I certainly am glad you finally changed those waves, it looks much more natural like this!! I also like the great usage of the brown palisade, that's Avalonia for me!
-
oh man, this is really so cool, all those details I wouldn't possibly think of. Yet nothing so complicated that it seems like a magical kinda built. You're definetely building in a league most of us dream of!!

Thanks man, and I'm still waiting for your cog to get its final touch!!

Kaliphlin Embassador Nohr Mahn's Embassy in Mitgardia
kabel replied to Maxim I's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really have to say, that give the limited amount of bricks you still had available you did a pretty good job, and what I really like is how you transitioned to Stoneroda by having your roof face the street and not the gable. Cool, I like it, if Stoneroda 1450 was still intact, I'd integrate it, but I took most of it aparte as I'm moving toward Stoneroda 1640 .. -

My Kontor in Kaliphlin: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=66209 -
The Mitgardian Leage is gaining power! Not only does it control most of the trade on the northern seas, but in recent years, Mitgardians have purchased real estate in foreign territories and set up their trading posts there. One of them can be found in Mpya Stedor, Kaliphlin. In the old days the property near the harbor used to be the pallace and garden of a Kaliphlin noble man. However, due to his spending habbit he went bankrupt and had to sell his precious little haven to the Mitgardian league, to which he was owing. Profit oriented (and ignorant of foreign architecture) as they are, the Mitgardians placed a typical warehouse into the middle of the park leaving only little green for the enjoyment of the kontor's inhabitants. The Mitgardian cog Lady Emma has just arrived in the harbor and is going to take back the riches aquired by the thrifty Mitgardian traders. Aerial of the harbor + trade mission The usual problems with the local fish merchant ... Don't crash into my fruit stand, stupid! The local pasha's son takes his falcon out for a ride A remaing orange tree in the embassy's courtyard Mitgardian accountant at work Ain't nothing better than sealing a deal with a nice shisha More pics on Brickshelf when public

@DM: thanks man, it really took all the brown and dark sand tiles I had too achieve the woodish look, I'm glad you like it @Hersbrucker: Cogs usually had closed decks, and I based this ship quite a good deal on the Bremen Cog of 1380 @TR: Well, you're the one who actually inspired me to build a cog in the first place! So go ahead and borrow, If you wanne make it look like a cog though, you have to make sure that the stem is really straight: And here is how I achieved it: @roughang: thanks. The cool thing about the prefab hulls is that they have this clinker planked kinda look. Pretty odd for pirate ships but just right for Cogs. BTW, the sail is a piece of cotton stained in a cup of coffee the credits for this go to evil willy of the pirates forum, where you can find some nice sail making tutorials!

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
kabel replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
holy crap, this is so great!! Not really a super complicated build but looking totally awesome. I wonder though, what it would look like if the walls were more red bricks instead of white. I guess I have to give that a shot myself ... -

My contributionto the seafare mini challange. -
Over the last years the Mitgardian League has started to become the leading organization in trading the oceans. The workhorse ship conducting all this trade is the cog, a type of ship developed along the long and cold coast of Mitgardia. One of those cogs is the Lady Emma, a 150 ton trader travelling along the western shores. She may look somewhat chunky and not very agressive, but she's a reliable craft and well protected by some Mitgardian crossbow men. Everybody sing: Rule Mitgardia, Mitgardia rules the Seas!! more pics on Brickshelf when public

The Avalonian and Mitgardian style blend really well into each other, somehow this makes natural allies for the wars to come ...

wow, this is a truely remarkable piece of lego art. What I like most is this beautiful combination of brown, black and dark grey, truely a magnificent moc!!

Deares Jarl, my trademission of the Mitgardian league is still under construction, and so is my minichallange entry, which WIP pics you may have overlooked -
Yeah, brighten up those damned lands of Nocturnus, curse all them creepy villains that try to spoil Historica with their arsenic breath! I really like the story even more than the build, which itself is pretty cool, especially the underwater construction got me smiling. But dude, the story is what it really makes it awesome!!

Oh man, "Heroes of Might and Magic" turned LEGO, I love it! (always hated all the Underlords though)

hm, what is it about all these Mitgardian embassies in Kaliphlin, mine is going to be there too , working on the interiour of the buildings right now ... @rolli: Stoneroda (modeled after my hometown Wernigerode/Harz) would be honored to host your embassy! -
getting better and better!! How many more chapters are you going to add?
-
Now this is what I expected Nocturnus always to look like and I really love it. It really has this swampy feel of Lousiana or places like this. It's quite a shame that people haven't commented on this, but somehow only the great builders like derfel, taz, z etc. here get a lot of feedback. I'm not being jealous or anything here, but I guess builders that are not the big masters yet sometimes also need feedback in order to improve their skills! So once again, nice MOC, great atmoshere, great looking swamp. What it still misses though are the one or the other liana here and there, and maybe one or two more trees.

As always I'm left with a dropped jaw when I see your Lego creations. I really like how you captured the winter landscape and put your typical house in it. Great job!!
-
@dg: thanks man, I really apreciate your work as well. I thought about tools too, just ran out of sprace though. Too bad that you as a Swede are in the wrong Guild @ecclesiastes: I was actually inspired by your Andeylien City moc and transferred it to a fjord landscape. BTW, it would be really cool if you finished your cog as well!!
-
Thank you guys for commenting on this. I'm glad at least some people here like it. I'm sure war ships of that period looked totally different, but I guess they would be more likely to be found in the Mediterranean. Mitgardia in my imagination encompasses more of a northern, and therefore North German/Scandinavian/Baltic region. In other words: something really close to the Hanseatic league, which in our Guild time (ca.1450) was very strong. And that special Hanseatic feel (colorful half timber structures, red bricks, trade cogs, fjords etc.) is what I'm trying to get across in my mocs. Do you think that this approach towards a more realistic depiction doens't fit Historica? It'd be cool if more people could share their ideas on that question with me. PS: What do you think would look better, the prefab mast, or a costum one made of round 2x2s?
-
I really like this and it once again transports the wintery feel of Mitgardia so well.
-
I was sure I knew this layout from somewhere, and right, the guy who building the castle in Arkansas is the same guy like in France. Some similar structures, techniques and layout. So what I'm trying to say here, is that you did such an excellent job on your moc that it mirrors reality quite well. I love it. What I do not like is this Avalonian bragging about you guys being the first ones with a stone quarry, as there is one in Mitgardian Stoneroda too:
-
What I found is that cogs with battlement are b.s. I'm more or less trying to depict the cog of Bremen, one of the very view cogs they actually found. articles: 1 (english) 2 (german, but better pics) as for the cliff, well fjord walls are sometimes really straight, and sometimes layers of different kinds of rocks are folded upright, but I guess in the picture it may look a little odd

I like it, it looks really hillarious. Although the Kraken sorta looks like an exploding hemet depot to me Still, it's a really great idea!!
