LEGO Fan Weekend at Skaerbaek 2012
gerkenz replied to Henning M.'s topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
4 month later! Remember to visit the Fan Weekend in Denmark. Hope to meet you there. My "Gluecksburger Castle" will be displayed, too. Fan Weekend Page -
Great. It's in stock in Germany. I placed my order. It comes with a free Zombie-Car.

I really like the newer "realistic" colours like dark red, dark green, tan, orange, dark orange etc... and would like to see more standard house building parts in these colours. We do have a growing varity of tiles and arches but some colours are still hard to use because of missing parts. my most wanted part is Part 2339 - Brick, Arch 1 x 5 x 4 in "Medium Dark Flesh" because of the very cool 1x2 masonry brick existing in that colour. I Hope this part will be availlabe soon in my favorite colour. :-)
-
The bricked wall looks very good. I've got some of theses here for the rebuild of the "Nordertor Flensburg" allready. I love these bricks. I will use them in my next castle moc. I really like the use of plates for a "studded roof", first I thought...hmm studless will be more realistic for roofs, but no! with studs it looks more like a real one! :-)

Now on Display in Kiel, Germany! They say during the days "Kieler Woche" about 2-3 Million people will walk through the exibition Another castle modell is on display - my castle look a little small but the good thing is the visitors are able to compare the "real" one with my MOC. Castle Gluecksburg in Kiel

Wow. Very coold design and ideas! And PERFECT color combinations!

Hi, the castle is on it's way to an Exhibition in Kiel. "Ausstellung: Traditionen - 130 Jahre Kieler Woche und 425 Jahre Leben auf Schloss Glücksburg" Kiel Holstentörn Passage If you see it there, please make a photo!

Hmm... I don't think so. After fixing the 3rd wheel there is much space inside R2 for an NXT. I checked the size of motors and would say a PF M size would be perfect but R2 is kind of heavy and maybe needs the PF XL motor instead. The NXT motors seemed to be very big, too. We have to find a way to motorize R2 without giving him a complete other look. I would try 2 motors in each leg and a "free" wheel in the 3rd.

I searched some time to get the right bricks to attach roofs without the "brick-look" of the normal roof slopes. I used "Slope 53 3 x 1 x 3 1/3 with Studs on Slope" part no: 6044. And now I'm the headline of the local newsletter! picture of the castle and myself was printed thousand times and everyone in the north of Germany could see this article. online article ( German ): LEGO castle - MoinMoin.de And best of it: The LEGO castle will be exposed inside the real caste in Gluecksburg - Great!

Oh I forgot to mention some "color fading" of white and dark blue parts. I mean for example there a some slightly colour differences of white bricks, some are a very very little bluish and some not. Some of the dark blue 1x1 are a very little "pale" ( hope thats the right word ). I saw that on bricks from bricklink before but I thought that's because the bricks had different production years. It's bad in any way, the droid looks very cool! - just wanted to mention.
-
Yes! that was my first thought, too. A black one ( don't know the number ) would be nice, too. Edit: R2-Q5 is the black one. And a C3-PO in scale would be great! BTW: I didn't got the new brick separator. I think it's just an example.

I saw the promotion video on youtube and I was a little amused about the "great" features R2-D2 have, but after building ( 3h 18 minutes of fun! ) I really think this set was made with a lot of thinking and everything looks perfect! Ok, the colourfull inside is not perfect but helps children to build it. I love the size and the clean design. A lot of mocs should be done: - R/C ( power functions ) - other movements like head rotation ( power functions ) - Light bricks - Sound brick ( thanks for that idea! I thought about programming a microcontroller wiht sound and lights ) and of course: - other star wars droids buy using the R2-D2 base!

Hi, I didn't find a topic about stats how long LEGO is selling sets. Sure, most popular sets will last longer but there must be some stats about how long sets will be sold at S@H usually. Is 3 years some kind of magic timeslot for a product? Maybe there is a page out there which provides these information? Does themes like castle, pirates, technic and UCS lasts longer than friends, city in the official LEGO shops?

