Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread
kabel replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yeah, GOH is definetely the greatest thing that has happened on EB to this date. I too, originally started to moc in the Pirate realm, but didn't really get that far. With Mayday's great landscape and the beginning of GOH I have started a building frenzy that I hope will last for a little while. So I'm really glad we have this thing going. I actually joined Mitgardia, as I am very fascnianted with the old Hanseatic port cities that can be found around the North- and Baltic Sea. Mitgardia seemed to be the right place to moc in this style! I do however admit, that the difference between Mitgardia and Avalonia can't be really that big in comparison to the other guilds. -
Ecclesiastes asked me to build something bigger using my red plate technique, so I did ... Right in the very Center of Mitgardia's mighty city of Valhol sits the old Thinghall, one of the earliest stonebuildings in Mitgardia. It was built so that tribe matters could be discussed inside. However, the wisdom of the founding fathers had it that the Thinghall was not to have any doors, so that discussions wouldn't last for too long. Sometimes cold and strong winds blow through the old walls, making sessions quick and effective: Whereas all the other people of Historica still obey to their respective dictatorial leaders, Mitgardians have a Parliament (Thing) to discuss the things that concern everybody. Sometimes though, MPs of the northern regions, due to an infusion of Beserk blood, loose their temper and start taking things in their own hands: Guards are always on a standby though, so that the Thing sessions remain, if not peacefull, at least without bloodshed: As most of the MPs are traders who have become fairly rich in recent years, several have started to build new, rather representative houses around the Thinghall. Other Senators are doing the same, I mean have their workers doing the same: Yet, the old pub remains an offense to all the dignified Senators, as it attrackts a crowd made up of construction workers and sailors who seem not to know how to behave in puplic: overall shot of the moc: More pics on Brickshelf when public

@SOT: I totally understand what you're saying and did not want to come across obnoxious, just wanted to say that I'm rather excited ... Great Work everyone, once again we did pretty good, and congrats to Ecclesiastes for once again building such a great moc! -

Alright, by now Monday is over, even on the last remote island somewhere out there in the mighty Pacific. Man, you guys really keep things exciting ... -
Oh man, I really wonder where you get all these great ideas for new techniques. It seems you're always ten steps ahead of most of us!! I mean it's not like your glueing the pieces (except fot the whip once ) but it often enough sure looks like it. However, at a second glance it shows that things are doable, just never tought of before. All this said, I think you have once again totally outdone yourself, awesome creation!!

woho, Gryphius, that's quite a tough one to be cited here Personally, I'm seeing it more like the Bhudist monks who work on their sand mandalas for weeks and then take a broom to wipe them away ... -

@CB: I'm looking forward to your ships and am quite excited about what your cog will look like in comparison to mine! It's great to see other pirate builders attemting this era of seafare. Great idea to use ANNO as a source of inspiration! @DC: sounds exciting! -
great stuff here, I also like the story and the build. So simple yet such a great effect! I also think that it's really cool how this moc connects to your embassy moc!
-
Awesome Moc there, I'm especially fond of this star design. And what amazes me most about it is that it shows how almost every angle is possible with Lego.
-
Once again a true master piece from you de Gothia. Not a thing about this moc that I would not love instantly!

Mighty Jarl, thank you ever so much for appointing me Vice-Admiral, I'm sure I shall not dissapoint you in this position! @alekso: Plenty of cities in Mitgardia, it's not all snow, ice and spruces up here. We even have agriculture around our mighty capital of Valholl! Personally I think of Mitgardia as everything around the Baltic Sea in real live, but I guess that's just me. -
thank you guys for the positive feed back, I'm glad so many people like my Kontor! @dd: the chicken is my favourite Lego animal ever!! and there is more to come concerning the red plates ... @rogueang: I came up whith the green and yellow when I ran out of white, I gues I should run out of the bricks needed more often @dg+gabe: a ship and a harbor had to be in there, as pirates is still my favourite topic!

if I were a Kaliphlin, I'd simply always blame it on Nocturnus, you know, the dark side of the power ... -
I'm glad you finally got around to finishing your fleet. I really like it!
-
Although the golden domes seem somewhat out of place in the snow I still like the building very much. Great job on fusing the Kaliphlin and the Mitgardian style!
-
Great Moc man. Your style is very unique and I really like how you use the cheese slopes in order to build roofs. Awesome work!
-
well, my shisha is bigger! but your Moc is defenitely a truely great one! And what I really like is your story around it. This is what really brings Mocs to life!
-
@Khorne: Yeah, I know what you mean, living in an medieval invironment is definetely a great source of inspiration. Whenever I run around town an find a cool house I start to think about how to do it in Lego. And yes, you're right, the Kontor should be bigger, but as I wanted the cog to be in this moc, I had to cut the houses. @CM: hehe, you're pretty right. The Shisha was one of the first things I thought about after deciding to build in Kaliphlin. @Ecclesiastes: Thanks a lot, I finally realized that mocs are all about putting the minifigs into action.

Dearest Jarl, one humble question, how exactly would you define your micro scale? Are microfigs the reference or do you mean even smaller? @Rio: Rule Mitgardia, Mitgardia rules the Seas. Mitgardians never, never, never shall be slaves!! -
Wow, is pretty much all I can say here, as this building is absolutely superb!! So many nice details and of course the dining hall, which almost invites one to participate in the feast. I'm really a big fan of these almost photo-realistic kind of mocs. And of course green as a roof color is really cool too!
-
Thank you guys for the nice words, it's been fun to build this and also explore some techniques used by other builders, e.g. the halfround tower and stuff, fully tiled courtyards and stuff like this. Being in Kaliphlin was great but now I'm out of white bricks @MikeyB: yeah, business in the middle eastern world and shisha seem to belong together, at least this was the case in Marocco which I once traveled. @DaMaximus: I'm glad you like it and I'm really looking forward seeing the entire city once its done @Khorne: It's so cool that you guys from Flanders like this and recongnize the style as of course I was also inspired by the Hanseatic Kontor of Brugge!
