  1. I think the boxy-ness (is that even a word ) of the trailing truck should solve itself once the coverparts are on it. Can't put them there right now, still missing the bars for it. As for the cylindres, I was just going thru my bricks and it seems I've forgot to order the parts for those, lol. So I'll have to make another order.
  2. been working the better part of a night on her and this is where I stand now: WIP Red Devil by Barduck12, on Flickr Still needs a lot of work (and some bricks that are still on the way) but she's coming along nicely. Once I've finished the first build I can look in to which parts I can improve on. Any suggestion on that part are more than welcome btw
  3. while waiting on the rest of the bricks (still got 5 deliveries) I've made a test run to see if everything would check out, like abiliy to take switches and curves. here's a link to the vid of that test run: http://www.flickr.co...N07/9421639689/
  4. reciever will go inside the tender with the battery. Next bricks should arrive tomorrow so I'll be able to build a bit more, yet not finish her because I have still a lot of bricks missing that are on their way
  5. they made the tender that small so the loco and tender would fit on the turntables
  6. Red Devil WIP by Barduck12, on Flickr
  7. finally done with the MLCad of this and I've started building. I'll try and post a picture of progress so far, while waiting on bricks to arrive
  8. Though I'm more in to steamers I really like the design and color choice of this one. Great work, specialy for a first MoC. Personally though, I would have made it 8 wide, adding another 8-12 studs of length to each car. This would make adding even more seats possible too.
  9. I believe this site will have the answer you are looking for: http://www.philohome...s/motorcomp.htm Quickly going thru it I would say the L motor isn'nt as powerfull as 2 M motors, you'd need an XL one to have same performance (actually, even better). Offcourse, this engine runs slower than the M ones so you'd have to adapt the gearing. And I don't even want to think about the changes you have to do to the train to get the XL motor in it (I've struggled quite a bit on the Allegheny with that change and she has a 10 studs wide boiler)
  10. Mind if I use the design of the tender trucks for my Red Devil? At first glance they seem to be just what I need to make that part of the WIP look better.
  11. Size comparison by Barduck12, on Flickr From front to back: Emerald Night, Virginian 2-8-8-8-4, Big Boy 4-8-8-4, Allegheny 2-6-6-6 Also made 2 video's of her running on a small piece of track, here's the link of her taking switches: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91060327@N07/9219869461/
  12. for battery life, as in having enough power the whole 9 yards (well, 42km in fact) they could just build some extra cars that are pulled by the train, each having, let's say 2 battery packs, all connected in series. This extents how much power they hold extremely, thus giving a longer power when needed.
  13. I've started designing my next train and I would be nice to get some feedback on it. Done a "quick and dirty" design in LDD, just to get the basic look, shape and what not but there's surely room for improvement. Based it on the pictures I found on the net, done the boiler in 7 wide and the cabin in 8. I basicly went for this one as I allready have 3 large black steamers and wanted something in a different color, which, I hope, hass'nt been done yet (google isn'nt giving me any hits on a lego version of it, MOC or otherwise anyway). Here's a snapshot from LDD, thoughts? 4-8-4 red devil concept Left view by Barduck12, on Flickr
  14. movie of her running will have to wait, I've took her apart and am rebuilding her with 2 XL PF engines instead of 4 medium PF ones. The boiler is allready nearly finished but I have to put the latest changes on it in MLCad before I continue.
  15. might just be me but it looks better with the stripes continueing on the doors
  16. I'm not to familiar with measurements in inches, really hate doing the maths for those. But thx for clearing that up, if I''m not mistaking that's around 1.6m in height then. So yeah, would be a rather smal human
  17. she is about 6 studs longer than your version, mostly because of the cylinders (those are 4 studs wide compared to your 3 stud wide version, done that on purpose to add the 2 round 2x2 plates else the bar would bump against them). With the drive trains done I needed to make her longer in order to keep to the same scale. I don't remember if you have a picture of the real one where you can see just how high the wheels are compared to a human but on most steamers those wheels are huge, standing higher than an average man. And since lego wheels aren't that high, I felt I needed to compensate for that aswell. Also, the added 6 studs gave me extra room for extra details which was welcome. I'll be posting a video of her running curves sometime this week on Flickr, then you'll see how she runs. And btw, finally you take a look at her Sava, I had mailed you in Flickr to show her to you but you never responded.
  18. I'll try to this week, though the picture quality won't be this great. My wife's sister took these with her way to expensive camera, which I'm happy for she did, but since she moved to Australia this sunday I can't get a hold of it anymore.
  19. there's 4 medium PF motors in the boiler and yes, she does take curves and switches but she does need a lot of space at the sides as the cabin has a massive overhang.
  20. Ever since I saw Sava's version of the Allegheny I've been wanting to build one my self. Only problem was that I do not own any 9V tracks so I would have to go with PF-engines, mounted inside the boiler. I first created a version of it using LDD, but since that program is somewhat limited I couldn't make a decent enough version of it. So I learned to work with MLCad and after some try and errors I came up with something that should work and started ordering parts. Now, after more than 3 months of designing, ordering parts and assembly, she's finished. So here she is, in all her glory: Allegheny 2-6-6-6 by Barduck12, on Flickr Those off you who have seen her in Sava's version will be able to see the resemblence but also the things I did different (as in more details on top, extra tubing, other cilynders, etc etc). So it's more then just a straight copy of the fine work Sava put in to her, I took it a level further, hoping to do her honor.
  21. Hey there, I'm Hans, age 40 and I build LEGO trains (almost sounds like the introduction line one would say at an AA meeting, lol). I've been playing with LEGO from when I was still a kid (around 8ish) and now that my son is getting a bit older (he's that age now) I've got him in it. Donate all my bricks to him and he enjoys it, but he's far from being as techincal as I used to be (granted, kids these days have to many things they can play with, we only had LEGO in our days if you wanted to build things yourself). He really loves watching trains roll by so I started making some for him. I'll be posting my latest creation in the dedicated forum later on.
