stuff ... I totally love the new/newly painted animals, and the best thing is, that I'll have the dough to buy all four of them, given the fact, that I'll not get into POTC. So hopefully TLC continues this approach to the castle theme and brings us even more civilian sets in 2012. After the total screw up during the last decade, this now brings Lego Castle back to where it belongs!!
  10. Cool stuff, I too find the Mexican really inspiring and am currently building a Southwest/Mexico moc. So this is extra inspiration!
  11. Wow, the blue really does it for me! I mean, I've been kinda skeptical before, but ever since you started adding the blue parts I've come to like your ship quite a lot. And the stern is definetely one of the best sterns I've seen so far, great work!!!
  12. first of all, thanks for the blogging, I feel honored ... @lgb: although I have a slight tendency towards blue, I'd much rather prefer to stay out of trouble and depcit the civilian aspects of the 18th century @te: well I guess a water to protect from scurvy would have been extremely valueable in those days and something worth getting a hold of by any means
  13. thanks for your comments so far, it really took me a while to get this thing done and i'm actually rather proud of what i learned during the process of building this landscape, however, what do you guys think it lacks or to put it in other words, what would have to be done differently in order to play in a higher league? @capt. stabbin: there are more pics in the brickshelf folder
  14. All right, so here's the final pictures. Maybe a friendly mod can remove the "teaser" from the title, thanks. Anyway, so here is Stinemouth: Stinemouth is a peacefull coastal village at the mouth of the "Stine" river, and until recently there wasn't much going on here. However, legend has it, that the water form the village's well contains the world's best drinking water, as it is said to cure and protect from scurvy and other typical sailors' deseases the locals of course know, that this is nonesense and take things easy they surly know that mayor Johnson intruduced this rumor in order to get more trade going in their town. And so far this has worked out. Red coat ships from all over the region sail into the small harbour in order to get this misterious stuff. However, as the legend spread across the borders, others now demand their share of this precious water too. Will the killing of the red coat soldier drive peaceful Stinemouth into war, or will they be able to stay out of this silly rivalry between the two dominant factions? more pics on brickshelf
  15. 188A after fooling around for several month learning how to create better mocs than i did previously, my little 18th century village moc "Stinemouth" is nearing completion. I'm waiting for a final PaB order, so that I can finally finish that thing. But anyway, here's a littel teaser for you:
  16. the only real ship they used in the movies was the interceptor a.k.a. lady washington of prot angeles, w.a., a replica of one of the first ships to hit the pacific northwest, the rest are just models, as far as i'm informed
  17. oh man, this is really bad news for any lover of the real lego pirates
  18. right on dude, this is really cool! what's girlfriend think of this?
  19. fleshy pirates? - never, I guess I will simply have to boycott the line and wait until they come up with yellow pirates again. I simply cannot see why I should pay more just because it has a disney license. I mean the pirates have been there since 1989 - and the sets were just right. Now we are going to get the same sets with fleshy heads but have to pay more just because it's POTC? Honestly, this doesn't make any sense at all and I feel really betrayed by Lego. So once again, no fleshy pirates for me, and not because I don't like them but because out of sheer principle!
  20. First off all, thanks for the review, I'm now realy itching to get this set, although it's more for the parts. Where else do you get that many tan and brown pieces in a single set? I have some questions though: do these hinges come in brown, are they plates or brick hinges, and does anyone know the official central european price for this?
  21. this set is fantastic especially since they recently sold it as cheap as € 1,35 here in Germany. So I got all those pigs without having to buy yet another tractor. Now they are selling it at € 1,50 at Mueller's but that's still an incredible price, given that some people are trying to sell the pigs for € 5,00 on ebay.
  22. Man, this really raises the bar quiet high! How is anyone ever to become a moc expert if your mocs set such hight standards? I'm lovin' it and it totally inspires me to go on with my own projects ...
  23. kabel

    Kamenice Town

so where are the concrete blocks from the era of communism? just, kidding, it's ablsolutely flawless, very nice design, and i'm a bit jealous, my wife would never allow me to "waste" so much space on lego ...
  24. while scrutenizing the web for pictures of typcial Baltic Sea towns I came across this picture of an old harbour crane, maybe that's something else to use as a source of inspiration :
  25. First of all, nice little ship. Just the kind of thing I'm planning to build. I hope you don't me gathering inspiration ... Anyways, what I was wondering is, whether you used the new kind of hinges in order to get the thumblehome tilted? I tried that myself, but didn't come up with the same angle as with the old hinges. From your pictures I can't really tell how you did this. So which, hinges did you use and how did you appyl them to get the correct angle?