Modular Starfighter [LDD MOC]
gerkenz replied to vynsane's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, I'm more into castle stuff but love star wars, too. I do like the classic space sets and did build some blacktron sets but nothing else so far. Now I see this very cool modular idea and I'm infected! Great! you have to enter your designs in cuusoo if you don't have it there already. UPDATED: I just have a problem with missing parts on export as .ldr file. Importing it in Digital Designer or another program will show missing parts. ldr imported I'm using the newest version of Digital Designer ( updated parts online ) UPDATED2: ah ok, I need an updated ldraw.xml file for LDD. I found one at: LDD ldraw.xml file for export to .ldr -
3D Kingdoms Knight
gerkenz replied to gerkenz's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks! As it was one of my first finished modells I think it took some evenings over a periode of about 8 weeks. Now I think I would need a weekend to create it and some hours for the prints, hopefully -
3D Kingdoms Knight
gerkenz replied to gerkenz's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for your comments. to modell a minifig it's for me kind of impossible to meassure the figure by hand. I've googled some references and used the values from both to get the best fit: Minifig Measurements 1 Minifig Measurements 2 I modified the pictures a little to use them as blueprints in Cheetah 3D. And then creating spheres and cubes or just planes to start modeling. A lot of time went into creating a most perfect shape. All rounded edges where tricky but that was my first complete modell, so I learned a lot. ;-) Prints: I took pictures of a prints ( torso, shield, legs and hips ) and bumped up the threshold so only the black lines appear. I've used the "vectorisating" feature of inkscape to convert it in vectors. After that I created vector forms for each color area and filled it with the corresponding color. After moving the black lines to the to layer the prints looks like painted. :-) The advantage is to have a print which can be scaled without quality lost, but for the render I exported them to about 500x500 pixel png's ( max. 196 KB ) @palathadric: the plume has the same material the figure have, so it's just the angle. :-) -
Hi, I made a LEGO knight from scratch with cheetah 3D some time ago, hope you like it. :-) Without any imported parts, just wanted to get used to the functions of the software. Cheetah 3D gallery: More info on my page: Knight - gerkens.org

Space Marine Animation Test
gerkenz replied to hjmediastudios's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'm trying Blender right now, did some modelling before, but sticked to cheetah 3D. DAZ looks very clean and there are lots of plugins for it. Now it's free , too but still needs addons which are not free and it's a complete different userinterface than blender, max or something similar. The functions of blender are really great and it's free and there are so much howtos and tutorials out there...amazing.:-) -
Space Marine Animation Test
gerkenz replied to hjmediastudios's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, I made a LEGO Knight with Cheetah 3D ( post will follow these days ) and searched around the web for some 3D animated LEGO minifigs and found yours. Very cool! congrats for your very good design. I've checked out Cuusoo again and found a lot of crazy and very well desined ideas! I 'm testing DAZ Studio 4, Maya and Blender right now to figure out which will be the best software for minifig animation. It's not easy to decice. I'll test some animation with blender the next weeks. Thanks for your space marine inspiration. -
wow, one of the best ship-mocs ever! I like the interior and the outside colors very much. Congrats.

Thanks for your very nice replies! 4 years building time were interrrupted by a lot of things in my life, but I needed a lot time to think about how to build it without messing it up and don't use to much bricks. As you can see on the early post on my page I started with a lot bigger scale, but that ended soon because of the needed parts. . After I finished the design of the windows I aligned the scale to it and started building the first tower. After that I thought about the roof which should look very flat ( normal roof bricks dind't work out very well ). I'm really thankfull for your comments. Only LEGO fans can imagine the work which has to be done to build a MOC like that. see ya....maybe in Denmark this year.
-
Thanks, . The next one will be more middle age style with drawbridge and non reality castle. Here is a foto I took from the castle ( backside ) just to show the real one. I did a lot of measurement around the castle and inside to map the scale.
